New Mark Burnett/NBC Singing Competition Show To Take On Idol And X Factor!

mark burnett and nbc competition show to take on idol and x factor

We would LOVE to be a judge on your new competition show, Mark Burnett! American Idol won't know what hit 'em! LOLs.

NBC is teaming up with Mark Burnett Productions to create a new competitor for American Idol and X Factor, called The Voice of America.

NBC's new show is based on the top-rated competition series from the Netherlands, The Voice of Holland.

The Voice has beaten out the Dutch Idol and X Factor…maybe the American version will follow the same path IF we're chosen to host!

Here's what NBC alternative chief Paul Telegedy had to say about the show's upcoming Spring launch:

"It's a bold move, it shows our confidence. But we've been busy fermenting a move into this genre for quite a few months. We've been at a state of DefCon 2."

The Voice's format consists of four coaches who listen to, but don't watch singers, and if they like the singer, they push a button that sends them to the next round, to be claimed as one of their "students."

If the singer is liked by more than one judge/coach, the singer is allowed to choose which one will coach them, and then coaches will have teams go head-to-head against each other.

Here's what Burnett had to say about the show:

"Somebody will show up with all the right moves and look like a star, but their voice is only good, not great, and they don't get chosen. You're dealing only with your sense of hearing — do you believe this voice is worthy of your commitment? The coaches have skin in the game and will be a part of the careers of these young performers after the show."

Sounds pretty cool…and it'll sound even cooler if we're approached to judge/coach! We'd be awesome!

…Just sayin'!

Team The Voice? Team Idol? Team X Factor? Team None of the above? Team ALL of the above?

I think this would be great! i would totally tune it for it. It's bringing back to music what it's been missing, actually artists that can sing and do not need all the auto-tune and those who are only have a career because they are friends with someone big (aka Cheryl Cole). I'm a fan of American Idol and all but a lot of times people don't go through because of the way they appear, and I really don't like the x factor. I think that show is totally a fake and that the performances on their are way to over the top, you don't have to be a good singer to be on that show thats for sure.

You'd be a good judge? All you do is judge people on how they look.

YEAH! Lets totally over saturate the market with half assed singing shows! Why do something original?

If they have an age cutoff of 28, they'll remove 95% of the great, experienced voices. Are they ageist?

I am against singing competition shows generally…not a fan of them
But I´ve gotta say …watch out ,Cowell !
That show is a breath of fresh air. I saw it. It´s very dynamic (especially at auditions stage) and very addictive to watch.

That show can be a KILLER both for Idol and Shit-factor. And I´m glad for that.cannot stand them.
It can be a next big thing on TV. If it begins to air in the US ( and so well produced as in Holland) , Cowell´s shit has no chance to be honest. In Holland it already killed Idol-similar shows.

Please…No More Singing, Dancing, Juggling ect. crap reality shows. Thank You!

    Team Factor ALL THE WAY!

  8. 8

Team none of them. I wish all these shitty reality shows would go away.

The success or failure of the show will depend on who the judges are and the host. NBC will have to shell big bucks to get qualified names in the music industry as mentors. Which automatically disqualifies you.

Would you PLEASE quit embarrassing yourself, Mario. You will NEVER be a judge on any kind of show so give up the pathetic pandering. You're making a fool of yourself. Poor thing.

The voice is a really good concept. I'm from Holland and it's HUGE here!!! Just look for Ben Saunders and tvoh and you'll find some amazing stuff!!

Re: @v@ – who said anything about an age cut off?

Re: Mancunian – Me. Idol only wanted young, moldable starry eyed's. I'm hoping this new show lets everyone and all age groups in on talent. Watching pups try to learn their craft is no challenge.
