Wicked Kills It Over Thanksgiving Holiday!

This was a HUGE week for Broadway!

Thanksgiving brought tourists to NYC and sales on the Great White Way went through the roof.

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark brought in $200,605 for its first preview performance on Sunday, but Wicked was the clear winner for the weekend. The show earned $2,150,665 this week, making it the top single-week total in Broadway history.

And every show in the top 10 pulled in over a million dollars! The Lion King ($1,870,565) broke a house record and Elf ($1,406,283) jumped up 63% from last week.

Not far behind was The Addams Family ($1,299,371), Promises, Promises ($1,077,802), Mary Poppins ($1,206,630), The Phantom of the Opera ($1,024,656) and The Merchant of Venice ($1,160,360).

Impressive. Did U go to NYC for Thankgiving?!

unfortunately, there are a whole lot of shows closing by January 2nd, THAT WERE NOT SCHEDULED TO CLOSE THEN. Shows that brought in hollywood celebrities but that do not help. I think the count is up to 5. I know the one with what's his name-george of the jungle guy- is going to be history, but it was crappy. West Side Story is closing Jan2nd with 3 others, Driving Miss Daisy later in Jan. There is a long list and while some, like-Elf, Donny and Marie(yes, they are on broadway for dec.) were only scheduled for a short run, but most of the closings were not short run shows. The Economy sucks, TD weekend was helped by all the out of town people that come in for the parade. THEY LEFT.

I saw ROCK OF AGES in NY over the Thanksgiving holiday! It was fantastic! Everyone was singing to every song since we all grew up with them…then who walked on stage but DEE SNIDER!! After the show he did a Q&A and I got to ask him…."what do you want to do with your life?"
