Captain Kangaroo's costar James Wall passed away due to illness on Wednesday at the age of 92.

Wall played the friendly neighbor, Mr. Baxter on the iconic children's series between 1968-1978.

He started off working on the production team in 1962, but lobbied for the role of Mr. Baxter, making him the series' first African-American character.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolly.

So sad. Our thoughts are with his family.

We grew up watching Captain Kangaroon and Mr. Green Jeans but I don't remember Mr. Baxter cause by the mid and late 60's, most of the baby boomers were teenagers. I think the Captain died around the same time my mother died. I have had to watch all these people I grew up with slowly pass on including my parents. R.I.P.

Why is it sad? He had a long successful life and now he's dead.
