WTF TSA?!?!?

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooLegal Matters

woman suing government over tsa security incident

This certainly isn't going to help TSA's reputation, which is already not doing great!

Recently, people have been complaining about TSA's new full body scanners, which show extremely detailed images of fliers' bodies.

Now, news of a lawsuit regarding a 2008 incident at Corpus Christi airport has re-emerged, which is bound to lower TSA's popularity even more.

Here's what the lawsuit, filed by the victim of the incident says:

"As the TSA agent was frisking plaintiff, the agent pulled the plaintiff's blouse completely down, exposing plaintiffs' breasts to everyone in the area. As would be expected, plaintiff was extremely embarrassed and humiliated."

And what happened after that? Here's more from the lawsuit:

"One male TSA employee expressed to the plaintiff that he wished he would have been there when she came through the first time and that 'he would just have to watch the video.'"

Ew. That's really creepy, TSA. We are NOT impressed, and we understand why this woman feels the need to pursue legal action.

Will this affect your feelings about TSA as you do holiday traveling over the next month or two?

    ….get the fuck over it………………

  2. 2

… the problem is that the agents have very little credentials, are low paid, and I find it surprising that people would think they would have the same respect as a doctor or police officer for people's privacy. I expect that there is no "oath" of decency that the agents must honour to keep their job or TSA license if that even exists. I suspect the "machines" and security plans are just way too advanced of a system. What I mean is that in a way and the infrastructure of people operating and conducting between the passengers and the technology is seriously lacking. Ogles and comments and lack of professionalism in a place where the individual is powerless is not right. I'm sure there are many co-workers of TSA agents and passengers alike that witness these violations all the time ….

  3. 3

You know there are some lonely people over the holidays and they just might look forward to a full body pat down….that being said what they did to this gal was wrong and it is worthwhile to explore legal action - I wish her lots of success!

  4. 4

Why can't they use bomb sniffing dogs or the puffer machines that they have in some airports? If we were to touch someone like they can we would be put in jail.

  5. 5

This woman will get PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAID. And she deserves every dime she gets. There is no need to humiliate any person, ESPECIALLY a woman like this. Purely unprofessional and disgusting.

  6. 6

Flying is a privilege - not a right. If you don't want to get frisked/ray-ed then don't fly. They do this to protect the consumers as a whole, given that flying is a business. People need to chill out about 'rights' and crap like that. If you don't want to be frisked, DON'T FLY.

  7. 7

If they found a suspected terrorist with bomb making materials inside their private parts, would the American people allow TSA employes perform cavity searches on them? I'm afraid this is coming next. This is becoming so ridiculous now and I'm afraid to say it but the terrorists are winning this war b/c they've manage to create this kind of fear and terrorism amongst the citizens and it's gov't. Obama should fire Napolitano b/c she's unable to find a better soultion to this dilemna. The US is so concerned about political correctness of not offending the Muslims of this nation that they would rather subject the whole country rather than start profiling passengers like the Israelis do….and if majority of the people profiled are Muslims living here or people coming from radical Muslim nations then so be it. The US should withdraw all our troops and not be looking for these terrorists in Iraq or Afghanistan but should hold these countries accountable for harboring these criminals. They should give them ultimatums to surrender them or face a nuclear attack. I woud rather see their citizenry go into panic than us here.

LMFAO! I call bullshit. I used to work for TSA at the Corpus airport & I know for a FACT that none of the female agents there would intentionally pull a passengers shirt down to expose the breasts, yes it would've been a FEMALE TSA officer who would have searched her. Also, if she was so embarassed about being searched, why didn't she accept the private screening option they offer BEFORE they begin searching? As for the whole "I'll just watch the video" comment. That's BS too because it's not like we could've just gone into the office & pulled up the footage. Another thing, why did she wait TWO YEARS to finally file a lawsuit?

