Conan Vs Leno: Who Won The Night?

| Filed under: TV NewsJay LenoConan O'Brien

conan obrien first show rival jay lenos tonight show in ratings, neck and neck

Prepare to eat a heaping helping of crow, NBC.

The numbers for last night are slowly coming in an so far, Conan O'Brien doesn't have to thing to worry about. He's already rivaling Jay Leno!

The early numbers are showing that Conan drew a 2.8 rating, while Jay brought in a 2.7.

A close match to be sure, but we have a feeling Conan will be tasting sweet victory by the end of the day.

Congrats!

It's the first night, that'll be the highest ratings Conan will ever see.

There wont be any crow to eat. This is a premier. His numbers are going to drop faster than 900 pound person can eat the entire buffet at Shoney's. And that's really fast btw.

    i hope you realize you're averaging about 5 comments/post…………used to be about 100/post…………just sayin…….

Dave Letterman, Jon Stewart both mentioned Conan's return last night, on their shows. Jay didn't mention Conan once.

  5. 5

Uh, it was his first show and folks were tuning in out of curiosity. It certainly is no bellweather for his long-term prospects.

    Congrats, Coco!

  7. 7

Wow, that's actually not good. Conan is expected to do better on his first night back because people are curious. This means he will be below Jay in a week or two, and probably even lower than Letterman (who is also lower than Leno).

  8. 8

2.8 for a cable show without a lead in from the local news…. ummmm those are HUGE numbers!

  9. 9

Im sorry but this article is so stupid it is beyond retared seriously. How can these numbers be a reflection of anything. He is just starting out, there was a big mess all over the media, of course a lot of people will want to check it out in the beggining. Only after a few months can the numbers be taken somewhat seriously.

He did a 2.8 and you think NBC should eat crow, are you kidding??? They are laughing their asses off! That's his number for a PREMIERE and that number will drop by at least half after the curiousity wears off in a couple weeks! Good job Conan, now you have TBS on the hook for some more free money since they'll end up having to buy your contract out when this show tanks too!!!

  11. 11

Conan is just NOT funny!!! That's why his azz got kicked off NBC! FACT! I tried to watch him when he was on nbc, but didnt laugh one time!

  12. 12

Oh, and what a sucky time slot!

  13. 13

    Team Coco!!!!

Are you really so stupid that you don't realize these numbers will drop over the next month by probably alot. I remind you when they movied Leno to 10pm the first week he brought in 18 million viewers.

  15. 15

what, this unfunny twit AGAIN? TBS would have done just as well leaving Lopez where he was without taking on Conan the Loser. talk about a waste of money…

  16. 16

As pretty much everyone else has said… that's nothing really. Give it a week.

  17. 17

It's good for Leno that he can basically get the same ratings that Conan has for his premiere.

  18. 18

No, PrincessLisaEmma, they aren't huge. Yes, it is basic cable. But it was EXPECTED to do much higher than barely beating Leno. As everyone with a functioning brain (apparently this does not include you or Perez) has pointed outhis numbers were GREATLY inflated due to curiosity. They will fall and he will settle into third place. Maybe even 4th behind Stewart. (And your comment about a news lead in shows how out of touch with reality you are. Having a news lead in does NOT help in the demographics that Conan is after.)

  19. 19

It's the first night people tune in because they are curious. Give it a few weeks then update us! I watched for a bit then got bored of him like always.

  20. 20

The first night's show is going to garner higher than usual numbers. Let's see what the numbers are in the coming weeks. Nothing against Conan, but I've never watched his show on a recurring basis. He's not that funny or entertaining to me. His interviewing skills are better than Leno's.

  21. 21

I love Conan, I really do, but let's face the facts:

    1. Broadcast Networks alway, always beat out basic cable. For starters, a good third of the entire country does not have cable.

    2. Conan, last night, as much as admitted that he had made a terrible mistake by not taking NBC's first offer, that his he keep the Tonight Show, but that it move from 11:30 pm to 12 midnight. And he is right, he would have done much better staying with NBC.

    3. As all the commentors here have already said, last night was the premiere, the number WILL go down from there. By contrast, Leno's numbers were for a typical night without any A-list guests.

    4. Conan's numbers will be half of what they were last night by a month from now.

  22. 22

Re: Slore – lol!! funny comment. loved it

  23. 23

Conan will do just fine. he won't make leno numbers, cause he's on a cable show, but he will do well enough and he'll actually be able to be funny again, and not have nbc riding his ass all the time and censoring all his good comedic shit!

  24. 24

    LENO SUCKS

The true test is 3 months from now or, hell…tonight. Conan was never funny…period. Not sure how he's made a career in comedy when he can't make most people laugh. Leno may be safe, but at least he's funny - Conan just can't be funny on the spot w/o his Harvard writers - and most times they aren't funny either. The only thing funny to ever come out of his NBC days was that insult comic dog and guess what - CONAN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

  27. 27

First week of curiosity. It will go down.
