More Skins Promos!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV News

Eh…we're still not convinced!

Check out (below) some more shots from the USA adaptation of the UK smash series Skins!

It just sort of feels like they're taking the raw honesty of the original, and marketing it as shock value for American audiences, no?

Some things just need to be left as they are! Ugh.

This Eden B. person, who made the poorly spelled comment, is clearly a British teenager.

  2. 2

    I love that big bong.

  3. 3

oh my God, Perez you are absolutly right here! Skins UK wasn't trashy for being trashy! it wasn't the partying and the drugs that made it shocking, it was how BRUTAL everyone's lives were

MTV just cares that it is going to be skanky and borderline-explicit, and this is how they are going to get viewers… pathetic

  4. 4

I dont know the show, but debauchery sells, we know this!

  5. 5

hmm might watch the first episode just to see. But the UK series were so good (talking about 1 & 2 here, not 3 and onwards)

  6. 6

Mmmmhmmm…. Just what we need… More promotion of underage drinking, drugs, and sex…

  7. 7

the thing is, shows like Skins, The Inbetweeners and The Office were designed to portray BRITISH humour/lifestyle. it won't work, simple.

  8. 8

    Re: Emilie13 – I agree… 1 and 2 were great, but 3 and 4 were absolutely terrible.

  9. 9

My thoughts? Thank god I got laid off and had to cancel my cable. At least now my brain isn't rotting.

  10. 10

There's something about Skins (first 2 seasons) that was different, I don't know if id go so far as to say that its cutting edge but it was unique, memorable and very well written. The actors were amazing.

I'd probably watch one episode to make a comparison between the two, but it just doesn't seem to work be out well (at the moment) for an American take at a well written British show.

  11. 11

I love the UK version and from the previews the US version looks like a direct rip off soooo… while I will watch it just because the lives on these teens are so far removed from what *most* of my teenage years were like.

  12. 12

This is stupid…waste of money and time

  13. 13

American TV is known for it's trash.

  14. 14

it will never be surpass as brit skins

  15. 15

The promos look exactly like the first two uk season with different people. Bleh. Can't people just watch BBC America and be happy with that??

  16. 16

Ok Maybe i'm the only one who saw this but there are alot of elements from the first season of skins uk that are shown in one of the trailer. Like when Tony does his choir show and kisses Abigail in front of Michelle, i've seen clips of that in the trailer and alot more similar storylines. So there lying when they say that skins us won't have the same stories as skins uk

  17. 17

So agree. Loved BBC Skins as you felt it was real. This looks like a trashy, flashy American remake. I will wait for BBC America to show series 4.

  18. 18

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Your an Idiot.Learn to read.US VERSION

  19. 19

Skins was a portrayal of British life with British humor. I don't know why anyone would think this would work in the US. Yet another example of us trashing quality UK shows, why cant we be happy with watching the originals?

  20. 20

Doesn't matter. Todays youth is garbage. MTV never cancels anyshows. It will make all these twats rich and famous. It'll be on a year or two..Have strong enough numbers to make money due to the dumb downed American youth then I'll have to read about these retards on gossip sites.

  21. 21

This american version looks awful, it'll NEVER be as good as the orignal.

I am an American, but I think the original simply can't be replaced. Nothing will compare.. usually it doesn't.

  23. 23

At the same time I kind of feel bad for those kids because they DO NOT know what they got themselves into by doing this

  24. open says – reply to this

Re: Emilie13 – I agree. 3 on is not as good! You can't take this epic, amazing show and then suddenly change out it's most important characters for new ones! It was never the same. :(

  25. 25

Re: cheekymits – HAHAHAHA! You call ME an idiot, when you can't even spell?!? Jesus Christ, you're dumb. Did you really not understand my comment at all? Should I use less sarcasm and dumb things down for you next time?

  26. 26

Re: Asha101 – There's really not a huge difference between British and American teenage life. The story lines from Skins could easily translate to American teenage life - sex, drugs, drama… both country's teenagers have plenty of all three.
    Re: mistressfaerie – It's not BBC, it's Channel 4.

  27. 27

Original skins FTW. This is going to fail epicly, American remakes are trashy, stupid and humourless.

  28. 28

Bottom line: partying, drinking, doing all sorts of drugs, promiscuous sex, etc by young adults has become glamorized in our society and is perpetuated by these garbage TV shows that promote it, along with parents who don't care enough anymore to discipline their kids right. Most of these kids are overprivilaged spoiled brats who got plenty of material things but not enough love and attention. It's sad and pathetic and I don't know why ANYONE would watch this crap. It's bad enough that people are famous now for doing NOTHING except being on some stupid reality TV show. Our culture is completely backwards.

  29. 29

    this needs to die

  30. 30

I watched a trailer and it's basically the same characters, same scenarios, same lines just with American accents. Stick with the British skins!

