Tragedy At Burger King

man killed by detroit burger king employee

This is truly upsetting!

At a Detroit Burger King, a 20-year-old employee got in an argument with a 67-year-old customer, and punched him, which later resulted in his death.

According to Police spokeswoman Yvette Walker, the customer tried to hit the employee first, but the employee hit back…hard.

Reports say that the punch might have caused the man to choke on his dentures.

The 67-year-old man died at a hospital, following the incident. An autopsy will be performed to identify the exact cause of death.

We cannot express enough how sad and disturbing this is!

Our thoughts go out to the BK customer's friends and family.

dont throw a punch without expecting to get the same response in kind! only pity i have is that its a lesson the old man won't be able to really learn from now that he's dead.

  2. 2

    Drama at Burger King?

  3. 3

What is it with all these craziness at fast food places? Not only is the food bad for you but it seems just being in the building can be life-threatening too!

  4. 4

People who work in customer service have to put up with a lot of crap. I work in retail and I know there will come a day when I will snap.

I do have to wonder though what the problem was though that was SO BAD at Burger King the customer felt like he needed to punch someone.

  5. 5

    Talk about a Whopper!

  6. 6

I don't care who you are or haw old you are. If you take the first swing, you get whatever is coming to you.

    Karma got him.

  8. 8

If the old man threw the first punch, then he is at fault. I hope the worker doesn't have ridiculous legal ramifications. Why am I always completely disagreeing with your opinions, Perez? You're an idiot, that's why.

  9. 9

Um if the police say the other guy punched him first, this was self-defense. You twist facts.

HAHAHAHA! Hold the pickles hold the lettuce special orders won't upset us - NOT.

  11. 11

lol, sounds like he should have kept his fat mouth shut

  12. 12

If only Perez was wearing dentures in Toronto that time….

  13. 13

wouldn't this be considered self defense?????

and if not, so it is o.k to hit or get physical with anyone as long as you are over a certain age. Age discrimination?

  14. 14

Guys…it happened in Detroit. End of debate.

  17. 17

Karma. I worked in the food industry for about 7 years. A man threw a soda at me once for no reason and I quickly responded by chucking an entire tray with two slices of pizza and a large soda at him, doused him all over. Yes I was only 16 when it happened but the best part was my GM and DM were there and I kept my job. TRUE story. People in retail/fast food take way too much crap from customers, and this ought to be a warning not to mess with people who plate your food or take your order. Ya could choke on your dentures! =)

  18. 18

Ten to one they were black.

  19. 19

Re: DANNYGLOVERSDICKBLOOD – your an idiot.

a 20 year should have the respect to not hit a CUSTOMER or an older man.

he should have called the police. your generation doesn't know a thing about respecting its elders…maybe the guy had alheimers….did you stop to think that he might have had dimentia? dumbass

  20. 20

    Customers suck.

  21. 21

I think Americans are a little edgy as of late because of the economy and Government intervention.

  22. 22

The employee was just doing his job, serving many customers each day and then this rude old man comes in and takes a swing at him. You know the family will sue, but they'll go after Burger King where the money is. Hopefully, it will get thrown out of court as it sounds like it's self-defense.

  23. 23

IT'S NATURAL REACTION TO DEFEND ONESELF AND HIT BACK. THAT'S SELF DEFENSE MECHANISM IN HUMANS AND ANIMALS. LIKE, DONT HIT A GUARD DOG AND NOT EXPECT FOR IT TO LUNGE BACK AND BITE UR FUCKING HEAD OFF. SAME DEAL. HOWEVER, THE KID SHUD HAVE CALLED THE MANAGER ONCE THE OLD FART START TO GET PHYSICAL. AT LEAST THAT WOULD HAVE GOT THE KID OFF THE HOOK AT THAT POINT.

  24. 24

I cant say he deserved to die, but if I was that employee I sure as sh*t would've swung at him also.

  25. 25

ha aha ha good for the 20 yr old man , i bet the old bag was looking for it , i bet he was a dick and he got what he deserve and more .

  26. 26

You can't assault a customer! did the 67 year old man try to push the employee? not acceptable but you don't attack him back….you can use reasonable force to defend yourself IF your life is in jeopardy…this was not the case…employee is going down. That is excess force. 67 year old man's family has a lawsuit pending.

  27. 27

To everyone who works in retail and backs the employee: AWESOME. I also work in retail. I work for a low-end chain — before you say Walmart, we are lower on the food pyramid — and every single day our customer base treats like personal shoppers, personal assistants and worst of all, trash. Departments are ripped apart like it's a salvage yard. We are snapped at for delayed shipments of advertised items. A lot of American consumers will get what is coming to them when they don't treat retail workers of ALL types with any amount of respect. I have YET to ever see an employee terminated for mistreating a customer, though I have worked for several companies and have seen many formal complaints filed. They are tossed aside and the customer gets a $20 gift card from corporate. I once had one filed on myself because I refused to load an able-bodied 30 year old woman's purchases into her BMW SUV. We are not a Gucci boutique. Your $3 cereal fits nicely into a bag with handles for your convenience. Your bitching gets you nowhere and nobody really gets in trouble. Treat people with respect whether they make $8 an hour or $80K a year. They're not just there to serve your endless needs, most of us have huge job descriptions that do not include "slave".

  28. 28

Is there some type of a special "Ingredient" being use at those fast food chains? what the hell is in the grease that make ppl go insane and become ufc fighters.

  29. 29

Why doesn't your faults go out to the 20 year old Employee?

