Matt Lauer Stands By His Kanye Interview!

| Filed under: TV NewsCelebrity FeudsKanye West

He's sticking to his guns!

Despite Kanye West's Twitter flip out , which alleged that Matt Lauer tried to force answers out at him regarding his prior comments about George W. Bush being racist, we're told that The Today Show anchor purposely let the segment air in its entirety this morning (above) to make a point that nothing was taken out of context!

Eek! It will certainly be interesting when Kanye returns to the morning show the 26th to perform!

What do U think?? Was Matt too pushy or did Kanye overreact??

    Kanye is little Bitch.

  2. 2

Kanye is a whiny bitch and I am SO SICK of hearing about him and reading about him! Quit giving him the publicity Perez! Matt wasnt too pushy….I thought it was good TV..and about time somebody called him out…

  3. 3

Ugh Kanye West LOVES being scandalous and dramatic.

  4. 4

Wow. Kanye is a complete idiot. Team Lauer on this one.

  5. 5

Kanye totally overreacted…the race card thing has definately run its course. I'm so sick of it…get over yourself…..

  6. 6

PLEASE! I implore you, Mario, HIRE someone who can spell, edit, and construct coherent sentences.

  7. 7

Kanye is a little bitch diva. He needs to get over it. He isn't as grand as he thinks he is. Just STFU and move on.

  8. 8

I think Kayne is a highly emotional individual who still has a long way on how to deal with the press and high pressure situations professionally. Throughout the interview he looked like a little kid who was caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

  9. 9

I think it is a learning moment for all of us!!!!!! Im very sorry such a out spoken person such as Kanye, has to to pay for all the crap that as gone for years!!! Im a white woman in my fortys with interracial children who are judged daily by stupid uneducated people….. Kanye is just very passionate about life, speaking with passion is judged harshly by insecure people…..The truth is hard to speak…

  10. YUCK says – reply to this

Everybody knows kanye is the bitchiest attn whore out there!

  11. 11

He looks like a black Quagmyer

  12. 12

Joking aside, I think he has ADD.. He cannot concentrate or think of a coherent sentence so he gets frustrated and attacks. His brain may not work well with trying to come up with an answer. He said he is a rational, well thought out person yet he is the same person who does things like stomp on stage and rant and rave about race and fairness. Whatever…He's a punk who received fame and fortune and thinks he is so important that we must listen to him…He's a moron..

  13. 13

I'm not a Kanye West fan nor of rap but I agree with his assessment that Matt Lauer tried to make the interview a "gotcha moment" and tried to sensationalize and embarass him further…a tactic used by most 3rd rate interviewers like Katie Couric and others. Matt will never achieve the status of a Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer or Oprah Winfrey…he just doesn't have the skills or tact to pull off and conduct a great interview.

  14. 14

Wow, Kanye's illiterate AND racist. he can't respond in complete sentences or coherent thoughts. Too much weed and Cristal, homey.
He wants to 'man up' to George Bush but never actually says SORRY to him or Taylor Swift on air, but only squirms when they show proof of his acting like a jerk, As MV said, 'Doesn't seem like much'
Kanye voted with his dick for Beyonce's video of a simplistic song, so he and his erection interrupted a 98-pound teen singer-songwriter's dream of accepting an award. Would he have interrupted a man, or a black woman's acceptance speech? No. Because they would have knocked him flat on his black ass.
Say sorry, like a REAL man.

And George Bush is SUCH an asshole to think that's the lowest part of his presidency to be called a name. He bombed the US back into an intellectual stoneage, declared war on a country that had little to do with 9/11, and couldn't react to real life emergencies, and being called racist by a racist is your low point?
Boo freakin' hoo to both nutbars: think of what you DID to others, and how little that is compared to a word.

  15. 15

kanye has psychological problems…he thinks because he is black he is constantly being persecuted and everyone is out to get him. its like he thinks he is the first black man in the world…ridiculous.

he has major ego problems, and needs to learn to control his immature emotions.
obviously he was a big time momma's boy who never was told 'no' or 'you are wrong, apologize and mean it'.
he hates being held accountable for his actions….he thinks he is above everyone else. and his new music really sucks!!!

