Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 made an astounding $61.2 million domestically in its opening day on Friday.

And with this lead, it may beat the $102.7 million opening weekend for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005.

The film garners the fifth spot for biggest opening day, behind The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $72.7 million, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at $68.5 million, The Dark Knight at $67.2 million and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at $62 million.

The Harry Potter films have earned $5.5 billion worldwide in theatrical revenue since its debut in 2001.

Very impressive! Wonder if Part 2 will beat this!

Ha! Its awesome! Hopefully Part II will take it all!

It was a great movie. It wasso similar to the book and was exactly how I imagined the new characters and scenes. They did the 3 brothers story scene extremely cleverly and it added something new to the film. It's definitely different than the others and is much darker. 5 out of 5 for this one and I completely support the 2 part decision. From what I've heard, part 2 is going to be the action packed movie so it will be better than this one. Can't wait!!

Oh HELL YEAH! Part 2 is slated to be 500x better than this one, and this one was so awesome IDK how that is even possible! I plan on seeing this one a few more times in theatres, which we never do! Also, it goes without saying that we will ALL go see Part 2 many times! =) It will no doubt beat Twilight!

What it's awesome and also sucks is that this numbers are only in the USA. I'm pretty sure only in England they made about the same number or even more. After all the home of HP is England. I for sure want to see the damn movie again. By far is one of the best of the series, so loya to the book. The effects were awesome.

part 2 will definitely make more, since it is the ending of the story. this movie is just the beginning of the end.

I saw it yesterday and it's the best one yet. With the movie split in two they have time to be more faithful to the books. It's a shame they didn't think of that with Goblet of Fire, Order of Phoenix and Half Blood Prince.

Saw HP 7 last night and it was AWESOME!!! It's truly amazing. I don't want to spoil the ending, but it brought a tear to my eye.

    You gotta watch HP7!!!

It was brilliant. Hands down it will top 900mil and Part 2 will smash records - even people who aren't into HP want to know what will happen.

Re: Dolphinorxy – Nearly every screen in our cinema (was showing HP on it's opening day… it's that huge.

these rankings don't matter after that first opening day… the lowest (hardly low) gross a HP film has achieved was $795mil, New Moon (Twilights highest gross) managed $709… Dark night 3rd place… $1bil +
