It's amazing that she's been able to overcome so many obstacles and still be such a strong, well-spoken inspiration to so many.

Portia de Rossi recently opened up about coming to terms with her sexuality on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and also spoke out to those who may not feel ready to come out of the closet themselves!

She explained:

"Having to hide something like that just ruined me. It really, really killed me. I had always really loved men - and still do - and just kind of assumed that I would be straight. I think everybody assumes that you're gonna be heterosexual. And the thing that made me think that I wasn't, was I developed very strong feelings for my best friends. I had a series of mini-heartbreaks throughout my teens because my fantasy of what life could be like with my best friend wasn't shared with my best friend. My best friend wanted to get married to a man and have kids and I just wanted to be with them, and that's when I thought something was definitely different about me. But really it took me until I was about 18 when I realized I had to date other lesbians if I was ever going to fulfil that fantasy. Hiding your sexuality is the most horrible way to live and it really does a huge disservice to society, because if everybody who was gay came out in every profession, teachers, doctors, if everybody came out and said, 'I'm gay. Who cares?' it would make a big impact to what's happening with all this teenage suicide."

Completely true! We bet a lot of confused young men and women can certainly relate to those feelings!

Once again, thanks for being so brave and candid, bb!

Thoughts??

  4. 4

She must have a book or an album coming out soon. That's when everyone goes queer.

  5. 5

    class act…LOVE HER!

  6. 6

I just don't want to hear about another rich celeb whining and selling a book … just quit your whining and help others privately

  7. 7

I wonder how much she'll get when she leaves Ellen, and then miraculously turns straight…

Oh how brave she is, what a bunch of shit. First off, it's never brave for hot chicks to come out of the closet. It makes them more appealing since the top demo in the country for entertainment is 18 - 24 year old men. Hot lesbo's fits perfectly. Second, what is she risking, her wife is rich as hell, her career is minimal at best, nothing but self serving. Most people don't give a shit about sexuality, i'm so tired of this. In fact it doesn't get better, it keeps getting worse with every fame whore celebrity claiming their sexuality to the public. Shut the fuck up you hag.

This woman Amanda Rogers from Geelong, Mebourne Australia is the fakest person I have ever encountered. She is not a lezbot…..She changed her name, was married to a man, has not one bit if her aussie accent left, and says she became anorexic because of her gay shame. WHAT A COPOUT!!!…I see right through this sham, my god I hope Ellen has a pre nup….

Not true. That has NOTHING to do with the teen suicides (some WEREN'T teens fyi). They "supposedly" killed themselves due to BULLYING because they were gay, NOT because they were gay. AND most people don't care if you are gay or not. You can be who you want to be. Many are! Stop blaming us heteros for your stupidity and/or lack of courage.

I hope she gets the help she needs too. There are much better foundations out there than the one she is using.

    She looks fugged up!

  12. 12

u picked the worst photo of her.

Being married to Ellen has certainly taken it's toll on her.
    She looks like shit !!

  14. 14

I was right… this famewhore twat has a book that either is out now, or is about to come out called "Unbearable Lightness"… I'm so sick and tired of people using their sexuality to see books/albums…

  15. 15

Bad reporting…. you got her name wrong. She legally changed her last name to DeGeneres.

  16. 16

Oh, good Lord, who cares? Why do gays/lesbians feel they have to tell everyone about their sexuality. I'm straight and I don't.

She used to be good looking. Something about lesbians, they just don't seem to care much about their looks. Being gay seems to age women faster.

  17. 17

Luv her ♥….she also was a great character to tune into on Nip/Tuck…..I am glad she is sharing.

Re: sockie – What are you talking about ???? Portia has been out for years!, she is married to Ellen Degeneres. You obviously don't know your facts. She came out to the public in 2005.She's not doing this for attention, and her book isn't even about her being gay.

  19. 19

I saw her on Jay Leno a long time ago when she was super thin, and he asked her where she like to go out to eat. She said "on the way to the bathroom" and motioned like she was scarfing down food. It was pretty crazy, Jay said "oookaayy.." She definitely had a major problem, and to say that on TV is CRAZY!!

  20. 20

Oprah had Ricky martin today. I officially respect gay people and the stuff they go through. If my son/ daughter were gay i would love them no matter way.

After reading everyone’s comments maybe some of you are right, maybe she is talking now about coming out because she wants some kind of fame out of it. But I don’t think that we should take her situation and turn it into every other gay person’s story. Now think what you want, because your entitled to your own opinion just as I am; but most straight people are to blame on why gay people won’t come out about their sexuality. I mean if more people were understand, or maybe not understanding but just didn’t care in a way about others business; then it would not be a problem for everyone to live their life’s as they please. I am straight. I am more than understanding to those who chose to live there life’s differently than mine; and by that I mean being gay. I just hope that one day when I have children they will not be ashamed of who they are, if they choose to be gay or straight that’s their choice and I will support them to my fullest. They worst thing I think a child can go through is not being able to be themselves around those they love the most. So to those still keeping it a secret I wish you the best of luck!

Re: ladynTO – so true. i saw part of that interview and it was making me sick. someone like portia would kill herself if she ever had any real problems. there are people out there who are very ill with cancer, aids or other chronic diseases that can really screw with a persons life. add to that, many of those people are not rich. then we have to hear her whine about her dumb issues that many of which she can control. plus, shes lucky she is a lipstick lesbian as opposed to a gay man because being a pretty lesbian is way easier and more socially acceptable than being a gay man or even an ugly dyke.

  23. 23

Re: hoochpit – u said what i wanted to say absalutely perfectly. THANK YOU.

  24. 24

Re: LKMAR – u sound like a very nice person but u dont choose to be gay. its not a choice.

  25. 25

    TMI.
Why doesn't she tell us about the botox forehead and eyebrows from hell

“Straight Americans need an education of the heart and soul. They must understand - to begin with - how it can feel to spend years denying your own deepest truths, to sit silently through classes, meals, and church services while people you love the most toss off remarks that brutalize your soul.” When you’re being told that you’re sick and will go to Hell because of who you love, which is NOT a choice. The fear and hopelessness overwhelms these children/us, and without any support, they feel they have no way out. You’re keeping the ignorance alive that continues to emotionally torture these impressionable children. The consequences of this have been proven.
