Robert Zemeckis To Direct Wizard Of Oz Remake Using The Original's Screenplay!

| Filed under: Film FlickersBusiness Blitz

What on Earth? Didn't the remake of Pyscho teach people anything??

Warner Brothers has reportedly approached director Robert Zemeckis to helm a live-action remake of The Wizard of Oz, using the ORIGINAL script from the 1939 version!

Although that film was produced by MGM, Warner Brothers acquired the rights to the screenplay after Ted Turner bought it. Warner Brothers than bought Turner's empire, which gave them the rights to the work!

Wow. We're happy to see Robert Zemeckis moving away from all of that creepy performance capture stuff, but this could be disastrous!

A lot of care must be taken if this actually goes into production!

Let's hope it ends up a nice tribute to the original, and not an embarrassing, unnecessary mess.

What do U think?? Should this Wizard of Oz remake happen??

They will never be able to top the original. Whose brilliant idea was this? Next they'll say they want to switch directors and they'd like Michael Bay to take a stab at it.

  2. 2

The Wizard of Oz should be as untouchable as Gone With The Wind and Citizen Kane. It's a friggin shame that Hollywood has not one original idea in those empty heads. They can't even remake The Dukes Of Hazard and now OZ???
Stop trying to capitalize off of the brains of people with actual talent. Cut out the drugs and booze and perhaps an original story might come to someone in Hollywood. These movies are classics for a reason. Not for you to ruin!

  3. 3

No. If they remake this movie, I will not be seeing it. Nobody can top Judy Garland and from what I'm hearing, Lea Michele will be playing Dorothy. GAG! Hey Hollywood, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE DO NOT REMAKE THIS CLASSIC MASTERPIECE!!

  4. 4

A resounding HELL NO. An original is always better than a remake. There will never be another Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Evlis, John Lennon Madonna and there should NEVER be another Gone With the Wind of Wizard of Oz. Isn't anything scared anymore? Companies are just out to make $ and I think this project will have a huge public backlast.

this is the shittiest idea ever - why won't these Hollywood dumbasses learn to leave the motherfucking classics ALONE!!!

  6. 6

If there is a movie that should never never never be remade, it's this one. Are there not enough scripts in the world to go around? Who could touch the beauty, the music, and the cast? Forget it…it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Looking at the posts here, no one likes this idea. And I agree. When you remake a classic of the caliber, what are you saying? You can make a new version that's better than the original? Not likely. The ONLY reason to do this is to make a buck. Whoever thought this up should be fired. And then killed. And then fired again.

    Leave Wizard of Oz alone!
    99% of remakes suck!
    The original is the best!!!!

  9. 9

    Yes, and in 3-D.

Dead BEFORE arrival. There's a bunch of Oz books - why not go film one of the other ones.

  11. 11

Please tell me this is not true!! THey are so going to butcher this one!! I grew up with OZ and love it to bits~ I don't want them to butcher my fave movie of all time!

It's "Warner Brothers THEN bought" not "THAN bought". You seriously need an education.

  13. 13

The Wizard of Oz is a remake itself. The original was a silent movie called Wizard of Oz.

  14. 14

No freaking way. They need to be looking at doing movies based on the other dozens of Oz books and stories. They could use the production design and style of the movie, but there is no reason to remake it. And the new movies don't have to even be musicals.

What a bunch of dumb butts.

  15. 15

I won't see it. This is one of these situations where "if it ain't broke…" Is hollywood running out of ideas? Kinda like hearing remakes on the radio a lot lately.. Use your imagination and stop trying to "improve" something that doesn't need it.

  16. 16

Wrong wrong wrong. Zemeckis IS NOT directing the movie. Someone needs a fact-checker… and a spell-checker.

  17. 17

Worst idea ever. This is one of the greatest movies of all time.
Remakes of movies just end up terrible.

  18. 18

UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! There are certain things you never ever EVER touch. The Wizard of Oz is one of those things. Not to mention, they'll have some untalented bitch play the lead and a slew of Glee-style "actors" to butcher the hell out of the supporting roles. This is so disgusting.

  19. 19

    Uhh this idea angers me.
Nothing from hollywoods greatest year in history should be touched.
    They're classics.

If it was going to be something like 'Tinman' that minisieres with zooey deschanel did, that would be highly interesting. But no one, NO ONE will ever be close to Judy Garland. Ever.

This film is regarded by many as one of the greatest, LEAVE IT ALONE!

  24. 24

Aww Hell no, please leave it alone.. its will lose its magic! and also, can I add that they better still use the MGM Lion in the beginning.. If not how are we going to know when to start THE DARKSIDE OF THE MOON??? IT wont work if you remove the lion!

  25. 25

Aww hell no, there is no way to remake the Wizard of Oz. It will lose its Magic.. And knowing its not an MGM movie will be tragic. How are we going to know when to start THE DARKSIDE OF THE MOON if we dont have the lion? terrible idea!!!!

  26. 26

    Nope. And just nope.
