Inspired choices! We completely agree!

There's been a lot of talk about the possibility of film reboot of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series, and the author recently addressed the issue herself, and even suggested that SEKSI actor Matt Boner Bomer take on the role of Louis, originally played by Brad Pitt in Interview With The Vampire!

She says:

"Louis, right now, he could be portrayed easily by Richard Armitage or Matt Bomer. Matt Bomer is a beautiful, beautiful guy. He could play Louis."

And despite his age, she also seems to have her heart set on Robert Downey, Jr. for the part of Lestat!

She continues:

"That would be wonderful. He is a great actor. He would bring the gravitas and the wit and humor and all of that to the part, and I don't think he's too old. I think if he had a blond wig and makeup, he would be a wonderful Lestat."

Oh, man! Inspired choices! We'd LOVE to see these two take on the roles!

Make it happen, bb! We need some REAL vampires back on the silver screen, and ASAP!

What do U think?? Do U agree with Rice's casting selections??

Not sure why they are remaking this movie, but I would have loved to see Christian Bale as Lestat.

    Re: rosebud99
I dont think they are remaking Interview, there were several books in the series. Queen of the Damned being one of them as well (Remember Alliyah was in it)

    I love Anne Rice!

And I agree Christian Bale would make an amazing Lestat and the wig would be more believable as well.

  3. 3

Oh will you stop with the stupid bb shit already?

  4. 4

Seriously! They are going to make the same mistake twice. Lestat de Lioncourt is supposed to be 6'0", Blond, and 20-year-old!!! R.D.J might be a tremendous actor, but I would like to see someone who actually fits the bill this time. If anything, I agree with Rosebud99, Christian Bale would be a good call. But, not as Lestat, Louis would be a much better fit. Keep Matt Bomer, just make him Lestat instead. His features are closer to the description in the books. Besides, Bale does broody best. Bale-Louis, Lestat-Matt.

They shouldn't remake anything until the actors from the 1st one are grey or dead…sheesh. Besides I was thinking this meant they were going to do some of the other books int he series not remake Interview. Besides remember Lestat is a major driving force in those Chronicles. She was probably talking about one of the other books I think. Too bad they can't bring back Brad Pitt to do any of the roles. Tom Cruise I can do without these days.

Actually I agree with Anne's choices! Also, I think Christan Bale would work out good as well…I've loved him since "Little Women" AND "American Psycho".

I love The Vampire Chronicles! I wonder what book they are going to turn into a film. It sounds like they are going to redo 'Interview with the Vampire' based on the characters. Maybe it could be 'The Tale of Body Thief.'

  8. 8

as long as its better than the last two movies that were made. those things were just offensive and completely butchered the stories.

I was a huge Anne Rice fan, and I hated the Brat Pitt movie (those guys were SO stiff! Awful acting…) But, these are roles for young guys.. forgodsakes they were "turned" young, and vampires don't age! Robert Downey, Jr. is a wonderful actor, but he IS TOO OLD for this role. They would have to do some major special effects to make him look twenty-something. Anne Rice is SO old herself, that she has lost perspective on age-related matters…

I thought the first movie was casted wrong. Tom Cruise should of been Louis and Brad Pitt should of been Lestat. Matt Bomer is a good choice for Louis and Lestat, but im not sure about Robert Downey.

  11. 11

WHAT?! Why are they remaking it? The original is PERFECT! No one can top Brad Pitt and Tom Cruz… and DEFINITLY noone could top Kirten Dunst as Claudia. Her preformance was absolutely astounding.. WHY are they remaking it? If anything they should remake that pathetic loosly based on the book Queen of the Damned movie. I'm discusted by this.

  12. 12

I think I just had a fangasm, even if I have trouble imagining RDJ in a blond wig.

I think Robert Downey is an amazing actor, but not right for the role physically. For Lestat, I think Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, or Rupert Friend would be better choices. From what I remember reading the books, Lestat was 6 feet tall, blond with blue eyes. Any actor can be made to look 6 ft. tall on screen, but Robert would not look right as a blond.

I imagine Robert Downey more as Armand rather than Lestat, maybe someone like Channing Tatum or the guy who is playing Captain America forgot his name to play Lestat.

  15. 15

Matt Bomer is perfect for that role… maybe they need someone younger than Robert!

