Mel Gibson Claims He Didn't "Hit" Oksana But Admits To Slapping Her!

But what does make the difference is finally hearing what Mel has to say for himself. He supposedly had good reason to "slap" her!
For the first time ever, we're finally getting some of Mel Gibson's side of the story of what went down between him and his baby momma Oksana Grigorieva last January. All this time, all we've heard is Oksana's account of an evening filled with terror and ending with two knocked out teeth. But Mel's version is a bit different.
According to Mel's sworn declaration he'd given a few months ago in his custody hearing, there was a fight the evening in question between Oksana and him and at the end of it, he did in fact slap her, but Mel alleges he did it for the sake of his baby. Mel claims that amidst their argument, Oksana snatched baby Lucia from her bassinet to bring her right in the middle of their feud. Mel alleges that Oksana shoved the baby in Mel's face and scream, "Stop yelling or you will make her into a retarded brain damaged idiot!"
The story takes a turn for the worse as Mel says Oksana then "spun around" and dashed out into the backyard. This concerned Mel as he explained the yard is dangerous at night, set on different levels and surrounded by thorny trees. Mell begged Oksana to bring the baby back inside and thankfully, she did, with the baby looking unharmed. But Oksana's erratic behavior continued as she started playing keep-away with the baby. According to Mel, Oksana "started swinging Lucia erratically in her arms, jerking her body from side to side to keep Lucia out of my reach."
Mel insisted that Oksana was "hysterical" and he feared she was going to give the baby Shaken Baby Syndrome as her "rapid movements were causing Lucia's little body to be flung from one side to the other, her head shaking violently."
That's when Mel decided to take action. Being as descriptive as he could, he explained that he "slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality." He insists that the slap was not hard, but he'd hoped that it was enough to get her to stop screaming and endangering the baby. Mel went on to say:
"I did not hit Oksana with a closed fist, as she alleges. I did not ever punch her in the face or in the temple or anywhere else, not then or at any other time…While I do not believe I handled the situation as well as I should have, I was worried about the rough way Oksana was shaking and tossing Lucia around. My hand never touched any part of Lucia…There was never any blood on Oksana and none of her teeth were 'broken,' although one of the false veneers from a tooth apparently did come off, I did not see that occur at the time."
If he could prove this, than the story gives him a good defense against his domestic violence charges…but who to believe. It's a convenient story for him, but then again, so is Oksana's if we take Mel's story at face value.
This case isn't ending anytime soon, we fear.

his story sounds believable. i believe both of them are hot headed in an argument, at least when they are aware that there is no tape being made of the conversation. a russian woman like her, out for money and blood, would NOT shy away from a confrontation or shouting.

i am pretty sure her lawyers asked her if she was ever hit, and she explained the events of that night….then a lightbulb went off for her and the lawyers, and they said they could charge him with battery assault and get tons of money…
everything oksana has done has been a calculated move towards getting money out of mel. she is not concerned for her daughter, only for her own selfish interests: public image and financial well being.
how would you feel if an argument you had with your spouse/partner turned heated, and you grabbed them and shook them or slapped them, to get them to calm down, and they then spun it to look like a battery or assault? just to get money out of you?
i feel sorry for mel. what a friggin nightmare this woman has turned out to be. but i guess this is his karma for cheating on his wife with the whore in the first place.

His account of what happens sounds absurd. I don't believe it for a second. Oksana's sounds exaggerated as well. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle. The fact that he slapped her "one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality" is absolutely inexcusable.
I know he is hated right now, but I am leaning towards Mel. These women will do anything for a dime. He is wrong for slapping her yes, you should never put your hands on a woman but where would she be without him? He is her meal ticket, she will say and do whatever, to ensure HER future.

I'm "team Mel". If you look at all of the actions, accusations, time levels and progression of events and such, Oksana looks so much more like someone who is manipulating and changing stories, etc.
Mel maybe lying but if the case goes to court, Oksana has damaged her image in the court of public opinion and most people who will be in the jury pool will no longer believe her side of the story b/c of all the inconsistencies. If criminal charges are brought against Mel for domestic violence I can see a hung jury or not guilty verdict but if extortion charges are brought against Oksana I can easily see a guilty verdict in which case, she loses custody of Lucia.

Wow, I'm shocked at how many people think it was ok for Mel to slap Oksana in this situation. He should have left the room to defuse the situation, not slap her. If she followed after him, he should have called the cops. Slapping someone doesn't make them calm down — it upsets them more!

We are witnessing the slow, methodical destruction of a mentally disturbed woman at the hands of a carefully-crafted legal strategy plus the vagaries of a fickle public. We are seeing Oksana constantly pandering to the media as she and her legal team throw every kind of allegation out there in the hope that something - anything - sticks.
Meanwhile, Team Mel is utterly silent except when in the courtroom, refuting her allegations point by point and, at the same time, proving the case that she's a provocateur and a hysteric who'll do anything for attention while Mel's interest is in ensuring that the best interests of his daughter are met.
Now, today's declaration from Mel's team that, while he did indeed slap Oksana, it was because she was running around like a madwoman, with Lucia in her arms being shaken and whipped around, and he was afraid of Lucia being hurt. Additionally, there comes the news that Oksana has hired Ronald Litz to replace Shiftman, which means she has now gone through 42 lawyers in this dispute.
Team Mel will continue the slow dismantling of her case, getting in perhaps enough references to the original mediation and what was said there to warrant a criminal case. I think that, by the time Team Mel is finished with her, Oksana will be wearing prison garb.
Oksana has been fame whoring herself to any major media outlet who will listen to her. The fact that she DIRECTLY defied a judges orders to not speak about the case to the media shows she doesn't have the best interest of her daughter at the fore front of her mind. If she was really doing this for 'other battered women'. She would not have acted like she was above the law and done an interview. Sheshould have shown woman that you can win a case againest an abuser, not try to hang him in the media court. I hope the judge is actually thinking of Lucia and doesn't grant her full custody because shes using that kid as a cash cow. Why hasn't she gone out and gotten a real job like a woman who has really suffered and is worried about providing for her kids?!
