Axl Rose Suing Guitar Hero!

| Filed under: Music MinuteLegal MattersTech Talk

The makers of Guitar Hero find themselves looking down the barrel of a hefty lawsuit as Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose is reportedly suing them for a megaload!

According to sources who have obtain legal documentation, Axl is suing Activision Blizzard Inc for over $20 million dollars for fraud, breach of contract and unjust enrichment, among others claims. Axl claims that he was never asked permission to use Welcome To The Jungle as part of Guitar Hero III and as he is the majority owner of the trademarks and licensing associated with the band, he wants his $$$.

Can't say we blame. Can't say we believe him that he wasn't asked either. Don't think a major corporation like that would make such a big boo-boo!

Axl Rose is such a…such a… I think "wanker" is the word I'm looking for here.

Not entirely true…Axl is suing because Activision promised that no advertisements for the Guitar Hero Guns N' Roses or Velvet Revolver would feature images of Slash. That was the only way he agreed to license the song. Then when it was released, it had big pictures of Slash. Check out the case No. BC450057 in LA Superior Court.

Guitar Hero 3 was released in 2007 and used that song as well as Slash's image in every promo it ran and continues to do so on the official website. Has this lawsuit been in the works since the release of the game? I mean, if something as heavily publicized as that game can be in such gross breach of contract… Did he not notice? Has he "blow"n through his cash from his last money making endevour?

Activision is the new evil empire of gaming. I would be surprised if they did it.
