Lt. Dan Choi Accuses President Of "Silent Homophobia"

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikLGBT

This morning, 13 demonstrators handcuffed themselves to the White House's northern gate in an effort to get President Obama to push Congress to advance the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Among the demonstrators organized by the GetEqual campaign was Lt. Dan Choi, renowned for being a gay solider who was fired under the policy. Before they were arrested, they led a chant of "Barack Obama, silent homophobia," and offered their views to the crowd about how the administration is handling this issue. Lt. Choi was one of the ones who spoke directly to the crowd, saying:

"We have served our country valiantly, the defense of freedom and justice, now it is time for our leaders to do the same. After visiting Senator Harry Reid today, the majority leader, his staff telling us that the president is not engaged, at all, in the repeal of the most discriminatory law that bars soldiers from telling the truth. After all his rhetoric I think we must conclude that there is truth to the knowledge in homophobia of both sorts. There is a loud homophobia, those with platforms. And there is a silent homophobia of those who purport to be our friends and do nothing. Loud homophobia and silent homophobia have the same result, they must be combated and this is what we intend to do today."

Unfortunately, sources at Senator Reid's office deny having spoken to anyone in the group today and as we said, the 13 protestors, including Lt. Dan Choi, were arrested.

It's so sad that it has to come to this, but something must be done to prove how serious an issue this is to those who still won't vote for it's repeal. Perhaps this forces some of those naysayers to at least think twice about their opinions.

OMG STFU. This is exactly like kanye calling bush a "racist." Unjustified accusations. There are MUCH MORE SERIOUS problems under Obama's belt right now, he does not need this nonsense. It's not like Obama is persecuting them with no grounds or demoralizing them with no means. If you're gay, good for you. Don't flaunt it in front of the army full of men and make the situation uncomfortable for them. Shut up about it and nobody would care if you're gay or not. You're there to fight, not to make changes where changes are not needed. It's not like you're paid less or given less rights. You have the same rights as everybody else, it's just that by announcing your sexuality, it can cause tension among the men, which is WHAT THE U.S DOES NOT NEED.

  3. 3

Well, if it needs to be done why don't YOU handcuff yourself to the Whitehouse gate? You're all words and no action.

  4. 4

i agree something has to be done BUT the President has bigger shit to do including getting people jobs and on and on. Also accusing the President of homophobia is ridiculous, it's not getting u anywhere.

  5. 5

Does anyone recognize the fact that Obama has appointed more homosexual officials in the white house administration than any other president. He understands Don't ask, Don't tell is against the constitution, however he does have bigger things on the agenda right now. He has to deal with this shitty economy.
He is not a homophobe and for that matter not a racist. So people please recognize that and just give him a chance to actually lead this country.

If any of these fucking idiots are still in the military, active, guard or reserve, they are going to get NJP'd and could go to prison. WHY? Because it is against the law to publicly speak against your Commander in Chief. These fucking idiots knew what the law was about DADT when they signed the fucking contract! Lt. Choi did NOT serve honorably. He has broken a lot of the rules that govern the members of the military. He is a fucking disgrace!

Re: deedith – Yeah Obama isn't working on that stuff either. He is going on mythbusters and traveling to countries that are laughing at his requests.

Honestly, this shouldn't be an issue. Sign the damn papers… if someone is willing to die for their country than that should be enough! That is true dedication to a country, willing to die for a place that won't give you rights that no one should should have rule over. If you judge someone by who they take to bed and love… you are a sad, sad human being. Worry about yourself first… and don't use religion as your reasoning. That is the most idiotic thing to stand in behind.

Re: truthabove – Love thy neighbor huh? You don't get to pick and choose what you like in the Bible and then use it against people… that is what we call hypocritical. Stand behind your book all the way, or not at all.

Poor, poor America, the country of the narrowed, double standard most racist of the world.

PS; yes Obama has more important things to do in Asia right now, he is giving those countries our jobs and money.

No wonder we are failing, no more Super America.

  10. 10

Wow. This is too far. Seriously, people don't want it passed. Deal with it. STOP trying to force your life on everybody.

  11. 11

People seem to forget that when Obama was running for President, he stated that he was against gay marriage. This shouldn't come as any surprise.
I understand that Obama has more important things to worry about, but all he has to do is think about whether he'll sign it or not. Chances are he's already made up his mind. There's a reason he's not dealing with it, other than the fact that he has a full plate; he doesn't want to pass it and people won't like that.

    Lieutenannt Daaaannn.

Thought I'd lighten up the mood a bit.

    Re: misscheriamor – agree completely

  15. 15

i think that he has more important things to worry about then that. just sayin.

  16. 16

Yes, Lt. Choi, like it's so easy. "The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are filled with passionate intensity."

  17. 17

Don't Ask Don't Tell was created to PROTECT gays in the military from being harassed and tormented.::scoff:: what a complete non-issue! Why not push Audit The Fed, or conduct a true investigation of 9/11, how about the fact that California is on the brink of collapse?

Just because the media is pushing homosexuality as the norm, doesn't mean everybody is simply going to shed their natural beliefs and honor of the traditional family.

  18. 18

And I accuse Obama of being a Muslim.

Oh shut it!Gays do not belong in army!Period.

  20. 20

You do realize that this is just a ploy for them to get thrown in jail…see then they get to be with Bubba and Maurice as their bitches and get whats coming to them….in most cases I would think about 8 inches..and Usuck is right about them knowing the policies, they failt to recognize and follow them and of course the topper being that Obamamama is a total tool who is in it only for himself and his handlers and could care less about anything else especially someones gay rights as he cares not for the rights of any other american

  21. 21

President Obama you sure dropped the ball on this important civil right's issue!

  22. 22

I have alot of friends in the military, and all have served in this war. We have all had this conversation about gays in the military, and none of them care whether their military pals are gay, lesbian,or straight. They just care that the job gets done. GLBT…Does not equal: Cannot execute task! Grow up. It's 2010—I Support the GLBT in society.

  23. 23

enough with the agenda already.. this issue does not plague nearly as many people as the major issues we are facing.. ie the recession, joblessness, homelessness… budget cuts for education…

  24. 24

There are thousands of murders every year but I don't try to say or do anything about it, am I a silent murderer?? I'm all for equal rights but fucken relax, its not like gays are being tortured or locked up or anything like that there's far more important issues on the agenda. Also it makes wonder, they go on about equal rights but they serve in a military that was actively involved in taking away human rights over the past decade. Fuck off with the protecting freedom and freeing Iraqi people bullshit nobody is that dumb to believe that shit anymore. That religious freak truthabove can fuck off too though, religion is worse than anything else on this Earth, bunch of hypocrites spewing hateful venom in the name of God picking and choosing what they want to follow and ignoring that which they don't like, retarded muthafuckers!!!

  25. 25

Am all for equal rights for gays. However, I do not think Don't Ask, Don't Tell should be repealed in the military. And it should extend to heteros in the military or ANY workplace…

  26. 26

Re: MsVPhilli – um people actually want it "passed". 70% of the military want it repealed, the same goes for the public. This is about basic human rights OPENLY serving w/o prefjudice, it's that simple. Yes pres. Obama is slow in this issue but Lt. Dan Choi has gone too far. So disappointed in him, used to be a fan.
