We suppose after 40 years, it's acceptable to call it quits.

Film critic Gene Shalit announced yesterday that his 40 year stint as film critic on The Today Show is now over, and he'll be leaving the program to focus on his work in commercials and on the internet.

He'll be treated to an on-air send-off tomorrow.

So bittersweet!

Good luck on all your future endeavors, bb, and thanks for telling us what flicks sucked for all of these years!

This is sad news. He's such a talented man. Hope his health is okay. I can't seem to remember when he wasn't on tv as a film critic.

Good, perhaps he'll have time now to shave off that hideous looking mustache.
