Dream Act Passed In House, Moves To Senate

dream act passes in house of reps moves to senate

We really hope this passes!

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the Dream Act, which would offer "a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the country when they were children."

Now, the bill moves on to the Senate for their vote.

Here's what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had to say about it:

"This is about a commitment to our future. It's about a recognition of what these young people can mean for our country."

Looks like the Senate vote will happen sooner than later…possibly as early as Friday morning, where they'll need a "filibuster-proof majority" of at least 60 votes.

Here's what Oakland, CA Rep. Barbara Lee had to say about it:

"It's the right thing to do for these young people. Shall we further punish these 800,000 young people with deportation or by keeping them in legal limbo, or should we allow these highly motivated youth to attend colleges and become productive members of our society? The answer should really be quite obvious."

We totally agree, Barbara!

Come on, Senate! Make it a filibuster-proof one! You can do it!

Do U support the Dream Act?

yes i also think that a child brought here as an infant, raised as a full blow american, bad attitude, glutinous consumerism, and total ill regard for how fortunate they are to live in an uncorrupted democracy, and all should be deported. i had this kid in my chem class in high school,, total genies, super smart, and sweet. never drank or went to parties cause if he was busted his ass would be back in brazil faster then you can say illegal alien. well he got deported, and now he lives in the middle of nowhere in brazil, in some farmhouse w/ a distant aunt that wants him to get a job and leave. i feel so bad for him, before i knew him i was a over privileged American elitist that would have never even known what was going on on the news, or w/ our govn, just like ALL your kids. tell me who deserves to be in the U. S with a bright future, your mac owning ipod listening straight B student(and yes Bs are pathetic, we are seriously lagging in education compared to other countries, this time the communist really are smarter then us) or that kid. i honestly cant say i would trade spots with him, so im not a better person then anyone els, but at leas im not being an asshole about a bill that doesnt even effect you're daily life greatly(or at all). the only excuse i can thik of opposing this bill is being afraid of the competition, face it, they are smarter, and WAY more hard working(9-5 is what 5-9 yr olds work in their country)

I have an idea. Maybe ACORN can be the new watchdog oversight agency, that ensures these new laws for the illegals path to citizenship, are adhered to.
    What a klusterfuck that'll be!

    Breaking news:
    -
Palin going to Haiti with Franklin Graham this weekend.
Doesn't Palin need some black person's permission to do this?
    -
She's definitely running for POTUS, with Rep. Paul Ryan of WI as her V.P. She endorsed his economic roadmap today, to get us out of the shitter.
Many or our RINO's hate Ryan, so we know, he's a good guy to have on board. Palin/Ryan will create havoc with the Republican Party, that's for sure.
    -
You combine fiscal conservatism (Ryan) with social conservatism (Palin) and bring in Alan West as a special advisor on national security and foreign affairs you have the three legs of the stool and sure-fired formula to get 60% of the WHITE vote in 2012 that will send Obama to a world tour of greatest golf courses, hosted by OJ.

Wow. So much hatred. You all have no idea. Its not fair. Apparently to all of you i dont belong and am not accepted anywhere. I had a 4.2 GPA in high school and I'm maintaining a 3.9 in college but i cant do anything with it because of my status. It hurts to try so hard and not get the recognition for it while there's so many lazy people out there who don't take advantage of their opportunities. I have no opportunities. All of your words hurt me terribly. But we will show everyone that we will succeed despite the lack of support from our "fellow man".

    To all you bigoted bastards…
Don't pass on your ugly traits to your children. Your parents have obviously already ruined you.

The dream act provides a way for the young people that do not know any other country but this one to become citizens by either going to college or joining the military and serving a country that most natural born citizens wont do. It is not by any means a free pass. So please learn your facts. The majority of you only say ignorant things like "oh it lets them get papers" No! I will become a citizen soon and I hope you don't like it. =) It's not like I made the choice to come to this country. When we did get here, we applied for citizenship immediately! 16 years ago. I am almost 20 years old and I am much more educated than most of you Americans who have your documents. I damn well have earned my place here. If you disagree, well, I don't really give it two fucks!

Re: …disappointed – I understand you. It's hard and the put downs don't make this easier. It's people like us though, that make the fight easier and makes us stronger. I've been turned down by the military and all they can say is that it is the stupidest rule to not let immigrants enlist. Whatever, we're going to make it! the time for us is soon!

Re: …disappointed – Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but how do you have a 4.2 GPA?? I thought a 4.0 was the highest.

Re: Squirrel – Probably AP classes in high school. They weight higher than regular classes.

  10. 110

Re: ka.06 – Makes sense. I'm an old-timer. We didn't have that when I was in high school.

  11. 111

    Re: supersongbird – Let me get this straight . . . .
We're going to be "gifted" with a health care
plan we are forced to purchase and
    fined if we don't,
    Which purportedly covers at least
    ten million more people,
without adding a single new doctor,
but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents,
written by a committee whose chairman
    says he doesn't understand it,
passed by a Congress that didn't read it but
    exempted themselves from it,
and signed by a President who smokes,
with funding administered by a treasury chief who
    didn't pay his taxes,
for which we'll be taxed for four years before any
    benefits take effect,
    by a government which has
already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general
    who is obese,
and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
    'What the hell could
    possibly go wrong?'

  12. 112

Re: manymoms – Health care is not a "gift" it is a human right.
I'm not afraid to say it either-I want the same health care system people enjoy in Canada, Australia and Europe for all Americans. This tea party's answer to health care especially for the poor, and more so for the poor minorities is fuck you, you leech. If you can not pay then drop dead in the street.
Look up what is going on in Arizona!!
This despicable "only my ass matters" attitude your team exhibits proudly is not acceptable to me as an American.

