When you've beaten one of Avatar's records, you know you've done good with your movie!

Sources are reporting that Disney's Tron Legacy 3D did extraordinarily well last night at it's midnight showings. According to reports, the movie grossed $3.5 million from the screenings, with just over a million of that coming form the 228 IMAX screens it was playing on.

That number is reported to be the biggest percentage, about 25+%, done by any movie's midnight box office premiere in IMAX. It bested Iron Man 2, Inception, and yes, even Avatar.

Hmm. Wonder if it will overtake any of those movies' overall gross at IMAX? We shall see!

If you need a little convincing to see this movie, check out our review HERE.

I heard this movie was awful, and they're basically just stealing your money for the IMAX "experience". Just sayin'…

The exact same thing was written about the film Speed Racer, & look at how it ended up. Hopefully it does well… a great idea… remaking movies from the 80's… what a concept.

I didn't find it awful. Visually it's incredible and the soundtrack really suited the movie. The problem was the script which lets say didn't quite match the visuals, but I still think it was worth a watch in IMAX.

This the so dumb…The only reason that Ton beat Avatar is because Avatar opened during snowmagedon (or snowpocolypse) Which made them lose the majority of their revenue because most of the east coast was covered in snow. So, had Avatar opened during more boring weather conditions the numbers would have been completely different.