  16. 16

Isn't Matt a journalist? He def wasn't acting like one in his interview with West. He was too subjective for his own good.

  17. 17

I wonder if this is the first time he's really been pinned down to explain some of the bullshit he regularly spews.

  18. 18

LOL@Merideth at the end when she said "it didn't seem like much". Kayne comes across as a young hot headed and arrogant young man with a lot to learn.

  19. 19

Kanye is an ASSHOLE! I watched that entire interview and it was Matt Lauer who apologized for Kanye. Kanye NEVER said the words "I'm sorry". He can interrupt Taylor Swift but everyone is supposed to be super-polite to him? What a narcissistic douche.

  20. 20

Kanye is a total douche, and it is really hard to take him seriously when he has ruined his teeth with that crap. All I could do was look at his ridiculous grill.

  21. 21

LMAO!!! After all that he says they are looking forward to Kayne's performance! LOL Too funny…..something tells me he won't be there.
Why was Kanye there? To talk about his past mishaps or what??
I guess it doesn't matter. It's obvious that Kanye is the biggest jerk! Talented yes, but still is a jerk. He has no regrets and it about killed him to say I'm sorry. JERK! Go Matt!

  22. 22

kanye is an annoying little bitch.

  23. 23

I can't believe that someone who is this intelligent, who talks strongly about race, who is trying to find the right words to express what he means, drops the n-word in every song he makes… I get why he is being all diva in the last part, he feels attacked but still, i don't understand him..

  24. 24

the fact that bush considers being called a racist by a rapper "the worst day of his life" proves how bad of a president he was…he shouldnt CARE what celebrities that have NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS say about him. sure kanye will get publicity but there are more importnat things to be focusing on…thousands of lives have been lost because of his war on terror and katrina and THATS what he feels his biggest problem is? what an ignorant, self centered man

  25. 25

he should be doing something to prove hes not a racist.. not complaining about the fact that his actions led someone to believe he was

  26. 26

Unfortunately for Kanye having a career such as a famous rapper or celebrity is not always going to be kittens and rainbows. When your that famous there comes responsibility. Kanye acts out and when people call him on his shit he disappears until people stop talking about it. Then he conveniently half asses somewhat of an apology when he has an album coming out. It seems like he can dish it out but can't take it. He is such a baby. He needs to learn self control! I guess he doesn't realize not everyone gives a shit what his opinions are.

  27. 27

    Please make it shut up…….

  28. 28

both are shits…but i like kanye more…at least he has some talent.

  29. 29

He's such a moron. He reminds me of the character on In Living Color played by Damon Wayans that tried to talked more intelligently than he really was.

  30. 30

Matt - you shouldn't be picking on a person who can't even put together a proper sentence…

  31. jaims says – reply to this

    Oh.My.Gosh….I have no words!
Kanye is an idiot and just plain dumb.

    Wow, just wow.

  32. 32

haha seriously though. like meredith said…"didn't seem like much"

  33. 33

Way to go Kanye! We love watching you make a complete ass out of yourself. You just keep proving what a self-absorbed, pompous pinhead you really are. Three cheers (at least!) for Matt Lauer.

  34. 34

matt lauer calls himself a journalist yet he shows all sorts of emotion and is clearly trying to get a certain response out of Kanye. If he was any good at interviewing he would have either spoken about other topics or asked kanye in a much more simple manner about all the negative aspects. if anything matt is a racist, if you compare how he interviewed bush to how he interviewed west you see that he was much more mellow tone with bush however was very opinionated with west. how the fuck can you be mellow tone to someone who drove a country into a recession, started a new war and made some of the worst decisions ever over any other president, and then turn around and interview a black man who made a couple small mistakes that he has seen shown his regret about and then spend the entire interview attacking him. If you ask me Matt and Bush rub each other off and then go for there KKK meeting.