  9. 9

i can say that as a female, i would be VERY angry and embarassed if someone managed to pull down my shirt exposing my breasts. In all honestly to STFUalready, i would never think to choose a private screening because I am not hiding anything, and i hoenstly would not ever think that someone would do that. Regaurdless to how things were when you worked there, this incident happened. And I dont think anybody should be trying to blame the TSA, it should be the person who patted her down and pulled down her blouse that is on trial; and whoever the person that made the suggestive comment (if it was made) should as well. The TSA did not tell them to do this, it would one or two bad people that did.

However i can say that i agree with gerry n sf, i think we are letting them scare us to the point where it is suddenly ok now to pat people down. If i walk up to someone on the street, and frisk them, then say its because i feared for my life would they be ok with that? No. They wouldnt. I honestly think we do need to profile people. Take a closer look at prior records or whatever. I watched my 72 year old religious granny get frisked when i was about 15 or 16, and it was mortifying for her. She was appauled that for no reason they could pick you out and feel you up.

  10. 10

Like the commenter said above I also call BS. Not only are the people who work for TSA as TSOs not under paid they have to pass a criminal background test vetted by the FBI.
Secondly last year there was a man ON CHRISTMAS that got through a machine with an underwear bomb which is why we now use the AITs. They arent connected to computers that are connected to the internet and its not like its your naked body, its an outline of your body.
As for the racial profiling of just muslims did you forget about the several hundreds of muslims that don't look like they are from the middle east? Or the people that look like they are from the middle east that aren't muslim? Or the fact that not all muslims are terrorists? Or the fact that as a terrorist its rule number one to try and blend in?

There have been a few people with blond hair and blue eyes and not middle eastern at all that want to blow up our country, eg Timothy McVey.

  11. 11

I work for TSA, I am a TSO and what is being portrayed by the media is completely false! That is all I am going to say. TSA agents are nothing but professional. We go through a battery of tests to get to that position.

  12. 12

Re: devinjes – TSA doesn't offer private screenings to assume that whoever accepts one is guilty of hiding something. Private screenings are offered to avoid things like this happening (if it did, in fact happen). When I worked there I had to do several private screenings because the female did not feel comfortable being handwanded in full view of the checkpoint. I also experienced some female passengers who were so annoyed about having to be wanded/searched that they attempted to cause a scene by trying to lift their shirt/blouse to simply "prove" that they weren't hiding anything. Another website says that the suit was filed because TSA failed to respond to the complaint. I know when people would complain about procedures, our higher ups were the ones who would go & request to view the checkpoint footage. It's possible that they did review the footage & saw that this alleged (it is alleged at this point, there's no confirmation of it having actually happend) incident did not occur how the passenger said it did.

  13. 13

people should not be complaining about security measures at airports especially now…and watch, if something bad happens they'll blame the tsa for not doing their job…get over it people

  14. 14

Re: seradeen – Let's deal with the facts. Timothy McVey blew up a building and did not use airplanes to terrorize the whole country. I'm not saying that all Muslims are terrorists either but it is a fact that all the suspected terrorists that have been apprehended in airports are either Muslims or have radical Muslim ideology. If through profiling they find a blonde blue eyed person showing up in their radar then he/she should be investigated as well. I am Asian American and have no beef with the Muslim community. Are you aware that TSA has now "enhanced" their pat down inspections inc. touching your groin, breasts and at times your "private area?" all b/c they found an underwear bomber. So how far would you let the gov't go…cavity searches if they find someone with bomb making materials inside their private parts? It only takes a gram of explosive chemicals to put a hole in a plane to make it go down which can easily be hidden up your front or backside. There has to be a better way of protecting our citizenry without infringing on their rights….personally I think these procedures only gives us a false sense of security…. I think profiling is a better way.

  15. 15

    weird elbow

  16. 16

All this shit is just so confusing, because I've read reports that it's a detailed image in the scanner and I've read reports that it's just an outlined image. Either way I feel bad for anyone who is self-conscious about themselves that they have to go through with that.

The pat down isn't going to be a pleasant experience for someone who has been raped or molested or whatever having a stranger touch them that closely. I feel that saying "if you don't like it, don't fly" is a little insensitive. No one knows what someone else has been through and no one knows how someone will react from that kind of touching. I know it's for our safety, but I'm sure it's making flying incredibly stressful for people.

