Hangover 2 Director Talks More About Firing Mel

hangover director todd phillips talks mel firing

Zach Galifianakis seems to have gotten the brunt of the heat for smoking a fake joint on TV causing Mel Gibson to be fired from The Hangover II.

Here's what the film's director, Todd Phillips, had to say about Zach Galifianakis' involvement in the Mel firing:

"There's no truth to it being any singular person. The truth is, if it was one person it wouldn't have gone down that way, and I can promise you that. But when you have a rupture in this little family you create — especially on a sequel with a lot of the same actors and 99 percent of the same crew — you have to think about the big picture as much as a two-minute scene. I think we're on the verge of making something truly special and I'm really excited about that."

It doesn't surprise us at all that there could have been MORE than one person who didn't want Mel to be involved in Hangover II.

What do U think? Did everyone want Mel out equally? Or was Zach the ringleader?

    Who cares.

I think those recordings doomed Mel & a lot of people don't want to be associated with him. I am sure that this was difficult for RDJ, and he probably feels like a heel and he should. I mean he put his neck out there for him when times were tough, but this is different that is for sure.

  3. 3

They want him removed from the movie because they want people to go see the movie based on the merits of the movie, not because Mel Gibson is in it.

It is not so much the one or group thing, it is that HOLLYWOOD IS MADE UP OF BULLIES. Yes, bullies. While Mel is not an inocent choir boy, he has not gone to trial, but is preceived GUILTY. While we have HORRIBLE PEOPLE IN HOLLYWOOD, who have been deemed Guilty by the courts, and Hollywood welcomes them with open arms. Tyson was in Hangover, and besides the crap he has been convicted of, there is stuff there will never come to light, but he is a black man who was brought up in the worst of conditions, who became one of the youngest ever prize fighters and HOLLYWOOD LOVES PRIZE FIGHTING. So pass. Ike Turner, James Brown, numerous rap stars, CHARLIE SHEEN, all given passes, Chris Brown still being punished on a daily basis despite the fact his girlfriend was throwing punches too. She came out with a renewed career. There is a behind the scenes workings going on, and you don't dare piss off those running it.

This is kinda dumb. Mel will always be bigger than this dated comedy.

  6. 6

I find it kind of funny that Mike Tyson, a convicted rapist, was a good choice, but Mel Gibson flips out and that is the deal breaker?
    People suck!

  7. 7

well, I sure won't go to see this - talk about a bunch of fucking divas and none of them have anything close to his body of work. I hope the sequel goes down in flames, bunch of haters….

  8. 8

THE REALITY IS WE HATE MEL.HE IS A SICKO AND NO ONE I KNOW WOULD GO SEE ANYTHING HE IS IN……..SO THANKS AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE FILM…. JUST A REGULAR JOE, FROM MIDDLE AMERICA !

Rape a woman, no problem. Come on board, we want you in our film. Slur a Jew or get riled up by a gold digging baby mama looking for a payday and forget it. You're banned from the pic. Interesting set of rules in Hollywood.

Like Mel was a freakin murderer and rapist. Not only that he is not, he was not even found guilty plus the crazy russian woman is as clear as day a gold digger. Anyone on that set who wanted Mel of is an insane judgemental twofaced loser. As if hollywood is a synonim for purity. Drugs, adultery, DUI-s, hypocrisy, exploitation… and then a neanderthal loser like Zach feels like he has the moral highgrounds to tell those worthy from those who are not. He is a freakin joke.

  11. 11

Witch hunts and blackballing are apparently alife and well in the entertainment industry.

  12. 12

it doesn't surprise you that it was more than one person??? A couple weeks ago, you were posting over and over how Zach Galifanakis was the reason! Such a hypocrite.

  13. 13

    who gives a shit?

  14. 14

"Chris Brown still being punished on a daily basis despite the fact his girlfriend was throwing punches too."

I don't know whether you're a chris brown groupie or someone who gets their facts from the national enquirer. There is no evidence whatsoever that Rihanna hit Chris neither has he alleged that. STOP MAKING UP STUFF AND THEN PRESENTING YOUR MADE UP B/S. AS FACTS.

  15. 15

NO ONE HAS HEARD OF THIS SHIT FLICK AND WILL TOTALLY BOMB, WHETHER MEL IS THERE OR NOT. YAAAWN!! ANOTHER STRAIGHT TO DVD.

  16. 16

Hypocrites. What about Mike tyson. I look forward to seeing Beaver. Hangover 2 - think Ill pass! : ) I'm sure lots of other people will feel the same.

  17. 17

Zach Galifugnastiness better hope he doesn't have a Fatty Arbuckle moment in his life. In the mean time, he can go back to living in a glass house.

  18. 18

I'M WITH #1 JUDALON. WHO CARES? ACTUALLY, WHO THE **FUCK** CARES?

Mel has bigger worries than the machinations of a bunch of Harper Valley PTA types.

  20. 20

Mel was railroaded by these losers, and that Zach whatshisname, will go down as a one or two movie wonder. He's not funny in the least.

  21. 21

Hangover 1 was not funny or amusing at all. Mel would have messed up his good name by appearing in that trash.

  22. 22

Personally, I think that while there may have been a few people who had some concerns about Mel's appearance in Hangover 2, it was Zach the Asshole who went arond and fanned the flames of anti-Mel sentiment, thereby resulting in Mel's removal from the movie. Had Zach not opened his fat, ugly mouth, then maybe people would have been able to conduct themselves in a professional manner around Mel.

Memo to Todd Phillips: You fired the wrong guy. Zach G. should have been the one who was given his walking papers, and because of this you can forget about me seeing your piece of crap movie.
