Dustin Hoffman Prefers Arranged Marriages

Huh. Okay, kind of a strange thing for a guy who's been married twice.

While promoting his new film Little Fockers, Dustin Hoffman vented his frustration on marriage, saying he prefers them to be arranged and called family, "unnatural."

The actor said:

"There is nothing more unnatural than family or marriage. That's why they're both so difficult. You just wake up and suddenly clunk, you're ready. 'Okay, I guess that's it.'

Arranged marriages I think make a lot of sense because you're not under the pressure of being in love. It's an easy contract. You don't have to like each other and then whatever happens, happens."

Well, we guess he knows a little something about love as he has been married to his second wife Lisa for 30 years. That's a lifetime in Hollywood marriages.

If I were his wife I'd be offended by that

I read that his second wife was his next door neighbour growing up but when he was an adult she was a little girl
so I guess he loved her and she probably idolized him even before he became a famous person

referring to marriage as a contract? the last of the great romantics….

I know he is just being flippant, but think about all those girls in arranged marriages in India and Pakistan and Afghanistan who are so badly abused that they try and burn themselves to death - I think there is more horror than happiness.

Leave it to a jew to remove all romance and love from marriage. Pathetic.

Hoffman has a history of saying odd things. One thing I remember for many many years back was something sweet he said. He had remarked in a magazine interview that (paraphrashing here) he thought pregnant women were extra beautiful and sexy.

Actually, arranged marriages have a high degree of success in people from India. Parents might be better than a gullible daughter in telling if some prospective husband is a loser.

30 yrs is a lifetime in any marriage, not just Hollywood.

    What an asshole.

Re: marlow – They have a high degree of success b/c the women are often abused and could be killed if they leave. Parents usually find a mate based on $$$ and status. Many literally sell their daughters. So, yeah arranged marriages in India rock!

Re: LovelyCup – don't make assumptions that this applies to all arranged marriages or all from India and Pakistan. When I was in grad school, all of the post-docs from India had arranged marriages. Their parents made the arrangements when the [then] children were old enough that they could discern personalities, interests, etc. and the selections were well thought out - the couples were incredibly well suited to one another and 20 some odd years later, these are still happy, solid marriages.

Re: Mad Dog – Exactly what i was thinkin, I'm sure what he was really getting at was jews should never marry outside of their race because as the Talmud states," any non jew is a filthy animal".