  35. 35

Re: haaaaay – the african americans, especially the rappers, have taken the "n-word", which in the past was viewed and used as a negative slur towards african americans, and made it a positive, and empowering word. all the power to kayne.

  36. 36

Regardless of my opinion of Kanye, which isn't exactly positive, I still think Bush was, and is a racist. He was THE WORST president we've ever had, hands down. I don't think Kanye should have to apologize for anything in regards to his Bush comments. More people need to speak out about the horrors of the Bush legacy. Has America suddenly come down with widespread amnesia? WTF?

  37. 37

I actually agree with Kayne's original statement that George W. Bush doesn't care about black people and I'm white. I mean he wasn't saying that Bush was intentionally racist, but rather since black people don't vote for Bush and they aren't oil tycoons, they aren't really high up on Bush's list of Americans to please list. And I also agree with Kayne's comment about how Beyonce should have won that MTV award;it was a bitch moving saying it during her speech (he should have waited for his performance), but it was true. Beyonce's video and song were a national anthem for single ladies, and there are more single ladies than there are country fans…

  38. 38

Well I am a fan of him but its not the reason why I agree with him, i call out people all the time, but I do think Matt was being pushy. But thats journalism.. I think Kanye wasn't ready for that question. Matt also wanted to show the Taylor-Kanye West Clip too.. that was dick move.

  39. 39

Re: lmeraz – yeah i know someone like that. He is just like Kanye.. he isn't black.. and gets emotional when he speak. I love it. I love people who care what they believe in regardless if i don't agree.

  40. 40

Kayne is a total loser. He should be banned like heidi and spencer should be.

  41. 41

it's kanye. of course he overreacted, that's what he does when he feels like his name isn't in the media enough.

  42. 42

Re: Jonathan Oliver – if the "n word" is so empowering… how come only African Americans can say it ? If anyone else said it they'd get their butt kicked. Talk about being hypocrites! Ignorance is the downfall of the race game. I've found a lot of African Americans completely contradict themselves… they have the nerve to call a white person "racist" just because they are white… How is that not the same thing? If I call someone out on a bad attitude, they call me racist and then have the nerve to call me a "cracker"! Hypocrites! Especially the rappers!

  43. 43

I hope Kanye cancels on matt lauer, what a douche he is.

  44. 44

The only people who would find Matt Lauers interview okay are people who probabaly don't interact with people on a professional level on a regular basis. Kanye came across sincere and you'd have to be deak, dumb and blind not to see he ( Matt ) had a clear objective. On a different topic. One thing I never couod understand is the White House reached out to public officials BEFORE hurricane katrina hit. The White House offered to devise an evacuation plan with the Red Cross. Not after the hurricane but before. However, Public Officials in New Orleans declined the offer. They said they had everything under control. Bush didn't handle the public relations part after hurricane katrina well, but its interesting how most people choose to ignore the white house reached out before hand.

  45. 45

    kanyes a dick

  46. 46

Anyone who is disapproving Lauer actions and how he went about things is a complete and utter idiot!

  47. 47

Wow. Kanye is one fucking loser. Total narcissist — "Stopped the Internet"?!? He is simply unbearable.

  48. 48

DING DING DING, couldn't have said it better myself.

  49. 49

What a dickhead this Lauer guy is "look at George's Bush's face" are you kidding me! George Bush didn't look any different than his normal gormless liar self and is the worst American president in history! ha ha " look at his face" such a stich up and desperate attempt by this REALLY BAD interviewer. hmmmm on Bush's payroll me thinks! Lauer was not interviewing professionally and being totally subjective. Kanye maybe doesn't get everything right but most people I know here in the UK have always thought Kanye was right about Bush in the first place, he is a racist. There is NO WAY the aid etc would've took that long if a similar situation happened in all white rich Texas area - NO WAY!. So much of your "News" and "journalism" is biased - never seen anything like it! respect for Kayne who might not get everything right (who does) but is always true to himself and his beliefs so what if he is emotional, I like that about him.

  50. 50

    They were both A-holes.

