Original Buffy Star Says Movie Reboot Is A "Mistake"

That's pretty blunt!

Warner Bros. is turning the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series into a movie and the show's star, Nicholas Brendon, does not have a high opinion of it.

He said:

"I hope their vampires don't glitter. You know, listen…I think it's a mistake, I think that it's trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it's going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think."

Ouch. Do U wanna see the Buffy movie?!

Why are people so surprised when celebrities come out and say what we're all thinking. Just like James Cameron complaining about the abuse of 3D. No it's not audacious…it's dead on!

  2. 2

i cant look at him as xander ever since he played a super creepy rapist on private practice..

  3. 3

completamente de acuerdo, qué rubia peliteñida de las de ahora podría reemplazar a Sarah Michelle? Porque de la película original de Buffy no me quiero ni acordar!por dios!!!

  4. 4

Buffy was a great love just as it was and may she rest in peace.

  5. 5

Apparently he's forgetting that the TV show was inspired by a movie to begin with.

  6. 6

Yay Xander. I'm slightly intrigued by the remake, but the original will ALWAYS be better. And it sucks that none of the originals will be there.. :( Boo.

  7. 7

hate to tell him this but there is already a buffy movie BEFORE the series. very narcissitic of him

  8. 8

Nicholas knows what he is saying! As a Btvs fan (and Nick fan) they can not replace what Buffy is/was to us. Maybe a new fan-base will emerge? In the meantime sign me up for more "Buffy-fests" with Nick!!

Pretty sure he knows Buffy was a movie before a series, guys.. DUH. But the movie was also Joss Whedon. Nicholas is just saying what is the truth, the movie is going to suck with out Joss and the original cast.

  10. 10

Yes, it was a movie first but any Buffy fan will know that Joss wasn't able to totally explain his thoughts on the character in one movie. Hence the tv show. And in the end, it is Joss's brainchild so to have it go on without him is a shame. And of course it is not Buffy without the actors of the show.

  11. 11

It might prove 'interesting' to see a different take on the material but honestly Joss Whedon did it SO impeccably the first time that an implosion is likely. Buffy the series and writing were angsy teenage fun with pertinent issues and witty banter, and yet it was also deep, complex, iconic. It is really unfortunate someone 'll butcher this but if they'd someone had a re-boot or a potential SEQUEL with Joss and company involved, I'd have been there and give it a whirl.

Re: Amanda Dunaway – Of course he hasn't but at least it was still one singular vision then - Joss Whedon.

  13. 13

Also, I don't know if anyone else agrees with me but the first feature was pure fun yes but camp and camp alone for the most part. The series, with the season arcs of girl to womanhood from young teen slayer past college days, apocalypse, risen from the dead, losing a parent, being a sister, facing her destiny, was SO incredibly good. All her life and loves. The series really did the character of BUFFY a service that the movie never could….simply by virtue of episodes and time.

  14. 14

Nicholas, give me your dick so that I may suck it because I love you for saying that. = )

  15. 15

Yes and no. Yes cause it'd be awesome if it was done well. No, because they're just gonna screw it up.

  16. 16

    Re: Amanda Dunaway

Newsflash: Buffy started off as a movie that completely deviated from what Joss Whedon intended because studios got selfish and just did what they wanted with it. Result? FAIL. When Joss was finally in control of Buffy- RESULT : AWESOMEST SHOW EVER.

  17. 17

Look, there was a Buffy movie before the series, but that movie was also Joss Whedon's work. He is not being narcissistic. The WB is trying to remake Buffy WITHOUT Joss Whedon or the original creativity behind the character, movie, & show. This is a big mistake! They need to just be patient until the originals decide it will be a good move & join in on the remake. But without them, the movie will fail.

  18. 18

Already saw the movie! About 15 years ago.

  19. 19

The original Buffy movie sucked. I never thought I would like the show, but it turned out to be one of the best series I've seen. There is no point in making another Buffy movie because it won't compare without that cast. If anything, it might be funny to re-release the movie now as a campy, you know it sucks, but you keep watching anyway type of thing.

  20. 20

Just because Twilight did so well doesn't mean we now need 10 tv shows and movies about vampires…it's getting a little ridiculous. I think the Buffy ship has sailed.

  21. 21

Ummmm……. Buffy was a movie before the second rate TV series started.

  22. MsGMK says – reply to this

    22

I agree with Brendon..I was a huge Buffy fan and I have long waited for a Buffy movie. I hate that they have waited so long to make it. I'm interested to see who they cast.

  23. 23

Re: Amanda Dunaway – Although that is true, the movie didn't do well from what i remember. However, as we all know the TV show was extremely successful, so i imagine he is basing his opinion with that in mind…just a thought

  24. 24

Re: MVPnis – 2nd rate??? Are you high??? Btvs was one of highest rated/loved tv shows. It had international status….many countries around the world loved this show…if anything the movie was 2nd rate…

  25. 25

Have they learned nothing from the original Buffy movie…the cast/writers/production staff is what made the Buffy TV show the cult classic and much loved program it was. Doing a reboot without any of the original crew is a mistake and unless they manage a miracle I don't expect it to be anything worth seeing.

  26. 26

Yeah, don't worry about remaking 'Wizard of Oz', 'True Grit', a bevvy of classic horror flicks, and every other TRUE classic out there. Remaking "Buffy" is the big mistake of our time. Get over it.

  27. 27

Only if the original cast is in the movie it'll be cool, but if they are gonna remake the movie with antoher cast it'll suck..
And yes maybe there was a movie before the series, HAHA but OMG that movie sucked as well.. the series is another thing! the series R Hot.. the shouldn't make a movie it's gonna flop anyway!

  28. 28

The TV show was created by Joss Whedon, after his original concept was bastardized for the Kristy Swanson movie. It was not based on a movie. There are so many Buffy fanatics out there that a new Buffy movie without the original creator is really just a slap in the face.

  29. 29

The Buffy reboot is a BIG mistake, bigger than JJ Abrams' abomination called Star Trek (sorry, folks, but as much as I liked the actors in that movie, I LOATHED the movie itself). Unless Joss Whedon is involved somehow, you couldn't pay me enough to see a Buffy reboot.

  30. 30

Re: Amanda Dunaway – and apparently your forgetting Joss Whedon was involved in the original movie also…unlike this reboot.

  31. 31

I could hug him for saying what every Buffy fan is thinking!

  32. 32

NO!!!! they better not!! They will be jumping on this bandwagon of vampires entertainment. Hollywood come on, you find something that worked for someone and you over do it.