He/she is the one that was just trying to do their job when some grumpy old man comes and hits them!
I'm sorry but if you throw the first punch then whatever happens after that is your own fault!
Let's hope the law does not go after this young kid!

  30. 30

    Re: kathie!
Did you even read the fucking post? The old guy didn't "push" the employee. He tried to PUNCH him. So the employee PUNCHED him back. He was, in fact, defending himself. A punch back is not excessive force. A punch for a punch is reasonable. It is just a stroke of back luck that the dude's dentures slipped. God, I hate stupid people.

I work in customer service and I have wanted to punch so many people. But I don't. But if by golly one of them swung at me I would for sure would swing back.

Re: Manda756 – Self-defense….really?? What kind of self-defense is it to punch a senior citizen so hard he DIES? I don't care if the older man threw the first punch. That's where CLASS should have entered the picture in the form of the 20-yr-old walking away and bringing in a manager.

  32. ohboy says – reply to this

    32

PS the ME's office said the man died from "blunt force trauma to the head." For all of you out there wanting to "get some" against rude customers, is being prosecuted for murder in that package?

    33

what is not being realized is that this is detroit. things like this happen here all the time. don't report on one detroit story because you think it's sad. why don't you raise awareness on the severity this city is facing. it's only a matter of time that this becomes a desolate ghost town of a city. second, the news around here (detroit) are reporting that he did not in fact choke on his dentures; rather, he suffered blunt force trauma from the fall to the floor after being punched.

  34. 34

Re: YRUFATT – If the 67 year old had some form of dimentia i SERIOUSLY doubt he was out alone, and if he did and he was, then his family members should be held responsible for not taking better care of him.

Just because the man is elderly does NOT mean he automatically deserves respect. Being old does not give you a free pass to be an asshole. I bet the 20 year old and/or burger king are about to be sued by his family. It's a shame, because the kid certainly was not aiming to force the old mans dentures down his throat and kill him.

  35. 35

    Re: ohboy

Where did you find that information? The autopsy should take about a week, and this seems like a story that happened today.

  36. 36

The funny thing is, if they even try to sue the kid, they're not going to get anything.

    20 years old
    From Detroit

HE'S BROKE. lol. It was self defense, I agree with that. A lot of old people walk around like every young person is their personal servant, with their asshole attitudes and then pull shit like this. It was a freak accident and it's sad, but you don't put your hand on a stove and expect not to get burned. Punch someone, and expect a punch back.

    There's nothing

  37. 37

There's a giant counter. The guy had to take a half step to avoid the guy and another step… seems weird unless a near 70 yr old jumped over the counter and was swinging non stop. Sounds fishy. Hope the guy enjoys his time in prison

  38. 38

Did you really say, "Our thoughts go out to the BK customer's friends and family"??!! How sweet are you pretending to be Mario? You seem a bit fake to me. Some fuck wit tried to punch someone and died on their dentures…and you are saying sorry to BK customer's family and friends? How vague is that?! Do you know how many people you are saying that to? How about, "sorry to all the friends and family of the old guy that choked." Any way, I think I have wasted too much time on this. I need a whopper, hold the old guy please.

  39. 39

    Re: YRUFATT

eat the shit out of my colon you retarded bitch

  40. 40

Sounds like some crotchety old man who couldn't keep him temper and basically screwed himself over for deciding to throw a punch.

  41. 41

    Re: kathie!

But a customer can assault an employee?

  42. 42

its not like the 67 year old was so innocent. Since he tried to punch first, it means he was the instigator and should have known what was coming.

  43. 43

Who cares how old this guy was? If he threw a punch, he was a miserable old bastard. Probably got away with that kind of behavior his whole life……..until he did it to the wrong guy. I bet he beat his wife and kids.

  44. 44

Re: sNaTcHqUaTcH – Just because it happend in Detroit doesn't mean a thing..Fast food places are full of scum. This type of shit can happen anywhere only this story is out because the guy died. I wouldn't let someone hit me and get away with it. Karma is a bitch. What a shitty way to die.

  45. 45

SOMETHING TELLS ME ONE OF BOTH THESE DUDES ARE BLACK… JUST SAYIN.

  46. 46

Sounds like he got what he deserved. He tried to assault a 20 year old, the kid defended himself.

  47. 47

Re: xcalibur – Race shouldn't matter at all but admittedly, I'm thinking the same thing

  48. 48

    Black folks I bet…typical

  49. 49

Re: DANNYGLOVERSDICKBLOOD – well that's bad luck…. the guy shoulded've just called the manager or the cops and get the angry old bastard out… now the guy is the one paying the consequences…. that's why they say violence is no the answer

  50. 50

The old man was probably white trash. Black people have perfect teeth and don't wear dentures.

  51. 51

Why does it always come to this? The customer orders the employee like a servent and then the employee retorts with entitlement and corks the customer in the face. Maybe American schools should try the social etiquite courses instead of the guns and batending. Why is violence so okay at these places?

  52. 52

What, who cares about this, sounds like the old fuck got what he deserved. There are consequences to every action, I'm sure this wasn't his first go round…

It blows my mind that this dumb shit is news worthy..

  53. 53

i hope what ever the fight was about was worth dying/killing for, which given the setting seems unlikely ….

  54. 54

    Were they black?

  55. 55

my thoughts go out to the employee too.. they were only trying to defend themselves against a crazy customer

  56. 56

You punch someone, expect to get decked back. That's why I don't go around town punching total strangers. Uhh derrrrrr.. I'm surprised he didn't get sliced with a prep knife in return. Sounds like a reality check for this old man.

  57. 57

It's the old guys fault… don't try to punch somebody without expecting it back in return.