  31. 31

Once upon a time there was a television channel called MTV. This channel was groundbreaking for a very good reason: it showed music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, as the times changed so did MTV. They suddenly forgot all about the music videos and filled up their programming schedule with "reality" shows that glorify violent, rude behavior, selfishness, teen pregnancy and now teen alcoholism. Now, this once little channel is groundbreaking for all the wrong reasons. The end.

  32. 32

what a bunch of british losers! americans don't care about this piece of shit show. mtv needs to start playing music again and get rid of all that reality crap. they need to take this show they've remade and toss it back across the pond into the dump, all so known as the uk!

  33. 33

i'm mostly afraid that if ever bring up skins, that people will think i'm referring to this shit. i'm also afraid that this shit will ruin the franchise for me and like everybody.

  34. 34

Re: critique_fame – not that i'm defending this show, but stfu with your blame society crap. as if you were so high and mighty.

  35. 35

I am British but now live in the US. Having spent both time in the US and the UK I feel in position to say there is a HUGE difference between US and UK teenagers and therefore this show WILL NOT translate. It is a depiction of British teenage life, just as attempts to replicate an American show about high school life would not work in the UK…. we are a different!!!

  36. 36

Re: Fletcher – that 'dump across the pond' which you refer to is where most of the music played on MTV comes from. If you are going to launch criticism at others learn to spell first

  37. 37

Re: Asha101 – Sorry, I lived in America and now I'm in the UK, and I have to disagree with you. Teenage life isn't that different.
Also, most of the music played on MTV in the UK is from America.

  38. 38

Re: Asha101 – In what ways is life so different?

  39. open says – reply to this

    Re: Fletcher – ??
Not sure what you are trying to say, but most of my fav shows are British… and I am an American. Born and raised! soo..???
anywho. I hate when we try to remake a Brit show. Just leave it the heck alone! Besides, remakes are never as good!

  40. 40

why the fuck remake skins.. without changing anything except for the cast and country :( mtv sucks :(

  41. 41

Re: Serena Loves Mario – The culture and the humour are completely different, I am not trying to say one is better than the other but they are different. Skins is based at a sixth form college not at a high school, we have different laws regarding legal age of drinking therefore much of teenage life revolves round going to pubs and clubs, shall I go on?

  42. 42

Re: Asha101 – No, I didn't think you meant one is better, but I honestly don't see a huge difference. We had fake IDs in high school, went to clubs, and drinking, sex and drugs were the norm. Even for teens without IDs, alcohol was easy to obtain. I think a show like Skins may not be relevant to all American teenagers, but I identify more with Skins than the American teen dramas.

  43. 43

Re: fuckyourfeelings – If there are problems in society that relate to this post then why can't I say something about it? I can have my own fucking opinion, if you don't like it don't fucking read it.

  44. 44

If people would stop WATCHING all these stupid reality shows, MTV might have an actual incentive for bringing back the music. MTV plays stupid reality shows ALL DAY, someone please tell who the hell watches these shows??

  45. 45

Re: Serena Loves Mario – We are different. We might do the same things like drinking etc. but the culture is different. You came from America to the UK, we have spent our whole lives outside of the U.S. Trust us, we're different. Also we get an insight into the U.S every day via all forms of media, our own countries media doesn't reach through to the U.S to the same extent so you don't experience us in the same way as we experience America during our lives. I'm not saying you don't know us or that we know you as well as actual Americans, but when we say we're different it's the truth.

  46. 46

Skins (UK) is an amazing show, but the US just has to ruin everything. WTF is the point of making the exact same show, with the same title and characters, just an american version? (That will suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so lame

  47. 47

Re: One_Night_Only – The portrayal you get of America from the UK media isn't real. Do you really think you can learn about the US from TV? The UK is the America of Europe for a reason, and it's not only due to the obesity rate - life isn't that much different. I lived in the US for 20 years and have been here for 10 years, and only see minor differences. I am also around many teenagers here and get close insights into their lives. Of course it depends on where you moved from and to - moving from London to Huntsville, Alabama, you're obviously going to think life is so different, in the same way it would be if you moved from Chicago to Stornoway. But the US is so diverse, unlike the UK, and you have so many huge differences just within its borders.
I will say that going to an international school in the US, I learned that many British parents were glad their kids were going to high school in the US rather than the UK. I'm not sure why, but I think they felt it's a better environment to raise children.

  48. 48

Re: One_Night_Only – My original point was, if you take the exact same script of Skins, change out British slang terms for American ones, move it to a US city, it will still be VERY relevant to American teenagers.
I thought I was replying to someone else (Asha) before, so I should point out that if you haven't lived in the US, you have ABSOLUTELY no idea what life is like there. You can't watch 90210 and other CW teen dramas and think you have an insight into the lives of REAL American teenagers. Even a holiday to the US won't get you an idea of what real America is like.

  49. Ecamz says – reply to this

They littarly took the English script and gave it to American actors and filmed it in the US.
The chick who is suppose to be Cassie's character from the UK version, IS FUCKING AMERICAN, and shes talking as if she had a british accent.
    This is just so dumb.
    Its going to be shit.
If you want to watch a good show,

    American television sucks anyways.
