Zachary Quinto Throwing Shade!

Spock has some 'tude!

Last night, New York Magazine tried to snag a quick interview with Zachary Quinto at the 20th-anniversary gala for STC. NYM wanted to talk to Zac about his work in Tony Kushner's Angels in America, but Zac went on the attack when things got too "personal."

How so? Oh, just take a read of the interview:

What's your post-show ritual?
I like to take showers after the show. And then I read. I'm reading Jonathan Franzen's Freedom, like the rest of the world. But all these questions are too personal, sorry.

Let's get less personal then. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Still too personal. Sorry.

Is there anything you feel okay talking about?
I'd rather just talk about Tony. I'm just beginning to learn from him, how to string together so many cohesive, multidimensional, layered, and unique thoughts. [Quinto ends interview.]

Wow. Someone is throwing their weight around - weight that they don't really have to begin with.

This is not logical.

I don't understand why it is excepted that actors have to talk about their personal lives and when they don't want to, they're labeled as rude.

  2. 2

so lemme get this right -
He stated the question that was originally asked was too personal (although he did answered it) and NYM goes on to ask yet another personal question (albeit a stupid question, they knew exactly what they were doing) and he's the rude one?
    team quinto on this one

  3. 3

Oh come on. I respect him for that very reason that he is private. He is a actor but dose that mean that he has to spill his live story. Respect him way more then someone just telling the world everyting. Go Quinto

  4. 4

As usually Perez you are still a bullying lying low life.

  5. 5

He is in an amazing play. Of course he would rather talk about the play!

  6. 6

It's pretty clear…he just wants to have his personal life private, and that's fine with most of us. Besides, he probably doesn't want to have a bunch of stalkers sending him 50 gallons of his "favorite ice cream flavor"? (And you KNOW they will, too.)

  7. 7

You guys are actually defending him? He asked him what his damn favorite ice cream flavor is. That isn't exactly a "Life story".

  8. 8

Re: Bambitches – according to mario's post that question (about ice cream) was asked after he told them no more personal questions. whoever from NYM asked him the question, was being an asshole…………

  9. 9

    lol Whatever..

I think he was just fucking around.

  10. 10

Re: Bambitches – would now have said it was real if it was.

Yes because anyone with a brain cell gets a joke. Why are you on a gossip site run by a gay man who claims he is joking if your PC ass can't get a joke when you see one.

  11. 11

whoever the interviewer was, didn't deserve any answers to those stupid questions. stick to the work and not personal tidbits. he was totally fair in ending that interview.

  12. 12

Why is it, that on the NYmag.com site, all the comments and readers have said that the interview with Quinto and his response's was a joke? But on here, no one can see that? IT'S A JOKE. This interview isn't meant to be taken seriously. Perez, stop trying to create drama where no drama is needed.

  13. 13

"Wow. Someone is throwing their weight around - weight that they don't really have to begin with.

    This is not logical."

Ha. No, it's not, which is probably why he was being facetious.

  14. 14

Yes Zachary, the whole fucking world is reading Jonathan Franzen's Freedom. Whatever the hell that is. EVERYONE wants to read crappy american literature, so OF COURSE the whole fucking world is reading it, whatever the hell it is.

Ernest Hemmingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald are about all you guys have to write home about, and they're pretty poor compared to the likes of Dickens, Hardy and the Brontes. A pretentious American is one of the most ANNOYING things in the world Zachary!

  15. 15

Sorry, folks, this kid is a douche-bag. Why we continue to care about these jerks is beyond me. If I was the reporter I would have smacked him upside the head and said "pull you fu**ing head out of your ass, you are JUST an actor"

  16. 16

Re: gimpus maximus! – talk about annoying - so are pretentious foreigners……….

  17. 17

    Re: sup_its_alexx
because lets face it this Perez the dumbest people online can be found here none of them like Perez himself take the time to get the truth. Pretentious is saying something when you don't know what you are talking about. The poster who called Quinto a jerk is the only jerk here sice again jerks don't think before knowing the full story.

  18. 18

Re: minxbitch – Ugh, thank you. How anyone can take this seriously is beyond me. In the original write up, the interviewer wrote "[Quinto walks away.]" instead of "[Quinto ends interview.] That was the key tell in determining this was a joke. Why they changed the ending, I don't know, but this interview is meant as a joke, nothing more.

  19. 19

I think that PH obviously needs to stay away from 'satire' and irony, and so do, apparently, half the people commenting.

The whole thing WAS A JOKE.

    Look at the last answer:

"Is there anything you feel okay talking about?
I'd rather just talk about Tony. I'm just beginning to learn from him, how to string together so many cohesive, multidimensional, layered, and unique thoughts…"

    And he walks away.

Not ends the interview, walks away. He answers the question saying he's learning how to string together coherent thoughts and WALKS AWAY in the middle of the sentence.

    SATIRE, guys.

  20. 20

Re: kannbrown – Glad one person saw the humor in that!

  21. 21

Why is he acting as if he is an Alist celebrity? He isn't…

  22. 22

An actor's post-show ritual is a private and personal thing. It is how he removes himself from his character. I see no problem with him not wanting to discuss it. And NYM were just being snarky jerks when they asked him about his favorite flavor of ice cream. He was right to end the interview. It was totally logical.

  23. 23

Let's try this again. This isn't 'attitude' or 'throwing weight around', though seriously, how is walking away from someone 'throwing your weight around'? Are journalists so powerful that you have to be some kind of power broker to so much as 'walk away'?

This was PLANNED, between the journalist and Zach. Its a freakin SKIT.

This, my dears, is one of the problems with the easy access of the internet. The 'Culture Vulture' column in the Culture section of the New York Times. At one time, you had to be not only the kind of person who reads the NYT, but the CULTURE section to even know about it, therefore, the kind of person SMART enough to know this kind of humor when you SEE it.

Now any braindead pop blogger with a search engine that can type in a celeb's name can access it and this is what results.

  24. 24

Let's explain the joke step by step. Sure, explaining a joke will lose the humor, but since they don't GET it anyway, that ship has sailed.

He starts with a 'personal question', and ZQ, spoofing the recent flurry of accusations regarding his protecting his personal life from questions, parries those questions off by even saying 'ice cream' questions are 'too personal'.

Then he DOES talk about how Tony Kushner was teaching him to string together so many cohesive thoughts'… (PH dropped the elipse, see, grammar DOES matter) and doesn't FINISH THE SENTENCE. Much less a 'cohesive thought'… which is exactly what Tony Kushner was supposedly teaching him to DO.

I'm gonna show my age and pull a Foghorn Leghorn, 'Its a JOKE, son.'

Re: April 20th – excuse me? just because we are not from america, doesn't make us foreigners, you moron. for all you know, YOU are the foreigner for the other commenter. Still agree that pretentious people suck but Americans really need to stop thinking of their county as capital of the world

  26. 26

He's just scared they'll ask about his sexual orientation.
