Supreme Court Rules DADT Stays In Place, While Lower Court Rules Unconstitutional

dont ask dont tell stays in place

Why can't they just let it go?!

Although a lower court has ruled Don't Ask, Don't Tell as unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court is leaving the law in place. The Obama Department of Justice also asked the court to keep the ban on openly-gay servicemembers in tact, while the case is reviewed.

Several Log Cabin Republicans believe that the repeal is unlikely from Congress and the courts are forced to look to the federal judge ruling stating the policy unconstitutional.

Sad. Equality for all!

What a waste of tax payers money. Just kill dadt and save the peoples money!

I don't think DADT will be repealed with the war still going on…at least they stopped discharging people b/c of their sexual orientation….I don't think Obama will be able to deliver on his promise to have DADT repealed….he just said it to get the gay votes…but I bet Perez will still vote for him in 2012. I hope they have another candidate in 2012 so I can vote Democratic again.

"Why can't they just let it go?! "

Why can't YOU just let it go?

    4. 4

      Because it's still unacceptable behavior!!!

    5. 5

Why can't YOU just let it go?!

WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LET IT GO PEREZ!!!

We don't need to know that you like to do guys in the ass…..

    7. 7

The people asking gays to let this go are idiots.

One question: Do you Perez or some of the people commenting about what stupid, hateful people that disagree with gays are have someone they know in the military currently serving overseas? I do. I have asked him and his friends what they think about repealing DADT. Well I'll tell you they don't like it and have said over and over again if their roomy is gay they will beat the sxxt out of him/her. You may not like it but this is America and people have the right to disagree with you. Just because they do doesn't make them horrible, hateful people. But realize that if this gets repealed I believe there will be lots of fighting going on between soldiers.

Repealing DADT is going to pose problems in the field. Women are not allowed to be in combat jobs because they don't want relationships to interfere with the "war mindset", how is having 2 openly gay guys any different? I'm not against homosexuality, but I don't want my husband laying there injured and dying because some guy is crying over his dead boyfriend/husband.

I really just do not understand the need for DADT. I mean, who CARES if a person likes cock or vag when they are willing to put their lives on the line for their country??? What does sexual preference have to do with it? I really just do not understand the argument for DADT.

    11. 11

Look. I'm all for the DADT. As a woman, I wouldn't want to change in a locker room or take showers with men in the same room. Its the same idea here. They aren't saying that you can't be gay in the military, they are saying so run around announcing it. The last thing people need to worry about is if some dude is checking out his junk or if he's going to save his boyfriend instead of me. Go to work, do your job, and go home. When I go to work I don't run around announcing I'm gay or straight. My personal lifestyle in meant for my personal time. PERIOD.

Re: armywifey1 – (Comment 9) I love that. Great point.

Re: Terre – You think it's acceptable to beat the shit out of someone because they're gay?!? Yes, this is America and people have the right to be bigots, but beating someone up because they're gay is a HATE CRIME!
Re: armywifey1 – Do you really think that gay relationships don't go on in the military, just because of this rule? You're ignorant to think that repealing DADT will cause gay men to cry over their lover's death, causing the deaths of others. Being in combat causes men to be emotional wrecks already, and they're already losing their friends every day - it's not going to be any harder on someone, just because they're gay. Ignorant.
Re: gorgeous_chik7 – Disgusting comment. No one wants to "check out your junk".
THERE ARE ALREADY GAY MEN AND WOMEN SERVING IN THE US MILITARY!!! No points you've made are issues in the British military, where men and women serving can be openly gay - get over it.

@Serena Loves Mario: Did I once say I thought it was okay? My comment is based on asking actual active military personnel their thoughts and opinions on the subject. Something Perez has probably never done.

And yes you are right it is a hate crime and it sucks but it's the honest truth straight from many soldiers mouth.

    15. 15

I am an active duty marine and i can tell you right now not one person wants dadt to be repealed and i can agree because this policy has been in place and things have ran smooth. homosexuals know the consequences of joining the military and trying to be openly gay is an automatic discharge so if they dont agree then dont join its simple

    16. 16

Re: MsWinston – It's discrimination! If any other employer refused to hire openly gay employees, it would be a crime.

    17. 17

DADT is just a cop out, if you can die for your country you can definitely be who you want to be so as long as you dont hurt others which is why DADT is hurtful. Men and women that are willing to die for their people/country/beliefs should be able to live their lives regardless of others' beliefs so long as no one is killed or hurt and I seriously doubt any service person who is gay and is serving is hurting anyone any more than someone who doesn't serve and happens to not be "gay." So, seriously people, who the fuck cares who loves who as long as we love each other.

