Exploring Israel: Part 1

Okay, so maybe we got a little too excited, but this hideously ugly pants are beyond amazing and we had to buy them.

Our first full day in Tel Aviv was a wonderful mix of going to museums and learning about the complicated history of Israel, as well as just walking around various neighborhoods and parts of town and truly exploring the city.

Tel Aviv is so beautiful! And, in many ways, it reminds us of Buenos Aires.

We are thrilled that we're in Israel through next weekend and that we're going to get to see the entire country.

Lots more to do!!!

Oh… love the pants!!! Enjoy the rest of your vacay, and do something really nice for your mom today. :)

  15. 15

perez, do you also have the guts to go to the westbank and visit the palestinians?

  16. 16

    Who is sponsoring this trip?
You should disclose it if you are on a paid vacation and supplying publicity for what is at times a conflict area.

  17. 17

Check out the apartheid wall? How about the rabbi's spitting on non-joos as they walk down the street? How about the blatant human rights abuses of the indigenous Palestinian men, women and children? I hear that's a sight to see too.

  18. 18

God why is everyone so mean? There is nothing wrong on going on a vacation, and an interesting one at that!

    Welcome to Israel!!!
YOU HAVE to go to the Rothchilde area in tel aviv at night! super fun place to hangout!!
also you must NOT leave Tel Aviv before you have an Angus Burger at AGADIR! (on top of the carmel market )

    Have an amazing sunny time!!

  20. 20

Perez! i think its awesome ur in israel, i live here so if you need a tour guide or just someone to hang out with i'd love to meet you! :)

  21. 21

are you going to be in Eilat?

  22. 22

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Get your facts straight: Israel has killed thousands upon thousands of Palestinians, while only a few hundred residents of Israel have died. The forces are totally unbalanced. Plus, don't forget the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced so that Jews could have a country (which they still believe is God's "Promised land").

  23. 23

all of you israel haters shut up! israel is a beautiful amazing country! he will see many arabs and jews working side by side not spitting or throwing rocks. make sure you hit up the market at machene yehuda in jerusalem for some amazing hummas and get challah from the pe'er baker, they have a stand there and it's the best! get sweet and whole wheat! also the palmach museum is one of the most interesting museums you can go to in tel aviv! enjoy your trip and make sure someone shows you shoko b'sakit (chocolate milk in a bag)!!

  24. 24

AM I the only one who doesn't give a fuck about Perez' travelling and stuff?

  25. 25

Human rights violations, like the Palestinian people who have to live behind bars and fences because their israeli neighbors who with the support of IDF live in stolen homes, throw things at them constantly and attack the Palestinian children who come out to play? And are you talking about quassam rockets…lets compare those to the white phosphorus the israelis spray upon the Palestinians? How about the denial of bare essentials such as clean water and proper health care.

  26. 26

PEREZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you for going to ISREAL!!!! you can show the world what an amazing country it is!!! make sure to visit all the hot spots, go out, have fun!!!!!!!!!!

  27. 27

Re: just say FUKK – no, i don't give a fuck either. i wanna know where the CELEBRITY gossip is, because really, who is he trying to fool? he's FAR from being celebrity material.

  31. 31

Perez, you have to change the facial expression you use for ALL pictures. It is really awful.

  32. 32

When you come to Jerusalem, go to the Hebrew University on Har-Hatzofim. The amphitheater has the best view of Jerusalem and you can even see the dead sea! there are so many things in Israel that are beautiful! I hope you get to see them all!

  33. 33

perez- 100% go to machane yehuda in jerusalem! its a big big big shuk and you can buy everything there! its amazing!!! the chalva and marzapan is amazing!!! also hit up the tunnels at the wall and and yir david (city of david)!! wow what can i say….if you get a chance to go, i say go to haifa, its sooooo pretty there!!! it is honestly one of the most gorgeous countries out there and im very happy and very fortunate that i got to live there for 7 months and hope to return their one day on a permanent basis!!! enjoy every second!

Re: Yaron Lirase – Non jew and non palestinian, I am italian and I can tell you how Palestinians lives, they live in TERROR that the israel army will come in the middle of the night and tear down their houses, that they will bomb innocent kids just because they are palestinians.

That si the reality my friend.

