Bea Arthur WAS A Marine!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

bea arthur was a marine

Check out the photo (above) which was taken shortly after Bea Arthur's enlistment into the Marines Corps.

You heard us right! According to records, our golden girl spent 30 months in the Marine Corps, as a Women's Reserve member who drove a truck AND was a typist!

Not only was she a Marine, but she was intense…even by Marine standards!

Personality appraisal sheets from her enlistment interviews described her as "Argumentative" and "Over agressive," and her interviewer wrote that she was "officious - but probably a good worker - if she has her own way!" LOLs.

We suppose being "over aggressive" must be a good thing in the Marines, because Arthur moved up the ranks to staff sergeant, which was her final rank until she was honorably discharged in Sept 1945. Damn girl, you really were intense.

This gets even MORE hardcore, though. According to her single "misconduct report" filed against her in 1944, she was given reduced pay during a period while stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina, because she was left incapacitated for duty for five weeks after contracting a venereal disease!

Wow, Bea. You were REALLY in the Marines and you were REALLY hardcore!

What do U think about Bea's Marine history?

How disrespectful - posting about her personal medical records. I know she is passed on, but I just feel like some things are not meant to be talked about after someone has gone. The rest of the story was interesting though.

    R.I.P Bea, secrets and all.

  6. 6

Perez, why do you feel the need to air her dirty laundry?? I'm sure she would never want anyone knowing she had a venereal disease.

  7. 7

Ms. Arthur was a great actress. That's all we need to know. Making public that someone had a venerial disease is bullying and worse when the person is deceased. You're just horrible Perez. I hope you can heal the hate in your heart.

    I Love her

  9. 9

I'm miss her even more. You could have left out the part about a std. It's completely irrelevant to the fact that she served her country.

    tranny?

    Aww! That is awesome!!!!

  12. 12

  13. 13

    FUCKING A BEA! FREAKING AWESOME!

  14. 14

What a douche you are for bringing up her personal medical records. You are truly the lowest of the low life, so desperate for sensationalism that you go after the dead.

  15. 15

    R.I.P., Bea…thanks for the laughs !

  16. 16

My kind of woman! LOL YOU BEA!!!

I love this woman. I always have and I always will. She was so proud and strong and honorable and cool. It bums me out, though, that people are making public what she so fervently denied and wanted to bury - probably because the Marines made it part of her record that she had a venereal disease. That SUCKS. 1. It may not even be true - maybe it was a damn bladder infection; and 2. she was faithfully married at the time, so really, it implies more about her husband's character than her own. Of course, the Marines in the early 40s didn't look at it this way and punished her. F*ckers. Anyhow, honor this goddess, and please stop making public her private medical history.

    She was really quite pretty!

'Over aggressive' in a woman would be called 'likes to get things done' in a man.

She was ahead of her time, " over aggresive" for a woman back then meant probably what we know today as sassy, ambitious and assertive. Very cool!!

  22. 22

I think it's none of our business. Why can't shit like this be kept private as she wished? Perez leave it to you to dish the dirt. But I guess that salashish shit is what you love, given your the ultimate Mrs. Kravitz.

  23. 23

Why is this filed under "wacky, tacky & true?"

  24. 24

  25. 25

Perez you have sunk to a new low.Why did we need to know this? People will still love and miss Bea. RIP Bea

  26. 26

Perez, how many STD's have you had since you want to bring up somebody else's business?

  27. 27

Dont worry Perez, we will be posting about all your venereal diseases after you pass on.

  28. 28

so much for your new vow to be less mean spirited! Bea Arthur deserves more respect from you, than to resort to this smear….sad for you.

  32. 32

she's the man, what i badass, R.I.P Bea

perez you are a total douche! Leopards can't change their spots- and you…well, you can't change your lack of true human emotion. It's strange to think that you walk around truly believing that you are a nice person, you are delusional, you are a leach and a blemish on the face of society. You bring out the worst in people, and I am saddened that your promise to change was short lived and about as genuine as a barbie doll's breasts. The worst part of it all, is that you pledged to change on the back of all of these teen suicides, making it seem as though their deaths moved you to make a drastic difference in your own life, in your own career. What are we left with? The same old gossip blogger (to be fair, you have toned down a tad here and there) but certainly you have not kept to your promises, certainly you have not become the champion you led us to believe you would become. What we are left with are deaths that seem to have only made a transient impact on you, only when they were fresh in the news enough to make you look good when you could jump on the bandwagon of making a change- but now that the hard work has to be put in? You aren't doing it.

  34. 34

So this is it now perez? you are now semi-outing people, you are still posting things you should know better than to post. A dead actresses vd record from a medical report should be off-limits and you know that- it's not cute gossip, it's nasty, it's hurtful and dirty. So what was it perez? Did you make the promise because it made YOU look good? It makes you look bad now. It should shame you that you are making those deaths look unimportant to you now, that they aren't fresh in your mind that you can't keep up the discipline to be a good person and still be a blogger. Shame on you, and shame on you if you can't either come clean that you give up and give in- or renew the effort to be who you want to be…not this person you seem to be again.
