Ricky Martin On Coming Out To His Parents

ricky martin speaks about coming out to parents

Once again, Ricky Martin provides us with inspiration!

Here's what Martin had to say about the easy experience he had coming out to his parents:

"[Mom] asked me, 'Baby, are you in love?' And I said, 'Yeah mom, I am in love.' And she asked me, 'Is it a man?' and I thought, 'Wow, this is gonna be easier than what I thought.' And I said, 'Yes mom, it's a man.'

"I was extremely surprised and then she said, 'Come on, give me a hug. You're my son and I love you, and I will always be here for you.' So it was very beautiful."

More from Martin:

"My father… he kinda told me. I wanted to tell him and he said, 'You don't have to say a word. I love you and I just want you to be happy.'"

We're so happy to hear about his positive experience coming out to his parents!

We hope this will inspire others to take that difficult step and open up to their parents as well.

Most parents know if their kid is gay but are just in denial… still hoping they'd change b/c even if they are loving and accepting they know he/she will be having a tougher life than most. Almost all societies in the world treat gays as second class citizens.

it's great how they supported him. I find it interesting, however, how you talked nasty and bitchy about him before he came out, and now he's your hero. Typical hypocrite.

So everyone new except he did!

  4. 4

Here's a curve ball - does anyone else see a strong resemblance between Ricky and MJ's kids?

  5. 5

Perez… you should know that not all parents are as open and loving and accepting to the idea of their son or daughter being part of the LGBT community. It shouldn't be an inspiration for those coming out… but for those parents who may have a child who is LGBT!

His parents are the inspiration. If everyone had parents like his, then coming out wouldn't be as stressful as it seems to be for most. If all parents were as loving and as accepting as his, then society would be a kinder gentler place for LGBTs.

He looks terrible. Lay off the meth pipe, Ricky.

It is so sad that this is even a story at this day and age. When you become a parent, you should not even have to think about their sexuality. It should be just the same as the color of their hair or how tall they are, you love your kids because they are your kids and you love them no matter what. I cannot imagine my kids sexuality affecting me in any way. Parent's should love their children period.

of course his parents were supportive and loving about his coming out
hes a celebrity who has a shit load of $$$$$$ Dinero….

see how loving and supportive his parents would be if he was a joe schmoe nobody……
(hopefully they would be just as supportive…. but i dont think so)

    thats so sweet!

  11. 11

Guess what, parents are the 1st to know & the last to find out.

Thanks for reading what is REAL. Now go read something worth reading.

How many times do we have to he about Ricky taking it up the butt like Kim Kardashian (watch her porno)?

  13. 13

He is over 30, has 2 kids, and is single. Difficult to find someone that has experience with kids and can balance his fame and public opinion. Relationships are like rollercoasters, but with 2 kids, it's like a never ending ride.

  14. 14

he is fortunate to have loving and understanding parents.

  15. 15

Wow he didn't tell them all these years? I hope my children are closer to me than that.

  16. 16

I don't think Ricky's parents would care if he was a turd floating in the Las Vegas Hilton's pool; he bought them a $10 million dollar mansion….

  17. 17

While I always assumed he was gay, his parents are iconic for handling it the way they did. They ought to inspire many other parents who aren't conservative to do the same.

HERE IS WHY GAYS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SERVE IN THE MILITARY: BRADLEY MANNING, THE SOLDIER WHO LEAKED TOP SECRET INFOR TO WIKILEAKS IS AN OPEN GAY

  19. 19

Who the fuck cares really? It's getting fucking old how gay people think they're special just because they are GAY. Oh sorry… congrats, you're like a billion other people on the planet. Go away Ricky Hasbeen

GOD THAT WOULD EMBARRASSING FOR A FAMILY TO HAVE A GAY KID!

Ricky is a sweetheart and I'm glad that he has good parents
    - I wish that every kid could be that lucky!

  22. 22

I have a great family. They were completely surprised when I told them at age 19. Dad was fine with it and it took my mom a while to accept but she never treated me bad. We have a great relationship.

  23. 23

You have to give Ricky Martin a lot of credit for coming out. Very admirable. I mean 80% of Hollywood is closeted. Bravo Ricky. You are so cute. Too bad you play for the other team. Sigh.

  24. 24

Hey Tom Cruise, are you listening? LOL. I mean is there one person alive who does not know TC is gay? Please!

  25. 25

I don't know. They whole world has known he's gay for years. I always thought he was out until he "officially" came out a few months ago. I was shocked simply because I had no idea he WASN'T out. And now he's a hero for finally coming out? After how many years? I can't even BEGIN to understand what it must be like, but I don't think someone who took 30-odd years to be open about his sexuality should be considered an "inspiration". Those teenagers who come out to their parents and their communities are inspirational. Not someone who took 30 years to come out.

  26. 26

LOVE RICKY MARTIN, HE IS A CLASS ACT. I GREW UP LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC, HE IS A LEGEND IN LATIN AMERICA, I AM SO PROUD OF HIM.

  27. 27

I heard he didnt speak to his father for years… does anyone know why? Still not convinced it was all sweet for him at home. In any case… I love him!