Of course the TSA agents have to be trained and trustworthy, but even an agent with a spotless background check doesn't mean they are an upstanding citizen, so someone could very well be an asshole and make a comment. A lot of people with authority are scumbags, so I do believe these allegations to be true.

  17. 17

I personally wouldn't want to be frisked, however…I would rather feel slightly violated then have someone blow up the plane I am on. If you can't deal with being searched then I have a simple solution for you…don't fly. These people are professionals. You are searched by someone of your own gender and you can be screened privately if you ask. Now I would be horrified if my shirt was pulled down but I don't think it was done intentionally. I do find it strange that this woman waited TWO years to file a lawsuit especially since this is a touchy subject right now.

  18. 18

Re: DM0801 – So basically you're saying that there is no such thing as a perverted Cop or Doctor because they took an oath of decency?

  19. 19

The TSA is complete charade designed to convince Americans that sacrificing rights is the only way to ward off the bogeyman. They've never stopped a single attack. I doubt they ever will. They wouldn't be able to stop a bomb from getting onto a plane even if they stripped everyone naked.

9/11 could have been prevented by sturdy and locked cockpit doors. That's now mandatory.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

  20. 20

Re: willandgrace88 – You are a sad excuse for a human being, you don't deserve freedom, stick your head back in the sand and stfu, BTW you have to be on your knees to have your head in the sand.

  21. 21

If we put up with this invasion of privacy what will they try next? no one is above the law, TSA has no right to touch or fondle anyone and we have a right to not be xrayed. if you know anything about American History and our forefathers you should be outraged about this, and for anybody that says: "its no big deal, get over it" when you finally wake up and realize your freedoms gone it will be too late, because once you give your freedom you're gettin it back.

  22. Bree says – reply to this

    22

Youre going to have weirdos wherever you go. Reality is there are still breaks in the security so they need to crack down. I think they need to seperate men and woman when being scanned and have a member of the appropriate sex perform it instead. Why they arent doing this already is beyond me.

  23. 23

Are all of you saying 'just don't fly if you don't want to get frisked' serious? so when I want to see my family in Indonesia, I should take a boat over there from New York? REALLY?

  24. 24

Everyone using the X-ray scanners will slowly develop cancer. Radiation!

  25. 25

why is this a story we all know they are perverts begging for this job to pat down people and until a week ago children under 12.
what would you do if you saw a man or woman feeling and rubbing your kids breast area and her or his crotch.
they are pedos if they do that to a kid.
adult molesters if they are older

  26. 26

Thank goodness they're only doing this in the States, and I'm only back there once every 2 years. If they bring body scanning to Europe, I'm going to be really pissed off, because I travel a lot and don't want to be subjected to that.
I was also told by a family member who travelled last week that security lines have become at least 3 times slower.

  27. 27

Somebody is trying to get rich without having to work for it… what bullshit… and to the people who say TSA is going overboard with their screening then like others have said don't fly… I travel often and appreciate all they do to keep me and my family safe. Can you imagine your son or daughter being killed in a terrorist attack like 9/11 because the TSA didn't do everything in their power to protect your loved one… There is no way you idiots will ever take away my rights to be safe, so you better beleive I will fight to insure my family is safe on any flight they take to visit me. It is my right to be safe from our enemies… guys remember there are people out there that would love to kill us all.

  28. 28

Its our Government's job to protect our rights not take them away.
911 WAS AN INSIDE JOB, and without 911 these naked body scanners and TSA pervs would not exist and neither would Homeland secuirity, the Patriot Act and the catalyst to take more of our freedoms, it should be more than obvious just looking at the way those 3 buildings fell on 911 that a fire didn't take them down. just look at what has become of this orchestrated false flag terroist attack by our Government, when car crashes kill 400 times!!! more people than terrorist attacks in America.

