Oscar-nominated actress Jill Clayburgh passed away at the age of 66 on Friday.

She was best known for her portrayals of strong, independent female roles, including the role in 1978's An Unmarried Woman, in which she was nominated for an Oscar.

Her recent TV work included guest appearances on Law & Order, The Practice, Nip/Tuck, and as a regular cast member on Dirty Sexy Money from 2007-2009.

She once said, "I guess people look at me and they think I’m a ladylike character. But it’s not what I do best. I do best with characters who are coming apart at the seams."

Clayburgh suffered from chronic leukemia for 21 years and died in her home in Lakeville, Conn.

So sad.

SHE WAS A HIGHLY ACCOMPLISHED ACTOR. SHE ALSO MUST HAVE BEEN AN INCREDIBLY STRONG PERSON, FIGHTING LEUKEMIA FOR 21 YEARS. R.I.P.

I feel lonesome tonight, the world will not be the same without this wonderful actress and woman. I saw her in an Italian movie, I think it was titled "La Luna" and she was extraordinary, should have been nominated for an Oscar. The fact that it was an Italian film may have worked against her. Rest in peace my beautiful and talented Jill Clayburgh. Strange: I just ordered yesterday new frames for my glasses, EXACTLY like the ones Jill is wearing on the picture.

Deepest condolences to her family and friends. I loved her character on Dirty, Sexy money. Was so mad when they cancelled that show. To battled a terrible disease like cancer for so many years shows how strong she truly was. God Bless and Thank You Jill.