    18. 18

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Thank you
Re: MsWinston – You've asked every single person in the military about their opinions on DADT? Sure. I can think of some members who would want this repealed- the 65,000 LGBT service members who are ALREADY IN THE MILITARY. The pentagon found that 70% of active military members are comfortable with gays in the military. Its not a surprise that your friends and the people you associate with are bigots like you- this is not a good starting point for a generalization. Your rationalizations against repeal remind me of the kinds of arguments once made in support of racial segregation and against women's suffrage. Of course you think things are just fine the way they are… you haven't had to endure this type of oppression and discrimination.

    19. 19

The point here is that we're discharging people from our military who have proven to be qualified, obedient, faithful, and REALLY GOOD AT THEIR JOBS simply because of their sexual orientation. At the same time, we're not meeting recruitment goals, lowering academic as well as physical and psychological health standards for recruitment. We're recruiting more members than every before with felony charges on their records, what a great alternative.

It was found after 9/11 that these tragic events could have been predicted from communication between Bin Laden and Al Qaida. This wasnt found till after the fact because there was tons and tons of backlogs that needed to be translated from Arabic to English. Did you ever think that if we hadn't discharged over 400 Arabic linguists under DADT pre- 9/11, maybe one of these GAY soldiers could have saved the lives of thousands of Americans? Im sure those that were lost wouldn't of cared who the person who stopped the attacks was having sex with, as long as they get the job done.

    20. 20

Re: Terre – Actually, you're friends with someone who would beat up another person, simply for being gay - I'd say that heavily reflects on your character. Just because you spoke to ONE member of the military who happens to be a bigot (and a violent one at that) and associates with other bigots, it doesn't mean every single person in the military feels that way.
I have several friends in the military, and not one of them would hurt someone simply for their sexual orientation. The opinion your friend holds isn't a widespread sentiment in the military. I'd say the Pentagon's 70% is far more accurate.

    21. 21

why can't you just let it go, fatty?! The majority of America does NOT want gays in the military- that is why it is still in place!! This is a democracy and this is what the people want to so quit being a sore loser and just STFU about it already!

    22. 22

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Quite your crying you whiney worthless bitch. If you don't like it then you go join and serve. The military members don't want them there flaunting their sexuality and shoving their gay propoganda down everyone's throats. The fact is that if they repeal this there will be a harsh wake up call for the gays. They will get beaten, some may end up dead. That isn't right, but it's true and this law is actually protecting them. Go find something better to whine about or go back to mexico.

    23. 23

Re: jeremyandkristy – Hmmm… go back to Mexico? I'm a non-Hispanic American citizen living abroad. Glad to see you discriminate not only against gays, but also Mexicans. I hate to see people who only hate one minority - spread your hate around for everyone!

    24. 24

Re: jeremyandkristy – Actually, this isn't the first time you've called me a Mexican. I remember it from another post… What is it with you and Mexicans? A psychiatrist should be able to help you.

    25. 25

There will be a discrimination case filed every time a gay soldier doesn't like an order. No one's being kicked out anymore, just keep your sexual business to yourself. Gay OR straight, military OR civilian. Your sex is only sexy to YOU. STFU, thank you.

    26. 26

Re: jeremyandkristy – Democracy? It was just leaked that a new study from the Pentagon shows that a majority of civilians and military members support the repeal of DADT. REPEAL IS WHAT A MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WANT, its the small religious right MINORITY that needs to STFU and move into the 21st century.

I think the argument I keep hearing that DADT actually protects gays in the military is completely mis-informed and undermines the work ethic of our military. I wouldn't make it very far in the military because there's many issues that I feel strongly about and there's numerous things I would absolutely refuse to do. This is not the mentality of a solider- if ordered to march, they march… if ordered to shoot, they shoot… if ordered to serve alongside gays and lesbians, that's exactly what they'll do.

Your comment also suggests that harassment and abuse towards LGBTQ in the military doesn't already exist… This is also misinformed because it happens all the time. Under the current laws however, gays and lesbians are less likely to report instances of abuse because it might lead others to question their sexual orientation. If DADT is repealed, harassment and abuse towards gays can be reported and dealt with similarly to another other instances of abuse towards hetero or homosexuals. DADT is not protecting anyone… don't get it twisted.

    27. 27

Re: Serena Loves Mario – THAT IS WHY THE MILITARY IS NOT ANY OTHER EMPLOYER!! WE LIVE BY DIFFERENT STANDARDS THEN CIVILIANS DO. IT'S A FACT AND THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT IF YOU WANT TO BE OPENLY GAY THEN STAY A CIVILIAN THE MILITARY DOES NOT PLAY THAT SHIT. NO OPEN HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE MILITARY DEAL WITH IT!

    28. 28

Re: MsWinston – There are different standards for the military but I always thought the military should be held to higher standards not lower ones?
