Royal Wedding Fever Gets Off To A Slow Start!

magazines-featuring-royal-engagement-dont-sell-well

Maybe Royal Wedding fever just hasn't hit the majority of the masses!

Despite Kate Middleton and Prince William's engagement being the cover story of People, Us Weekly, Star and OK! magazines, their sales were much lower than anticipated!

While People sold 1.3 to 1.4 million copies, Star only got 430,000, Us Weekly 620,000, and OK! 300,000 sales!

OK! Editor-In-Chief Richard Spencer explains:

"There were great predictions on how huge it was going to be, but it didn't happen."

Give it time, we say! The world needs to see more Kate before the fever sets in, and April is still months away!

We guess we just got struck down with it early! And we're certainly not complaining!

LOVE royal weddings!

it's because no one is gonna wanna buy a magazine about how elaborate and amazing their wedding is gonna be, when there are people who can't put dinner on the table cuz this economy… it's like hanging a steak in front of a poor person's face- "oh look how much money i have"

  2. 2

THAt isn't the most flattering picture

  3. 3

Well put JoeD1021, with the economy the way it is, the rats still in DC, the fact that so many are either laid off, lost their jobs, unemployment benefits running out and no hope on the horizon at this time Mario you are worried that the initial reaction is lacking for this show of power elite…damn get your priorities straight, who gives a f*ck, no doubt you will be gushing over this but then that is what you are

  4. 4

Re: JoeD1021 – Exactly, people are having a hard time in this economy and don't care to see others flaunt their wealth.

  5. 5

They do not have the charisma of Diana.

  6. 6

They're planning to spend millions of dollars on a stupid wedding when most of us are just trying to stay afloat and pay our bills. Who cares about these rich assholes? Not me! No one will ever replace Diana - having her whacked was the worst mistake the royal family ever made. And just look at Fergie - her life was ruined by them too. The royal family has lost it's sparkle, people have bigger and better things to worry about these days. I wish Kate the best - she's going to need it.

  7. 7

I completely agree JoeD1021 - and also I think that most of America just doesn't give a crap about these people. I sure don't.

  8. 8

THIS IS WHY EVERYDAY AMERICAN FEMALES DON'T CARE ABOUT PRINCE WILLIAM'S ENGAGEMENT:
The guy has been dating this girl for OVER EIGHT YEARS before he finally proposed…Umm, in America–we don't call those kind of guys a "prince". But the word does begin with a "P"…followed by RICK.
So, congrats William. You finally have the dignity to put a ring on it. Bit late for most women's taste. Besides, everyone knows its your brother that's the hottie.

  9. 9

you're talking about magazines in the US, why would they be flying off the shelves? i only skim through articles about them when they're free on the internet, i certainly wouldn't spend money to read about them. plus it's all publicist approved, controlled stories - not worth the money.

  10. 10

First they are a pretty boring couple. Second in this economy who has the time to read a magazine or the money to spend on one?

  11. 11

if you can give me just one good logical and valid reason to care about the royal wedding then just maybe i would, until then i could give to squirts about it.

  12. 12

because no one cares about their wedding, they've been dating for so long that they just aren't big news. I think if Angelina jolie and Brad Pitt were to announce their engagement it would be much bigger news, that's how boring people find prince william and kate.

  13. 13

I don't know about Britian, but we Americans couldn't give a damn.
When they are on TV, I turn the channel.

  14. 14

I'm American…I don't even think people in England give a shit.

  15. 15

Well why is anyone that surprised.. no one really knows much about her.. or cares as much.. It's nothing like the fascination of Princess Diana..

  16. 16

    Because we are Americans.

    And they aren't.

    Period.

  17. 17

    1. Why would any buy a damn magazine when they get all the info online.
    2. William and Katie really have not had a romantic, dramatic or even interesting relationship to spark interest, the way Charles and Diana did.
    3. William is ugly. Let me know when Harry decides to settle down ;)

  18. 18

Re: Unbelievable! – @ 7 - totally agreed - my bet it has more to do with American's don't give a flying fuck about the royal family……

  19. 19

Re: Jenny2 – don't speak for all American woman - I've been with my man for over 7 years and have no problem with no proposal yet. Also, Harry's worse off than William…………

  20. 20

Two boring people finally decide to get married after she desperately hung on for 8 whole years…. And he's going bald already:-D

  21. 21

    Re: April 20th
Girl, you been with the same guy for 7yrs and he hasn't popped the question?…umm, once again those kind of guys are NOT a "prince". Glad YOU have no problem with it. But the majority of women believe "if they like it then they should put a ring on it". Granted marriage shouldn't be rushed into–but EIGHT years for Kate & William and SEVEN years for you–what's to celebrate when you get engaged? The guy realized after screwing you a few hundred times that he mine as well marry ya—that is NOT romance, or love.