  16. 16

Anne Rice has neglected her vampires for FAR too long - welcome back!!!!

  17. 17

I hope this goes thru but they shouldn't even THINK of remaking Interview with the Vampire. They should completely forget about that awful Queen of the Damned movie and go right into Memnoch the Devil!
I'm glad Anne came back to the dark side!!

  18. 18

Re: chunkeh – Interview with a Vampire was pretty close to the book.
Queen of the damned was just a joke! they did mix in a couple books but they didn't execute it properly. it pretty much sucked!

  19. 19

    Re: viperbitex
she wan't to make some of the books in her Vampire chronicles into films, she's not planing to remake Interview with the Vampire. There are tons of book in the Vampire Chronicles. Memnoch the Devil being one of my favorite. :)

    Re: Eris
OH DEAR GOD NO MEATHEAD WILL EVER PLAY AN ANNE RICE VAMPIRE! She knows better than that.

  21. 21

Re: fiera – I thought the blond hair in Tropic Thunder looked mighy awesome on him, even though I'm not a fan of blonde hair. And I agree with many of the 'too old' and 'in the book they're like 20' comments, but these are suggestions made by the author herself… if anyone would know, it would be Rice.

  22. 22

Bomer would be an amazing choice.

  23. 23

Matt Bomer needs to be in a huge movie!

  24. 24

I love that she mentioned Richard Armitage. I'd love to see him as Louis. I'm Team Richard Armitage.

  25. 25

That reboot term for a remake is annoying. Stop saying that. Please.

  26. 26

Didn't she go all Born Again Christian and that's why she stopped writing the vampire books? This is obviously a cash grab on her part. Forget it, she lost me when she became a religious nut.

  27. 27

They are not talking about remaking Interview With The Vampire; which is a classic. They are talking about rebooting the Vampire Chronicles thus doing more movies of the series. Personally I think RDJ is a horrible choice for playing Lestat. He is too old and physically looks nothing like him! I think Kyle Schmid (Blood Ties) or Chris Pine are better choices. Matt Bomer would make a wonderful Louis. Anne has expressed that the actor from The Wild Things she envisions as Armand. Armand was only 17 years old when he was turned. RDJ would be good as Marius. In addition, I think Anthony Hopkins would be the perfect fit for the role of David Talbot, Michelle Pheiffer as Gabrielle, Penelope Cruz as Pandora and Esla Fisher and Amy Adams as Maharet and Mekere.

  28. 28

While RDJ is my favorite actor, he is nowhere near the right fit for Lestat, who not only is much much younger, but is also suppossed to be more handsome then anyone ever. Maybe Ian summerholden, or bring back Stewart Townsend who was so hot in that role. Or here's a crazy idea find a new fresh gorgeous face for the role, Im tired of the same old faces being recycled, we need new blood! no pun intended.

  29. 29

i STILL get chills when remembering the scene in Interview after he's tranformed into a vampire and the way the statue looks through his vampire eyes, when it is just so subtley breathing and looking back at hime…fricking brilliant scene!

  30. 30

I think the vampire ship has sailed

  31. 31

Matt Bomer would be phenomenal as Louis. But then again, he can read the phone book and I will still watch. On the other hand, RDJ is a good actor too, but would be a disaster of epic proportions if cast as Lestat, especially in a blond wig.

  32. 32

Liam Hemsworth as Louis and Bomer as Lestat

  33. 33

can we please stop with the vampire movies?

  34. 34

I think its epic that they're making another anne rice novel a movie.
I don't agree with robert downey jnr playing lestat though. i just believe he will destroy the character like he destroyed sherlock holmes. lestat in the book is supposed to be very young, like a rockstar sort of dude. and i'm sorry robert downy jrn is not hot

  35. 35

lololol if u dudes are reading the article right, they're going to make one of the other books duh, its not a remake lolololol

  36. 36

Now I'm in the mood to watch 'Interview With a Vampire'.

  37. 37

I think Downey is too old!!!!! Why not use Alexander Skarsgard he fits the profile perfectly, and I wouldn't mind seeing him and Matt Bomer make out, that would be hot!

I also think they should decide on a trilogy right away (using the same actors in all films), and not start with Interview but with Lestat instead. Interview could be film no. 2 and finish with Queen (which really needs a remake, it was awful).
