Did The Black Eyed Peas Steal MORE Songs?!

| Filed under: Music MinuteLegal Matters

They have been accused of plagiarism before, so we're not surprised.

The Black Eyed Peas are being sued by Bryan Pringle, who claims the group plagiarized his song called Take a Dive for their hit I Gotta Feeling.

They were recently sued in January and now the suit has been reentered in Los Angles federal court. It alleged that they stole the song Boom Dynamite by songwriters Ebony Latrice Batts and Manfred Mohr for Boom Boom Pow. Batts and Mohr claim they submitted their song to the band's label, Interscope Records, a year before the single was released.

"A simple listening of the two songs will tell you that the songs are substantially similar, and that the hooks of the two songs are virtually identical in rhythm and lyrics," said plaintiff lawyer Ira Gould.

They are suing for for monetary damages including all net profits from the tracks, along with future royalties.

Do U think the lawsuits are legit?!

I knew it wouldn't take long. This last week you've been reverting back to your old self. Too bad. I thought you were really going to change. :(

  3. 3

It's the label fault.. not the group

Re: ryan005 – holy shit people… he said he will be sassy.. he isn't calling anyone names thats the key to his change. Wow…

A LOT OF SONGS SOUND ALIKE! How many different type of songs can be written with 7 NOTES. You took this story from E! who is accusing them of 'Serial plagurism' You are trying to get by, by saying it is because they were accused before. Better watch what you are accusing people of, especially since you HAVE A HISTORY WITH ONE OF THEM, MARIO. Again, there are only so many number of melodies able to be written with the combination fo 7 notes combined with the length of the notes.

Umm you shoud talk. you steal your stuff everyday. and why don't you put both songs here? You didn't because they don't sound alike! You also didn't put up the article that fergie was named Woman of the Year by Billboard. You are still nasty in an underhanded way!

Re: jamogirl – you're an idiot. he is reporting a story and asked "what you think" I didn't see an insult in there at all.

the black eyed peas are the most unoriginal group out there so i totally believe that they ripped off other peoples sounds. their last album sounds like so much that came out in the club scene in the 90s.

It must suck to get accused for the same thing more than once cause when that happens you really start to question the integrity and it makes us songwriters alil hesitant to submit work but in this case I listened to the song "Boom Dynamite" and maybe the concept is similar but that is not enough for a law sue. In music, you can't copyright titles, concepts or chords (unless the chords are famous, ex. Michael Jacksons' Beat It or the most talked about Under Pressure by Queen) Now in days producers do alot of sampling we hear it ALL the time. But the legal thing to do is get permission before so you wont end up like "addictive" by truth hurts (Dr. Dre was the one sued for this one)

listened to both songs. dont really think they stole anything. Boom dynamite does not sound like boom boom pow

This is like the third time Will.I.Am has been accused of stealing songs. Surprised? Not really. :P

Re: ryan005 – Yea Mari, is it getting better for you yet?

  15. 15

No the black eyed peas didnt steal more music.
    Their label certainly did though.
    Time for new management.
It's very clear this lawsuit has legs.

well where can we hear this Bryan Pringle's song? How can we make a decision if we have nothing to compare it with? However, Boom Dynamite does not sound like Boom Boom Pow.. they both say I got that Boom, that's about it.. nothing to sue over though.

Re: Melissa Beauchamp – YOU are the idiot! Mario posts the question without posting the two songs purposely because he wants to post a nasty rumor about the Peas without giving us the clips which eonline did post, and they don't sound alike. And he posts every little shitty, pointless things about his boy crush Beiber or GAGa, but never posted that Fergie win Billboards woman of the year award. If you can't see this is underhanded and his fake way of pretending he's not mean and biased, you are very dumb.

  18. 18

i'd have to hear it to judge.. but if the other band did send it to their label ..and it sounds similar then that does sound a little strange.. because they sent it to the same place : /

Re: ryan005 – how is that anywhere near perez is old self? he didn't draw a cock on them and he didn't even call them names.. he was jsut stating the fact that their being sued again.. shit stop being such a little bitch.. p.s. it's his site anyway.. if you cry that much over news then stay on little kiddie sites..

  20. 20

Re: jamogirl – he's reporting news.. that's what the story was about isn't it.. and stealing a song is a little different.. then having the same news on another website.. because all of them have the same news.. i've checked.. if you don't like him then why come here?

  21. 21

Re: jennycakes – He's reported rumor as fact. They have not been found guilty of stealing , unlike him. They have been accused again - big difference. The headline is a lie. And he never put the news about Feegies award anywhere. If you can't see what he or his cronies do you are dumb.

its strange how nobody had even heard of these other people untill they complained,
    thats all they are,
    complainers, wannabees,
because there beat is a little simlilar,
but i bet if these songs hadnt got to number one nobody would've complained,
    buh hey hoe,
what can you do when wannabees are jealous of mega stars :P

Duh! When I first heard "Meet Me Halfway" I was like "that sounds familiar" and sure enough the synths are directly lifted from Madonna's "Holiday". Still love the B.E.P.'s tho!