P.s.–You want to know how I know that my guy loves me?–he stood up 13yrs ago in front of our friends & family and swore to be my husband…and he didn't take 7 or 8yrs to do it. He said he knew immediately, he only waited to save up for the ring. :)

  22. 22

Really who cares?? They are on the cover of every magazine and are flaunting the fact that they have an obscene amount of money to blow on a wedding. If they want to do something special donate the money to others who need help for a wedding. Im already sick of seeing their faces everywhere, do us a favour run away and get married with no cameras!

  23. 23

First off nowadays why are they even royal? 2nd most people don't buy magazines or you would be out of business. Third Brad & Angie are about as close to royal as it gets & they are from the states, (not that I buy everyone they are spouting.) Lastly most people do not get married anymore, and that is even true of the royals especially after what happened with William's mother, look at how long it took William to propose to Kate? So why should anyone buy these dumb magazines at all?

  24. 24

Re: Jenny2 – sweetheart, fuck a "prince", I have a "King" and he doesn't need to proclaim his love for me in front of our entire family - or anyone else for that matter. After 7 or 8 years of being together, that's exactly what the celebration of engagement is about. Celebrating an engagement after 2 people have been together for 6 months or a year is fake - and everyone at the engagement party makes bets on when the divorce papers will be filed. You know how I know my boyfriend of 7 years loves me? He shows it with his actions, not speaking it with his words. Marriage is just a piece of paper and a ring anyway - you act like once that rings on the finger, the love increases………..

  25. 25

Re: caroaber – well not everyone is as stupid and insular as you, stop trying to talk for your entire country

  26. 26

I live in England, and I'm not a monarchist by any stretch of the imagination, but I think the long wait is a good thing. Prolly William, coming from a broken home, knows what happens when people get married without knowing each other.
Getting engaged and married fast is not a good thing, and maybe thats why more than half the marriages in the USA end in a divorce.

Wills will be a good king, because he's been groomed to be one- Calm, collected, intellectual, relatively humble and pleasant. A soldier, a warrior and everything everyone loves.

Yes, they're not flamboyant. But you know what? Flamboyant people are full of drama and shit and instability.

  27. 27

why would we give money to the trash mags and paparazzi that killed his mother?

  28. 28

BECAUSE IT'S ALL BULLSHIT SPECULATION. THE CEREMONY AND HER DRESS WILL BE INTERESTING BUT BEFORE THAT IT'S NOT LIKE YOU PEONS ARE GOING TO HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT'S UP.

  29. 29

Re: Jenny2 – LOL So true. People are struggling Who gives a flying.

  30. 30

Re: April 20th – Sorry but Jenny is right. You'll understand when…if…he ever decides he adores you enough to ask you to be his wife. Yes, the love does increase when you marry someone. There's a reason gays fight for the right to marry — there is something distinctly beautiful about a happy marriage. It's NOT just a piece of paper. People just tell themselves that when they can't get their significant other's to settle down with them…to make themselves feel better. Sorry to be blunt…but it's true. After a couple of years…either fish or cut bait…trust me, people talk A LOT more about what is wrong with a couple who never marries than a couple who marries after a year. You'd be surprised!

  31. 31

A British perspective: we are living in a time of austerity and are constantly reminded of this; however, we are supposed to be please about a big royal wedding? What truly bothers the people I know is that we are very aware that the UK taxpayer will be paying for it.

  32. 32

Re: jennycakes – I agree - they're trying to compare it to the drama and media frenzy that surrounded Charles and Diana's wedding and it's just SO not the same…

  33. 33

sorry but they need to stop trying to make her into the next diana
its just not going to work
in fact its backlashing and less people are interested in having her stuffed down their throats

  34. 34

That's because nobody really cares, they are sick of the media coverage and they don't want to have to pay out more than £80 million for a wedding for a couple of people they don't know when they have huge bills to cover at home - you guys in America get more excited about the royal family than the Brits…I have no idea why…we would be happy to swap them for George Clooney and Keanu Reeves

  35. 35

Re: Kitty369 – They aren't paying for it - the British are paying for it with their taxes - and they don't have a choice

  36. 36

A lot of people aren't in the mood to see overprivileged people living the 'good life' while a lot of people are stuggling. People like Kate and William don't have to worry about the problems and burdens a lot of people are dealing with nowdays with the down economy, unemployment, etc. I don't really know them, but they look like they are pretty carefree. I hope they realize how lucky they are and how good they've got it.

  37. 37

On the surface, these people appear like they have everything a lot of people want in life - looks, money, fame, but I wouldn't want to be under the microscope and pressure they'll be under. Princess Diana said herself that it's not all it's cracked up to be. I believe her. On the surface, it may all look great, but what's beyond the surface?