  29. 29

We have actually canceled a planned vacation because I refuse to have basically naked pics of my 15 year old daughter displayed or subject her to what amounts to sexual assault. If you refuse the scanner, they DO spread the labia apart in their search etc. Their goal is to make the search so sexually offensive that everyone will opt for the scanner. No thanks. Standing by why some pedo looks at little kids naked on a screen or stand by and watch some idiot off the street with the education of someone at quickie mart sexually assault my child is NOT going to happen, not on my watch!

  30. 30

Ugh, here we go again……Flying the Friendly Skies is NOT a RIGHT, it's a PRIVILEGE……If you don't like the security policies, DRIVE YOUR CAR….I can't imagine what the my image will look like to TSA but hey it is what it is…..If this keeps Americans safe, then scan me, pat me down, feel me up…..I don't want to be blown up……There will be some personal liberties that get set aside for our safety……What language would you rather be speaking, because if we don't begin to protect ourselves, we won't be speaking English, and we will certainly not be FREE. The choice is ours to make, Choose Wisely People…..

  31. 31

I don't believe this story! If the video was made, let's see it!

  32. 32

    Re: Serena Loves Mario
OMG, I fly to Europe twice a year and it takes me hours, literally hours to get through customs and security, the lines at O'Hare, Dulles and Herndon airports, even on a BAD day are twice as fast as the lines at Heathrow, Schoenefeld, De Gaulle, and Barajas.

  33. 33

On, and who took the photo of the woman shown with this article? Right up to butt shot. Anyone else have a problem with the shot at the butt? No? Me either. But one would think her privacy is being violated. lol.

  34. 34

Re: ForeverWyld – LMFAO @ you claiming they "DO spread the labia" A passenger is NEVER nude when they're being checked. And the image on the full body xray is just a silhouette not a detailed picture.

  35. 35

Re: ForeverWyld – You are so full of crap I can't believe it. I have traveled a ton and NEVER had to deal with anything other then professional employees. I am kinda glad you don't travel….cause its pretty clear you are a complete idiot.

  36. 36

man if people dont want to be stripped searched.. and dont have anything to hide.. just walk through the full body scanning.. is it really that big of a deal?

  37. 37

Re: ForeverWyld – You clearly are moronic. You have no idea what you are talking about.. spread the labia? Omg who is brain washing you..they do not make you get naked ya weirdo. i for one am glad you dont fly… your probably one of those idiots who hold up the line because you didnt read the regulations on how many ounces of liquid you can carry.. GOOD RIDDANCE!

  38. 38

I hate it whenever I go through security and even though a woman is checking me through (b/c I'm a woman), I hate it that men are standing there and are able to watch whats going. And I can visibly see them talking amongst themselves (2 guys whsipering and look at me). I'm not trying to toot my own horn but Im not a ugly girl so I know theyre talking about me and I HATE getting checked when these GROSS security guys are standing there "checking me out". So disgusting. I just think as security, they (both Men and women) should act professionally. Not like perverts!

But I guess thats just one of the down falls (no pun intended) for flying.

And as a FYI: It was found that the TSA images of the passengers there are "supposedly deleted" are actually NOT deleted and are stored in a memory. The faces are blurry but everything else is visible.

  39. 39

wear a bra when you go to the airport, jeez.

  40. 40

The TSA agents are paid minimum wage and they could careless about what they are really hired for. The problem is the TSA!! If the terrorist's want to attack through the airports they will use the TSA to get it done. That is the bottom line. The TSA will hurt more than help I can promise you this!! My little guy will be coming to me for christmas, which means he will fly by himself, I think i will go down and fly back with him in the midst of all this madness!!!!!!!

  41. 41

Re: Sweetness24 – That is why you can request a private screening. It will be you & 2 female officers behind a curtain.

Re: PossePerezident – LMFAO! TSA agents do NOT get paid minimum wage. They're paid well above minimum wage. When I quit I was up to $13/hr & started at $10/hr. TSA officers get yearly performance reviews. Depending on how well the officer does they can get a significant raise & a cash bonus as well. So they never have paid simple minimum wage.

  42. 42

we have had body scanners in the uk for ages. not prepared to do it? dont fly. its that simple. the woman who was assaulted, however (presuming its all true) has a case as he was obviously making very uncomfortable on purpose