  51. 51

Haha Kanye should of known what to expect. Fuckin idiot. Did an interview that he wasn't prepared for or ever will be at all. Almost any interview people do on shows like that, they play a video that describes the situation… almost ALWAYS.

He's a dramatic little shit, I'm tired of looking at his evil fuckin face too, and I will be happy when I hear of his death someday. He's fucking off his rocker. And no, not just because he called Bush a racist, because of how I feel has nothing to do with Bush. It's the fact he has a huge fucking issue with race. I'm tired of every 'issue' he has, it always seems to involve whites and he always blames everyone else but himself. He's the most ignorant fuck I've ever seen, besides some nazi supporters, and he doesn't deserve what he has at all. He acts like everyone OWES him and all blacks, something because of shit that went down when NONE OF US were around.

Many of us had family members die in the Civil War to stop slavery, but us now, we're all still pieces of shits because we're still white. Sorry mother fucker, nothing I can do. Plus I wouldn't want the rep people like you Kanye, put on black people. It's fuckin sad, and there's a lot like you!

Go shoot yourself Kanye, do EVERYONE and your race a goddamn favor!

  52. 52

Kanye over reacted. As usual. I bet he cried in the car on the way home.

  53. 53

Kanye is a damn baby, who thinks EVERYONE is out to get him. Grow the hell up. You said something you shouldn't, now admit it and move past it.

  54. 54

Re: lmeraz – Uneducated? It's not being uneducated when someone makes a judgment on black people. They do it just as much on whites! But its okay. Always is, because people have become afraid of blacks? Honestly, it's very rare for me to run across a black that is actually nice. Most of them are fairly rude and make people feel really uncomfortable. Constantly making scenes. Haven't been taught to act normal in society. Maybe it's where I live, but I've lived on the East and West coasts of this country and it's still the same.

I don't feel sorry for Kanye because I'm sure there are a lot of decent black people out there, but it's HIS type of lifestyle that teach young kids that whites are racist. Whites are pieces of shit most of the time, I won't lie, they really are. They're either stuck up or they are trashier than shit. It's hard to find a white person in between that's decent. But it doesn't make us racist, just like all blacks aren't racist. And just because what has happened to them before, it is shitty, but it's fucked up to put blame on all whites like Kanye pretty much does. People all around are shitty, judgments are made about all races, and each race has an equal amount of shitty fucking people. Get the fuck over it! Blacks happen to be a race also and are also under that category like every other race, doesn't make people racist! Big difference!

He's a damn anti-christ and an embarrassment to society if you ask me!

  55. 55

Re: Rican31 – Hahaha I thought that too. He really doesn't know how to control his emotions. I know I have issues with that too, but I admit it publicly when need be lol! This fucker acts like he does no wrong.

"Everyone supported me when I said Bush was racist, they cheered me on" hahahaha yeah, everyone to you is mostly racial black people. Come on, you don't say shit like that on public television, when you're suppose to be on there making a better man and image of yourself.

This little boy needs to be downed in the tub, sorry!

  56. 56

Re: MandiBee – He's not talented what so ever. Every song he fucking does has very, very dumb'd down and weak lyrics. He has no MUSICAL talent at all.

  57. 57

Re: Jonathan Oliver – Hahahahahah you and Kanye must share a brain. HAHAHA I would of had a bit of a difference too when interviewing Kanye because he is known world wide for being a loser. He's done some REALLY shitty things and he has no comprehension of good behavior. He doesn't respect ANYONE but his blacks, why should anyone respect him? I honestly would of refused to interview him. Put a better black icon on there, with common sense and respect for all people. I don't care if he had to do with Bush or not, I would of found something else to talk about with another celebrity who happens to be black.

You and you Kanye can both bathe in hell for all I care. You're just as bad, and I'm shocked you took the time to defend such an illiterate person that definitely does have the brain capacity to learn how to treat all people correctly.

  58. 58

Re: Chinwe Okorie Ŧ – It was a dick move to show videos of Kanye making an ass out of himself? No one really got a real apology for half the shit he has done. This is what I am talking about, you protect Kanye for something shitty. If it was a white person doing all this to blacks… you'd be through the roof.