  35. 35

Re: Yaron Lirase – Israel doe NOT belong to you, the british and USa gave it after they STOLEN from the Palestinians.

    Educate yourself my friend.

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Israel has left the area? You're kidding me. I'm from Jerusalem and when I'm in the west bank, I see atleast 10 settlements or so which are illegal under international law, and who violate human rights every day, attack Palestinians, and abuse them and even put the Israeli soldiers at risk because they are fundamentalists. Check out what happens in Hebron and you'll see what I mean.
Also don't try that shit on me (the whole civilians afraid from Gaza missiles). The hamas rockets rarely cause any damage (and sometimes end up killing Arab Israelis instead) and are no match to the nuclear arsenal that Israel has as well as it is no justification for the murder of 500 children and the use of phosporous powder, which is once more illegal under international law. I went to school in west jerusalem and yeah sure I was under threat from the suicide bombers and so, but quite honestly, that is absolutely NOTHING compared to what Israel has done in Gaza and the West Bank.
Israel violates international law all the time; apart from the obvious illegal occupation of Palestinians, there's their poor treatment of Ethiopians, their discriminative policies against Israeli Arabs, as well as their treatment towards Jews who are not deemed zionists.

  37. LeenB says – reply to this

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Their treatment of Orthodox Jews (let's not forget they want to build over a Jewish cemetary in Jaffa), their violent riots with the Orthodox Jews. I can give you many personal stories how they have kicked many foreigners (American citizens, UK citizens, even Jews actually) out of this country and have stripped searched them, detained them, expelled them. (I went to an international school, and my teachers were always forced to leave the country, despite the fact it was in West jerusalem, and they were almost always zionists).

Plus, Hamas was at first endorsed by Israel, so…

  38. 38

    E-V-E-R-Y-BODY loves Israel………………. Just kidding!

  39. 39

No Prez, I hope you didn't buy those pants. Gawdy

  40. 40

    I mean god awful.

    Re: Yaron Lirase

BULLSHIT. Go read some Noam Chomsky for achange (who has not been allowed to enter Israel.. surprise, surprise). Or Finklestein (he's jewish and his parents are holocaust survivors). If you read Haaretz, the liberal left wings are constantly writing articles how fascist the state of Israel has become, and constantly have their liberties surpressed. And I am talking ISRAELI JEWS, who have lived all their lives here.
Israel created the so called terrorist because they have deprives them of everything from life. 80% of the Palestinians suffer from post-traumatic stress and their childhood experience have very deep negative psychological impacts which in return organizations like Hamas exploite. You're forgetting that Hamas was endorsed by Israel at the beginning and had its support, pre-Intifada Era.
Plus hamas was created in 1989, but this issue has existed since 1948. Israel is pathetically trying to use Hamas as an excuse to unleash its master plan of establishing the state of Israel which includes the West Bank. Why else is the map of greater Israel at the back of an agorate coin? You tell me.

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Actually Yaron, I have been under a couple of city alarms. Most were flukes, but honestly I wasn't scared. Yeah there has been a couple of bombs going off on my school road, and my mother and brother could have been killed by a suicide bomber if they were 5 mins late to school. It sucks, it's terrifying but then I hear stories of my relatives being stuck in the basement running out of food and water and are constatly shelled by Israeli tanks. Not to mention, I was once stuck at a checkpoint and there were gas bombs being thrown around and shooting, there were tanks there as well, and yet we were on foot so something badly could happen and we ended up running to take cover, SOMEWHERE. So Yes, I am very fucking aware of the consequences of war.

    Re: Yaron Lirase
I've lived in Jerusalem for 18 years, I've seen it all, the threats, the bombings, the heart ache. Two of my old classmates are Israelis and are now serving in the army. Does it suck? Yes it really does. You say my words are propaganda, but I fail to see what is so propoganda about it. I read Haaretz every day, most of my teachers are Jewish Israelis and I have healthy debates with them every once in a while. You haven't bothered to read my post, so obviously you are unintelligenable enough to debate with. I have brough up issues that Israel has dealt with (excluding the occupation) such as Ethiopian immigration and the constant rifts between the Orthodox Jewish population and the state of Israel.

