Bed Bugs Terrorizing New York City, Scaring Away Tourists!

And it's keeping the tourists away!
The holiday season is vastly approaching and that's a big time of year for Manhattan. People come from around the world to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and skate in Central Park.
However, this year might not bring so many happy travelers as the threat of bed bugs has caused many to reconsider their plans. Many folks are afraid of the widespread epidemic throughout the city and have canceled hotel reservations and concert tickets just to avoid being bitten.
Sources have confirmed that the city's tourism agency, NYC & Company, has only had "nominal" cancellations thus far, but the agency is still taking the situation "very seriously."
Mayor Bloomberg added: "Hopefully, these things come and go, and this will go quickly."
You better hope so!

Do you think Charlie Sheen is responsible??????
A bit of over-reporting on your part, Mario, but a grain of truth to it. I've heard Europe has had to learn to live with the disgusting critters for ages.
They're very hard to eradicate once infested. The hotels better put something up on their websites advertising that they're bug free!
Oh please, beg bugs are all over the country. It is just getting reported more in NYC. AND TAKEN CARE OF. I think the store was bloomingdales, not completely sure, but, I saw a News Headline, the tickertape thing going across the bottom of the screen of the tv: Bedbug found at BLOOMINGDALES YESTERDAY AFTERNOON DURING LUNCH TIME RUSH. COMPLETE SEARCH DONE AND 1 (ONE) BEDBUG WAS REMOVED FROM THE STORE. ***** REPEAT***** BEDBUG INVASION AT BLOOMINGDALES FLAGSHIP STORE ON 3RD AVE. ONE BEDBUG REMOVED FROM THE 5 FLOOR DEPT STORE. NEWS TO FOLLOW********* I am not kidding, like I said, I forgot what dept. store it was, but it was one of the flagship dept. stores in Manhatten of on of the big well known ones, Bloomies, comes to mind. BUT, it seems that the city is TAKING IT SERIOUSLY. Nike closed down their flagship store, another 4 or 5 store store due to bedbugs. and PLEASE, IF THEY ARE IN NEW YORK, AND WE HAVE WEATHER OF 100 IN JULY AND WE ARE DOWN TO 60,70 NOW, other places are having the trouble too. THEY ARE JUST NOT TELLING YOU.
Now, are any of you getting red marks, bites after you have gone to bed at night????? and they are not mosquito bites? getting bites at the movies? bedbugs are small and they seem to bite in clusters, so, if you got a lot of small reddish bits in a line, group, start checking. If you are travelling anywhere, you can always buy a sleep sack. It is something like a sleeping bag, but it is made out of linens and some have the pillow right attached, so that none of your body touches the hotel bed, only the sleep sack.
How is this 'celebrity news' my good man?
Bed bugs are like hitchhikers there adventurious and want to travel the world…..hence why they're showing up everywhere. Gives me the heebie jeebies. Hmm maybe someone can invent a zipper suit to where in bed when you travel!
"Vastly" approaching? Jeez.
I saw on Verminators the way to end them. Seal up the infected area. Expose it to 140 degrees for a few hours. They heat kills them. So it can be done.
@Iloverickymartin - re: …Charlie being responsible… LOL!
well N.Y is surrounded by trash
i believe i read the same article as you Perez and it had the complete opposite headline. Bed bugs aren't keeping anyone away from the city, and any hotel cancellations are no higher than other years. Tourism was actually up from the past few years. Check facts please….
please dont come to LA you nasty NYCers we dont want your bugs
Well, we are the ones that let them into our country aren't we. Dot heads and towel heads are the dirty piggy ones that brought them in suitcases and duffle bags by the thousands. They live like a bunch of pigs. Get rid of them and we get rid of the bug problems.
Oh joy. I leave for NYC in a week and a half to run the marathon.
Re: buggadaboo – Many hotels allow pets, who are unwitting carriers; hotel hygiene isn't perfection as perfection is hard to get at those wages. Oh, and bedbugs don't differentiate between race or what kind of headgear a person's sporting. New York campaigns for tourists world wide, but the infection could just as soon come from somewhere in America.
