big love to end after upcoming season

Time to say goodbye to Big Love…almost!

After the upcoming 5th season of Big Love, which premieres on January 16, we'll have to find another show about polygamy!

…Guess there's always Sister Wives assuming the entire cast doesn't go to jail.

Here's what President of HBO Programming Michael Lombardo had to say about the end of Big Love, via press release:

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work with series creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer on this unique and provocative series, and I’m happy that they will be able to bring the story to its close the way they always envisioned. We look forward with great anticipation to collaborating with Mark and Will on their next venture.”

And here's a statement from Big Love creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer:

“When we created Big Love in 2002, we had a strong conception of the journey the Henrickson family would make over the course of the series, of the story we had to tell. While we were in the writers’ room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story. Big Love has been our all-consuming labor of love for the past eight years. We are very grateful for HBO’s continuing support and for the collaborative effort of our partners at Playtone, our producers, our fine cast and our fellow craftsmen and crew for making this show the exceptional and joyful experience that it’s been. This coming January, we look forward to presenting our audience with the most vibrant and satisfying final season of a television series that we can produce.”

As for Exec Producer Gary Goetzman, he adds:

Big Love has been a truly rewarding experience in every way for Tom Hanks and me. We’ve been so fortunate to have had such a tremendous cast over the five seasons, and we’ve never been less than amazed with their brilliance and willingness to take risks. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our partnership with Will and Mark and have always been blown away by their storytelling abilities. We believe this final season of Big Love will be the best ever.”

Will U miss Big Love when it's gone?

Very Well Written show… worthy of a COOL ending

I will miss it. I've watched the show since the first season. It has always been very well written and the actors are terrific. Looking forward to January 16th.

Yes I do think I will miss it. This season wasn't really as good as usual, but I did enjoy Sissy Spacek on it. It will be interesting to see if Nicky's brother actually comes out or if the whole BS religion keeps him in the closet.

  5. 5

I'd watch one woman and 4 husbands. Now that would be risky.

The first two seasons were okay after that it sucked Big Time. I am still irk that HBO would keep that crappy show but cancel Deadwood and Carnivale which were both excellent shows. Grrrrrr!!!!

Re: dirtyfinger – Deadwood and Carnivale looked EXPENSIVE as all hell this show is just filmed in a little suburban house Deadwood and Carnivale deserve to be made into real movies!

I'm really excited about season 5, and not at all surprised this will be the last. Now the family have openly come out, it's all going to go downhill, can't wait to see the last season, I'm sure it will be explosive!

It's my FAVORITE show and the only reason I have HBO. When it's gone, so is my subscription. I'm pissed that it's ending, but at least I'll save 15 dollars a month. ha.