  13. 113

Re: manymoms – Let me ask you-what do YOU have for health care? I have yet to hear of any tea baggers rejecting their Medicare, Medicaid or ANY government entitlement.
It is of the most utmost hypocrisy that what you refer to as "Obamacare" is a Republican health care plan that was never passed. In fact the very same one they put up against Hillarycare in the 90s. And the misinformed right have the audacity to refer to the first president-in a line of many who during their campaign vowed to reform health care- actually did so -as a "Marxist" and a "Nazi".
If Mitt Romney wins the nomination he's got your vote in 2012- RIGHT?
You should be ashamed of yourself for being so blatantly misinformed!

  14. 114

Re: manymoms – Btw you smell like the ripest mouse. You know what I mean. I think I'm right and you know I'll find out for sure as always. You fool no one!

  15. 115

Re: luvs2tango – Post 100-Um I cannot predict what will happen in the next two years so neither can you. Your kind can hang on but only for so long and you know it. Each generation is more evolved and accepting of their fellow man.
Judging by your posts you truly are a delusional, selfish hateful old woman. Rush Limbaugh is a disgusting racist pig and that is exactly what you come up in here with. You are like a deranged parrot on his shoulder.
Hate has a way of staring back at you in the mirror. You should pay that some attention. Because what goes around comes around.
    -
    Remember-
You have no facts you are merely a victim of your own fanatic imagination.
    -
Now-I'm going ice skating. I'll tune back in at my earliest convenience to see what's doing with you tea baggers as it is somewhat amusing to me. :)

    Re: …disappointed
    Too bad so sad.

  17. 117

    Re: doritozzz

Why the hell do you have genies in your chem class? Our immigrant laws must REALLY be getting lax.

I suppose your whole post really is proof of our sub-par educational system.

  18. 118

    Re: …disappointed

If this is because you're illegal, blame your parents, not us.

  19. 119

Re: KDIZZLL – Where did you get that idea?? It can take up to 10 years for an illegal immigrant to be deported in the Netherlands! As for this topic.. it's targeted at young people, children who came to the US and who probably can't even remember the big move. Deporting them now would be, as Lee said, punishment even though they technically didn't do anything wrong.

  20. 120

Re: Really?!867 – Ah, but that's the sad thing, most people don't read the bill. If it's more than 4 pages long, loads of people are more inclined to find a summary! They only hear "illegal immigrants allowed to stay' and go apeshit. In short, for an illegal immigrant to become an American citizen they have to work hard, show their worth and do it on their own. It's only a 'dream' act for those who are willing to attribute to society. If you're a lazy git this act won't get you anywhere.

  21. 121

Before people run their mouths and spread hate, they should understand these youths have every intention of going to college and having a career, not just settle with a job they hate, which many people do.

I am for the DREAM act because it will bring success to our country which is ultimately what we need. Honestly, I'd rather legalize an illegal immigrant who wants to go to college than have white trash who live in the projects and collect welfare. And for the idiots who will argue with me and say illegal immigrants take from the government, for your info. They don't! They can't collect anything since they're illegal which means no welfare, no health insurance, nothing. Im not saying that they should get this in case the idiots misinterpret what I mean.

  22. 122

Re: Really?!867 – Thank you posting the info. I found out about this act in college during a student's presentation. A lot of people are misinformed and don't know that its not just anybody who can become legalized. Hence, the name DREAM, people don't know or understand it's about helping youths who want to become citizens so they could go to college or the military to learn and fulfill their dreams.

  23. 123

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – you do realize you are on a cuban's website, right? Lol you are so sad. You must really hate your life or somebody fucked you over BIG time! I'm Hispanic going for my masters degree at Simmons College, and about to buy a home. This must make you very angry! Ha!

Latinos, keep your head up and keep moving towards success! :-)

  24. 124

Re: Sweetness24 – Its unfortunate that so many Hispanics can't say the same. If you look at the percentages, it's astounding. You're fellows give you a bad name, its not like the people against immigration are making information up, these are the facts. Were you givin a scholarship of any kind just for being Hispanic? Because I'm sure my kids won't be offered any scholarships for being caucasian, because oh yeah, they don't exist. That would be racist to have any for white's only scholarships. How much of your family pays their share of the Country's taxes? I'd like to see them come up with an Act that helps white people who were born in this Country only, I'm sure that will go over REAL well.

  25. 125

Some of you make such a big deal about things. Illegals mainly do the jobs no one else want. They don't get food stamps or government help because they're scared of the government. I'm tired of all these people who just have to hate someone. If it's not illegals, it's gay people, and if it's not gay people it's muslims and if it's not muslims it's jo' momma. All that hate towards others just reflects how much you probably hate yourself.

and no, I don't support illegal immigration, I just don't go all psycho shit like you all.

  26. 126

I could argue my point till I lost my voice and my fingers fall off from typing, but it's useless. It's almost impossible to make people who have every opportunity to succeed in their hands, understand that we have to actually fight for them. I cant remember a single thing that was giving to me without me deserving and earning it in my 18 years of life. yet, I'm making the best of what I have and try to help others as I go on.

  27. 127

Re: April 20th – my mom (shes a lawyer) says that unfortunately these types of appeals take DECADES to present to a court and its not even a for sure thing that there case will be approved (i think if ur not aproved u can appeal again but u have to go to back of the line) its actually quite sad i real so bad for these ppl . alot of ppl r uneducated about this subject n just assume its some easy shit.

  28. 128

Re: Sweetness24 – DREAM is an acronym, idiot. "Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act". In other words, a STUPID idea. The word "alien" should give everyone enough reason to shut it down.
