Thora Birch Fired From Broadway Debut In Dracula!

And it's supposed to go up for previews at the end of the week! What the hell?!

In a shocking turn of events, Thora Birch has reportedly been fired from the new stage play Dracula! Thora was to make her Broadway debut as the leading lady and Dracula's love interest, Lucy Seward, but now, she's been tossed out.

So what happened?! There are two sides to every story, but lets begin with the director.

According to Paul Alexander, the decision was made solely on the basis of Thora's father, Jack Birch. He allegedly threatened one of the other actors during a rehearsal last Thursday night and Paul explains that the actor didn't feel comfortable coming back to work after that. The decision was then made to let Thora go to keep Jack away from the set. In an interview, Paul insisted that Thora being dismissed had nothing to do with her acting ability, which he actually praised.

And then there is poor Thora's side of the story, or rather we should say, her father's. Jack Birch admits that he approached one of the actors of the show after a particularly uncomfortable scene with his daughter. According to Jack, Thora was uneasy with the direction of the scene (the actor was rubbing her back) and he was voicing her concern, as her manager. Jack insists that he didn't threaten anyone and remained as professional as possible. Still, on Thursday night, the producers were alerted that Thora was being fired and she was immediately escorted out of the theatre, along with her father.

Well, this all just sounds…odd! Even if her father was threatening the guy, why should she have to pay for the crimes of the father?! Why couldn't he just be banned from the theater?!

No one was more shocked by the news of Thora's firing than Thora herself, who told sources she felt completely "blindsided" by the whole thing! She explained:

“For three weeks I was just doing my thing, and everything I hear was positive, that the work I was doing was wonderful. Maybe it’s some kind of misunderstanding. I mean, there had been no tensions, everything was going wonderfully. Then Friday they just asked me to leave the building. I’m totally in a state of shock over this, I still can’t believe it."

Wow. We just can't make sense of this. Maybe the guy is a Michael Lohan wannabe, but that shouldn't have cost Thora her job! This just really sucks!

We think we smell a coverup here!

The only way to decipher this he said-she said is to wait and see what happens. You don't just fire a Thora Birch if she has been great thusfar and right BEFORE a production. Either Pop is lying and really wigged out/gave direction no other choice, or you'll see in coming weeks that she gets replaced by another big name (was someone in the wings….) or a second choice that tips the hat to this being a concocted or exaggerated story with ulterior motives for the firing. There IS more to it though.

I remember reading Thora's dad has done weird stuff on sets in the past and threatened film crews to get his way. Both of Thora's parents are ex-porn stars and it sounds like her dad is way too controlling of her career. I feel bad for her. She was great in Ghost World and American Beauty but I don't think too many people in show business want to deal with oddball daddy.

There's something more to this. Thora did a topless scene in American Beauty and her father is a former porn actor. Why would a back rub bother him?

Thora is being replaced with the FABULOUS Miss Emily Bridges, daughter of Beau Bridges. Previews begin TONIGHT!! And from what I hear, Thora has been extremely unprofessional since the rehearsals started in November…but I think that her behavior during rehearsals would have been enough to get her fired. It feels like the thing with her dad is a weird kind of cover-up. I don't know what it's covering up though…

that's really weird. i've never done professional theatre before, but i've never been in a production where the actors can't talk to the director themselves and need a middle man to do it for them. either the director is iffy or the dad is…

Why is the director siding with the 'backrubber?' How very odd.