That's why blacks usually have a bad name, everyone else is called racist but you guys don't divide color from right and wrong. Pure ignorance.

  59. open says – reply to this

Matt is a great interviewed. He asks a ? and allows the guest to just speak w/o interrupting. Kanye is an arrogant jerk who overreacts to everything.

  60. 60

Re: justcruisin – Interact with people? Man you must be seriously mentally slow if you thought how Kanye acted was professional.

  61. 61

Unfortunately, Kanye's behaviour overshadows one thing… - Matt Lauer is the absolute worst celebrity interviewer out there! He is a very small man, who's mission it is to embarass, upset, and belittle his guests. He's very clearly jealous of the success of these people, and wants to do what he can to take them down a notch. I think he's disgusting! I'd love to see him get fired for his lack of class and professionalism. Of course that won't happen, because the Today show wants the controversy. It's just some really bad karma coming to Matt…oh sorry, did his wife already leave him, or not? If not..she WILL. He's a waste of space.

  62. 62

Well, I am left with the impression that Kayne is essentially a rather poorly educated person with a narrow perspective who has attained a level of celebrity that affords him the opportunity to make public statements without being challenged with a sensible debate in response. Americans aren't so misinformed as to not be apprised that racism is something that confronts our people. But we are ALL Americans and that means we have to ALL come together on some level to be the best we each can be. I think that many people with Kayne's perspective lean on factors that are problematic not just for Black Americans-but they think that is the case. That assumption warps their ability to participate in Life with a clear perspective. As a White American, I can attest that I've been subjected to incredible abuses of every imaginable type my entire life. That IS Life-look at the patterns of history. To assume such things happen to you because of your race is flawed thinking; if someone wants to abuse, they'll find any excuse to justify it.

  63. 63

Re: Jonathan Oliver – I think you're imagining the differences between the two interviews; I didn't see them. In any event, one actually would expect a difference in interviewing a former President of the most powerful nation of our time, and interviewing a pop musician that only appeals to a certain niche of society. They are on two entirely different levels.

  64. 64

Kanye is still WAYYYYY emotional and sensitive over his disrespect towards Taylor Swift and Bush which he only has himself to blame . Kanye instead of being bitter and angry why don't you make a philanthropic effort to help the people of New Orleans by donating all proceeds of your new album to the poor people of the South who still live in dire poverty? Maybe giving back will help release some of your pain.

  65. 65

    matt lauer can suck it!

  66. 66

Re: justcruisin – Kayne came across as sincere? Even a basic comprehension of body language and the ways in which a person will struggle when trying to put together a response to a question make it clear that Kayne was being utterly fake through the entire thing. He wanted to rant some more about how he is right and that everyone else is wrong. And let me point out, that I would have been fine with hearing his views, if he could have presented them with some intelligence and rational grasp of the realities of existence (which he cannot do). For example, he clearly DOES believe that Bush is a racist who doesn't care about Black people. And I think that's fine really - I can understand someone being concerned about that. But I think he should learn to couch his commentaries in stronger ways, and present them at times when people are going to be responsive to them. It's like he intentionally undermines himself with stupidity. I've certainly encountered commentary from other Black Americans that address concerns about racism and the like, and whose ideas are put forth with powerful and clear skill and based on thought processes I can respect. I think most of us who dislike Kayne's expressions base that on his irrationality and rudeness, not that there might not be some validity in the underlying point. He's the type that hurts his cause rather than helping it.

  67. 67

Re: fiercefrumpfruiyfeline – Being from across the pond you probably are not aware that the concerns were not about race but about dealing with criminality. New Orleans was well recognized and truthfully defined as a highly corrupt place filled with criminals. Dealing with something like that is complex, for example rescuers are at more risk (if you remember, many of the rescuers were threatened and attacked). It was known that trying to move that many people to safety meant they would have to be controlled during transport and gathered somewhere, and that meant subjecting the percentage of decent citizens to the whims of the criminal ones, in close confines - and that's exactly what ended up happening. People always assume that in a disaster affecting a major city, every citizen therein will suddenly up and act all nice and community-minded. Not so, and those issues require careful handling.

