DADT Update

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikLGBT

This sucks!

It was announced that a federal appeals court decided to keep the "don't ask, don't tell" policy in effect yesterday. An appeal is still being fought out in the lower courts to make it unconstitutional.

But, see, this is why it is important to vote. Make sure you go and do that today and put people into power that you know believes in the same things you do!

I think this decision should be left up to the military. Not civilians who have no idea how things are run.

I will say this as simply as I possibly can. If a man or woman is willing to put their genitals on the front lines and risk getting them blown off for the sake of OUR country's freedom then I do not care where they put their genitals when they are NOT on the front lines.

DADT may be your priority for voting but for majority of Americans it's not….with the war, economic situation. joblessness and other major issues facing the country sorry to say but DADT is the last thing they'd consider.

DADT should be left to the military. Plus, it's very rare to find someone who believes what you believe about everything. I agree with Repubs on some things, but Dems on the other. And, right now, to be honest, I'm leaning more Repub than Dem.

And, tvmaven, DADT is not about what happens on the front lines. Most of the military will never be on the front line. It's about where you sleep, who you're in the shower with - more social kinds of issues. The reason male/female quarters are separate is because they don't want to "tempt" the other sex. Straight women are not going to want to shower with lesbians for the same reason they would not want to shower with men. So, dealing with issues of accommodations is the bigger issue than what happens on the front lines.

I agree with celebnewsjunkie. I'm going to add to it by saying that DADT should apply to ALL members of the military; we're paying people to protect and defend, and sexuality isn't relevant. And don't give me any crap about how heterosexuals housed with homosexuals might feel "uncomfortable." If you're not secure in your own sexuality you've got issues that need to be addressed, and a gay person isn't going to try to "convert" you. Do the job you're paid to do and leave the sexual preferences out of it entirely.

If you want to vote the same way the felons are voting — vote Democrat.
If you like the fact that our military men and women are being disenfranchised — vote Democrat.
If you think Cuba is a success story — vote Democrat.
If you think that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crashing the housing market is an example of "unfettered capitalism" and a failure of the free market, then vote Democrat.
If you think that smart businesspeople will sit around and let our government tax them out of existence before they move their operations overseas — vote Democrat.
If you think it helps you if your boss gets hit with a huge tax bill — vote Democrat.
If you think electric cars are the answer because they don't use energy — vote Democrat.
If you don't want Nancy Pelosi to retire — vote Democrat.

I outed my ex and he is very happy with his partner. I do take thought over the DADT. Who cares. If someone hits on you just say NO. Men are men and women are women. It does not matter who they like they are serving our country and deserve the respect and dignity that they deserve.

If we were allowed to vote on this specifically. I'd vote to keep it in! =D

There are tons of gays in the military already. they're already showering together. This is the same excuse they used for blacks in the military, and keeping women out. They used even stupider reasons before to prevent those two groups. Do you also think women shouldn't serve? Or blacks? If you did, you wouldn't dare say it, and rightly so, because it is against the law to discriminate on those grounds. As it is clearly against the law to prevent these HUMAN BEINGS from serving.
So many have already been discharged.
    Had to find other work.
Had to deal with being told to leave simply because of how they felt on the inside.
You know very well it is wrong.
If being around gay people makes you uncomfortable, I hate to break it to you, but they're everywhere. Maybe someone you know .
You'd best open your mind and join the rest of us in the 21st century.

If blacks and women made it past these hurdles (and the army tried to hold off for decades) then gay individuals will pass through too. This will one day be taught in school like the civil rights movement and the women's movement.

Amazing how we still have learned very little from history. I suppose thats why it keeps repeating