I am not saying Palestine is perfect. I hate Hamas with a passion, yet I have seen with my own eyes that what happens in Palestine is 10 times worse than I have EVER been through in Israel.

  44. LeenB says – reply to this

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Hamas aren't muslim. They are only exploiting the religion. They banned Muslims from going to Mecca for the pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia were disgraced at them and so were alot of other Muslim countries.

No actually, I don't compare Orthodox Jews to Hamas. I was merely talking about how the orthodox population is sometimes badly treated by the police of the state of Israel. But I do compare the fundemnatalist settlers in Hebron to Hamas.

  45. 45

people chill ok? if u dont like this dont read and dont comment on it, no ones forcing u to do this. the situation in isreal is really complicated, and there are many views and opinions, but it isnt about that right now. its about the unique culture, and how perez is visiting isreal and buying fugly pants xD ,so chill ppl, and btw be sure to hit the street market in jerusalum, its awesome!

  46. ginat says – reply to this

donno if you read that or not, but welcome to israel! its a little bit cold right now but its still a bit sunny.. anyway- if you heading south and you want to see some of the amazing places here next to Sderot (where all the shooting used to be) then you more then welcome to pick up the phone. Israel is tiny and you can spend hours in TA without noticing it. but the surronding are great. you know how to reach me.
    shalom and taa'se chaim!

  47. 47

Re: Yaron Lirase – Leen is absolutely right and she expressed the situation over there better than anyone and her comments were not short but very eloquent.

    Thank you for that Leen

  48. 48

    Re: idontwhattowriteheresodealwithit – Not complicated.

Israel si occupy a country that does not belong to them by using fear and violence against an entire population, the Palestinians.

This is very clear to every one like a clear sunny day in the sky.

  49. 49

Are you going to visit the areas Israel STOLE from Palestine?

  50. 50

Re: Sari Joy Zlotnick – THANK YOU!

  51. 51

Re: Yaron Lirase – As an Israeli Jew I can say this is not completely true. Both sides arent compromising and more Palestinians die the Israelis per year.

  52. 52

Re: LeenB – I cannot tell you how much I adore you for saying this.

  53. 53

    Re: Yaron Lirase
Yes, go to the Arab side and see how they treat their women and how they sell young girls for money to be beaten and raped and have their nose and ears cut off.

  54. 54

    Re: Yaron Lirase
You don't have to stand up for Israel. Everyone cannot help but have great respect for the discoveries, science, books, soldiers, medical advances, etc. Israel has given to the world.

  55. 55

    God Bless Israel !!!!!!!!

  56. 56

Re: whosthere – I can tell you how much you adore LeenB. You adore her as much a Palestinian Arab mother adores her suicide bomber son the minute AFTER he explodes !

  57. LeenB says – reply to this

    Re: backfire
Wow, what utter bullshit. I'm Palestinian and most of my family lives in the West Bank. I have never even seen any of that, or heard of it. In fact one guy was given the death sentence because he was found guilty of kidnapping, murdering and raping a 6 year old girl. Rape is punishable by the death sentence. There is no 'slave trade' in Palestine, unlike the slave circles within Paris and Western Europe. I guess you're getting confused with areas such as Afghanistan. They are 2 completely different countries.

  58. 58

I trust Perez is going to have a great time in Israel. His experiences there might serve as an eye opener. One thing not mentioned in the political discourse here is that peace has been offered! Israel offered peace three times in the past 11 years. The last two times (Taba and Olmert), the offers by two different Israeli PMs provided Palestinians with control over the "occupied territories." Israel even offered to compromise on its holiest religious site. Israel offered reparations and a state. Its army would be out; the settlers would be out. The Palestinians would be getting 98% of everything they asked for including east Jerusalem and their holy sites. Palestine could finally come into existence as a state. Why is there no criticism of rejectionist Palestinian leadership? In any case, I'm sure Perez will find Israel to be a vibrant, friendly and very cosmopolitan country. Stay tuned I guess!

  59. 59

Welcome to Israel! I hope you're having a great time while you're here! There's a lot to see and there's a great history to explore. Be sure to visit Akko, Tzfat (Safed), and Yaffo. If you get a chance, go to Herzliya (where I live) - we have a fabulous marina and it's the "richer side of life" - 100%.
