Jon Stewart Devotes Entire Show To 9/11 First Responders

| Filed under: Jon StewartPolitikSad Sad

Thank goodness for Jon Stewart.

The Daily Show host devoted his entire last show of the year to the 9/11 First Responders.

Something close to his heart, the 9/11 First Responders Bill, has been blocked by Congress, meanwhile the hefty tax cut bill was quickly extended, outraging Stewart.

Stewart speaks with four first responders who are now suffering from several illnesses, including cancer and heart disease, due to the fire, ash, and debris covering ground zero.

Watch the very emotional clips (above).

this is a stand alone bill that is deficit neutral (it pays for itself through closing of a corporate tax loophole). Republicans got members of congress out of bed on a Sunday night to vote on a bill to "save" terri schaivo - one woman who was brain damaged to the point of no return - and yet they are blocking voting on this? they are childish little shitheads who have blocked and blocked and blocked and then convinced the unwashed masses that they are doing the people's work. And then whine about having to come to their jobs the week between christmas & new years.

Ummmmm….just to get your "reporting" right - it was NOT the entire show, it was about 10-12min of the show. That being said it was AWESOME and it hopefully shed some light on what little congress is doing to help these people.
    I love Jon Stewart!

    Speechless :/

This is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. American's were at their finest hour since Pearl Harbor on that day; private citizens, police, firemen, EMTs off-duty personel, all went rushing to the aid of those victims. I have seen this before; Vietnam Vets have double the rate of Hep-C b/c of sanitary conditions in Vietnam. It took a lot of time and pushing my former Senator Bill Roth to basically force the VA to treat these men. Who will be the hero for our first responders? Jon, you're one. Now go out and get 'em!

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – Ah, but you forget: "Come back to their jobs?" How many were ever in session every day, anyway? Every vote should be a roll-call vote so that we all KNOW if our Senators and Congressmen were doing their jobs or if they were out having lunch with mistresses, I mean lobbyists. I worked in politics & gave it up to work for an environmental agency b/c politics was literally making me ill. If only consituents really knew what their representatives think of them, what their agendas really are, who they are beholden to, and how much graft they are taking, America just might be a better place. Kudos on your comment. Spot on.

Re: LilyDaleGirl07 – I think i would be disgusted, too. But, short of revolution, what are we to do?

  7. 7

This is really heartbreaking. That is all I can say.

  8. 8

Of course the First Responders VOLUNTEERS who were not on any city's payroll were EXCLUDED!

    Re: TheMrsBradPitt
Thanks for your post. The Schaivo case was ridiculous, as is this bill. The same republicans who wanted to "save" Schaivo are the same ones who are quick to push for the death penalty. For them, pro-life is apparently when it suits them. Anywho, I digress. Thanks for your intelligent, thoughtful post.

    Re: TheMrsBradPitt – I couldn't agree more.

Remember the day it happened. Remember how we were all stunned. TV went down, planes didn't fly and it was for days. The brave men and women who came the SECOND it happened were honered in words by President Bush and so many others. This is the way we treat them? They are sick and may die and we aren't helping. If a plane flies into another building people are going to think before they help.

    Re: TheMrsBradPitt
Couldn't have said it better myself.

  13. 13

I am outraged!! What am I gonna do about it???? I'm gonna Google my fucking senators and give them a shit storm of outrage via phone and emails!!! They better pass that bill now!

Those fat, slothy worms need to be reminded of who they're working for.

And thanks Jon Stewart for this.. and thanks Perez for reposting.

  14. 14

i am outraged and in shock. kudos to jon stewart for highlighting such an important issue that has for some reason gone under the media's radar.

  15. 15

Every member of Congress should be hanging their head in shame!!!! I did not lose anyone close to me on 9/11 but if I had, I would still to this day feel nothing but pride and gratitude for the way the NY police and fire departments handled themselves during that tragedy. Hopefully every American voter remembers the actions of their congressional members when they come up for re-election.

  16. 16

Everyone needs to e-mail, call, snail mail, tweet, whatever way of communication you use and get in touch with their state senators and representatives and tell them that it is unacceptable to hold up the health care for first responders. Everyday we lose one or more of these brave men and women and it's because they can't afford the health bills on their own. Please everyone let congress know that you won't accept their behavior. Even write the President. One letter to a politican counts as 10,000 votes.

  17. 17

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – Write the President and your senators and congressmen. Or e-mail them, tweet them, snail mail them. Just let them know that we won't accept their behavior any longer.

  18. 18

Fuck these fake politicians that pretend they are looking out for the good of the nation. Thank you Jon Stewart for continuing to expose these people for their bullshit.

OOooh, the comedian was outraged. what a boob. don't expect any straight news or info from that butt-ugly ignoramus. What, he's a politician now?

  20. 20

Re: uyeah – Exactly… don't go scukin Jon's wiener just yet people, the man does 10 minutes for the 1st responders 9 years later! and now he's some humanitarian flippin hero now? He's the same guy that did the "stop the insanity tour" or as I like to call it, " shut up and take it up the butt from your Government tour", that was setup to make dissenting Americans feel like their doing something wrong for disagreeing with our corrupt Government.BTW Jon's brother is the COO of the NYSE, so in other words Jon has a criminal in the family, more than likely an inside trader.

  21. 21

I really can't believe that our government does not care about those men and women. I mean it sickens me. I mean do we need to do a telethon or something to get these people the medical attention they deserve cause we sure as hell cant rely on our government. where is the fucken change obama? I mean seriously it was suppose to get better when we elected you. step in do something show us you care.

  22. 22

Ok so our government is closed from Christmas until the new year? WTF? I mean seriously Im a Christian and I get having Christmas Eve and Christmas off but they really need a week?

  23. 23

republicans make me want to leave the country

  24. 24

Heartbreaking — it makes me ashamed that we can't mount a million people to go down to the White House and fight for these guys the way they fought for us.

  25. 25

When will American wake-up to how totally disgusting Republicans really are????
    This is horrible!
    Bravo Jon Stewart!

  26. 26

disgusting, tight ass republicans……….i hope u rot in hell for this…go ahead people, keep votin em in…..and this is what u get…..evil, evil fuckwads…fuckin burn in hell

  27. 27

Re: KDIZZLL – Actually, I think the point isn't that Stewart did this, which is cool, but the fact that a comedian on Comedy Central was the one to do it. Isn't that the job of major news networks?
Yeah, it's nine years later, and sure, you can disagree with Stewarts politics, but at least he's done this, which is more than most.

  28. 28

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – Write EVERYONE you can; Senators, Congressmen, etc. Get involved with the VA, help support them. Form your own protest outside your Governor's house; I imagine you'll be able to find plenty of protestors and he/she'll be plenty annoyed. Hopefully enough sho that "they" bring this to the National Spotlight more.

  29. 29

Re: uyeah – are you serious? this is what he does. talk about politics. fail…