  68. 68

Lauer was rude and condescending. Kanye was trying to choose his words carefully and thoughtfully. Playing the Swift clip and the Bush clip TWICE was obnoxious, and if it is the Today's Show's "policy" to play clips after posing such a loaded question (that deserved the attention for him to answer) Then they are all tools over there.

  69. 69

Re: mustbenargles – " Slow" Grant-it I have a lot of typo's in my post…but if you actaully read my original post without trying to think of a smart-ass response you would clearly read I was referring to Matt Lauer. Anyone who deals with people on a pofessional level on a regular basis can see Matt Lauer's agenda a freakin mile awhile. This was probably one of the worst, sunjective driven interviews I've seen. Kayne is Kanye. So whatever when it comes to him. Although I do believe Kayne was sincere.

  70. 70

Wow! Way to kiss Bush's tush Lauer-Kanye was totally set up for tv. Like 'Haaaaay' says-now prove to us you're not a racist Bush…and the worst moment of his political career-gee dubya-wow, just wow. Now what was that war thingy about again?…

  71. 71

Re: Hapepupe – We just see the interview differently. For whatever reason Kayne is inept when it comes to communicating his emotions/thoughts/etc. He's not quick on his feet. I see a man who feels misunderstood ( which clearly is a victims mentality ) and thinks everyone's out to get him. When I look at his body language I see a man who wants to disappear, who felt on the spot and his thoughts got scrammbled. Matt Lauer pushing for and apology, cutting to bush, then to taylor swift, geez, that's something you'd see on a Maury P. show. Can you not even remotely understand why he had a deer in headlight response? It was SO under handed of Matt. That is not journalism. Well, maybe to this generation it is. that was my point.

  72. 72

Kayne West is a racist. He is also an arrogant, egotistical asshole. I am so glad that he was called out for being a racist. Everyone is so quick to call out a white person when they think he or she is being racist but no one ever calls out other races for being racist towards white people because racisim towards white people, for some reason, is accepted. As an artist Kayne West is great however, personally he's disgusting.

  73. 73

Re: MoniqueV – THANK YOU!!! My stomache turned watching this interview.

  74. 74

Re: haaaaay – Listen to the whole interview with Bush. I'm not a fan either but good god people get your facts straight!!!! He said it wasn't just Kanye. It was the general feeling in America…that the white house was responsible…lets not forget that the white house offered to devise an evacuation plan BEFORE hurricane katrina hit. People need to get their information straight before soudnig off. The public officials DECLINED. said they didn't need any help. They had it under control. whatever. thenthey ent and electedthe same people back in office. bunch of idiots.

  75. 75

Matt Lauer didn NOT do anything wrong!
Why doesn't Kanye just Shut the hell up for a change!

  76. 76

Kanye, overreact? OMG how could anyone ever think Kanye would overreact or say something stupid. Just because he has done this so many times in the past?

  77. 77

Re: Jonathan Oliver – you got it sooo right

  78. 78

Whn you make a remark like that and you are a celeb, expect backlash… Why would a rapper think anyone gives a shit about his oppinion on politics… I mean he talks like he did so much for the Katrina survivors… I am not saying bush is any better… I mean out of allm the shambles actions and debaucheries that occurred during his presidency he claims this was the worst moment in his presidential run? Like when the guys tell him in that class room in front of the kids that the trade center is under attack and the hundreds died there that was not as bad? Both men are idiots… Matt didn't push anything he wanted some answers for a statement this guy made and Kanye West should've prepared better to answer the question… Next to e he says it himself… People thought I was the man for saying that and it was cool at the time…

  79. 79

Hmmm, let's review some of the events that occurred during "Dubya's" presidency: 9/11, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, Economy plummet, Stock market crash, Hurricane Katrina, gas prices skyrocketing…and Kanye calling him a racist was the WORST moment for him? WTF?!
