that's actually really awesome. it must be so good for the environment. if everyone could take some of these principles and apply them to their own life, climate change wouldn't be such an issue! kudos to this mother and her son for making it work.

Anyone needing a home could live in this house.

i think it's bad ass… less is more. never fall for the illusion that you need lots of big things to be happy.

  5. 5

Did she just say $500,000? I think something was seriously lost in translation. ¥100= $1, which makes me think it was $5,000. That sounds a lot better.

I think you're being pretty harsh to say living in this space is a bad thing. Im sure many people would be happy living in this home, no matter where they are from. Its smart design, in amazing condition, and clean/environmentally efficient. Many US citizens could be living in much worse. Japan and many other asian countries are setting new living standards with these micro homes. It is actually becoming pretty popular around the world. So please don't say this space is a bad place to live and that these people could do better, can't you tell they are happy in it?

how is this new? Asians have always lived this way.

I love it!!! It has everything you could need without wasting an inch of space. I would absolutely live in one of these mini-homes… but only if I was single :) The Japanese really have city-dwelling figured out– we could learn a lot from their sense of practicality. If this economy keeps up (which it will), I could definitely see these in our future.

You can read the original post of this on the DailyMail where Mario steals almost all his stories from these days.

    Mario/Perez = FAIL!!

    well they could be homeless

Personally, I think this home is awesome, I just wouldn't live with my parents lol. The homes we are used to can be a little too big if you ask me. I would love for this architect to come build me a cute 'lil home. ^_^

Hope these 2 don't release a sex tape!

  13. 13

I'm not sure what's more shocking… the size of the house… or a 39-year old living with his mom

  15. 15

The commentary is unnecessary condescending and mocking. These people have made the best of their situation and their home is beautiful.

  16. 16

    Hope nobody farts!

  17. 17

It's a nice space and very minimal, but so expensive! $500,000! YIKES!

  18. 18

I like it, but sharing with my mother…definitely not. I was just telling a friend about tiny homes. People collect too much stuff and then pay storage for years on things they never use again. What a waste.

I love it! It's so efficient and well designed. It has plenty of really thoughtful useful storage. I hope this catches on in North America.

They need a couple of Great Danes.

I paid £540,000 Pounds for my flat in London. When this was purchased it was the equivalent to $1,100,000 US Dollars. It is a one bedroom, 76m2 = (818 Sq Ft). This is what it costs to live in most developed urban areas..Location, location, location

  22. 22

the real question should be, what is a 39 year old guy still doing living at home with his mom?

Re: fuckyouperez – LOL. too funny!!

  24. 24

That would be good for me i would love to live there

  25. 25

IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING ARCHITECTURE. PEPO WHO DONT SEE THAT ARE IDIOTS.

  26. 26

Asians have always lived like this…why is this even being reported right now

  27. 27

    Re: Sarah Lasater – Agreed!

  28. 28

Re: fuckyouperez – Or Newfoundlanders, they drool a lot.

But on a serious note, that is great architecture.

  29. 29

The Japanese are freaks. Koreans too. Bi-polar all of them. The Japanese like to be depressed and torture themselves. They're either committing suicide in groups or they're squeezing into homes like this. Get a grip people!

  30. 30

did you not know that apartments in japan especially tokyo are tiny?

  31. 31

I'd totally live there, but not with my mum. Fuck that.

  32. 32

Re: jjohn – oh braggy pants, shush now!!

  33. 33

    I like it! Its cute@

  34. 34

Re: jlenoconel – Only if she'd put up with my incessant weed smoking in the house…

  35. 35

I started to panic from just watching the video. There's no way I could live in such cramped space…I would rather be homeless then be in such tight space…and I'm really not trying to be a jerk but really I couldn't do it…

Re: djnv2009 – Bragging? Not my intention at all. I was actually hoping for some sympathy! LOL. There is no pride in purchasing a flat the size of a shoe box. Almost 40% of my salary goes to paying my mortgage. It is the price you pay to live in London, Japan, Moscow, Oslo, New York… I am not bragging..it is the status quo. The average house price in Kensington and Chelsea is £1,272,398…I am poor in comparison.

  37. 37

i love it!! i wish i could live in a house like that, but ALONE, not with my mom. but i think its cozy, all you need. but 500k, doubt it cost that much, maybe 500,000 yen
