autopsy for teena marie reveals no trauma

Could she have simply died of natural causes? At 54-years-old?

According to a statement by police, Teena Marie's death appeared to be from natural causes, which MAY in fact be the case, now that we've learned that her autopsy revealed no signs of trauma.

We also learned earlier this week that no illegal drugs were found in her home.

Guess we'll have to wait until the toxicology reports are released to learn more.

Our thoughts continue to go out to Teena Marie's family and friends.

Wow. No Botox. Good job, Teena!

It was mentioned that she suffered a seizure a while back. I lost my 31 year old daughter exactly 2 years ago, to the day, to a condition known as "Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy" ( SUDEP). We may learn that she too is another statistic of SUDEP. It strikes more often than the medical professionals admit.

How many other people had NO CLUE who she was till she died? Not trying to be disrespectful but…

    Re: douseekamy
No disrespect at all. She was mostly popular during the 80s, but was mostly known and well respected within the R&B community. It's a shame she had to die to get people to discover who she is. Very talented and a one of a kind voice.

Re: douseekamy – I appreciate you not being disrespectful. It pissed me off that a lot of people were all like "never heard of her" and I was like - it would have taken you less time to google her than it would to have written that.

Most of her big pop hits were in the 80s, but only one was really pop maintstream - "Lovergirl." The rest were more R&B. But awesome. If you heard the Fugees you have heard her they sampled her song "Oh La La La" on their hit "Fugee La." To be honest - most of her following was in the black community. And even in the 80s she was lowkey. No acting, no publicity stunts, no perfumes or any crap like that. She was not a fame whore. So that is probably why you never heard of her. But check out her music! She had a voice!

    OoOh la la laaaa

If you haven't heard of her until now, I cannot sufficiently emphasize how phenomenally talented she was and how much you should check out her music. In my opinion she had the greatest voice of any female singer since Billie Holiday. Re: Into The Nightlife – is right; she was very low-key and more about making great music than being famous, so it's understandable that many haven't heard her, but do yourselves a favor and listen to some of her stuff. It will blow you away. "Ooh La La La," "Casanova Brown," "Deja Vu" and "Hit Me Where I Live" are timeless and good jumping off points. ("Lovergirl," "Behind the Groove" and some of her better-selling '80s songs might sound a little dated to some younger listeners).

YES she could have died of natural causes, you idiot.

Just because 1/2 of young Hollywood (that keeps your stupid-asses in business) is cracked out of their damn minds does not mean everyone in the music biz is. Teena has always carried herself in a respectful manner (publicly at least) & I can't believe some young, ignorant perez blogger would insinuate that drugs must of been involved.

As a person that suffers from epliepsy, I hope her family finds some comfort that her death was probably from natural causes. If you suffer from such a condition, please prepare your family for the unexpected.

What is so sad she was found by her 18 year old daughter. The young lady was clearly upset as she talked to 911. She was scared. I would be too.

I have some of her music and she was in the same league as Janis Joplin she had a voice. Sample some of her music. But she is gone waay too soon. May she RIP! Prayers to her family.

Teena Marie was truly a trailblazer in an era where that word is often times used too loosely. She took hold of her career, producing, writing, and playing instruments (notice it being plural) long before it was fashionable for female artists to do so. Her music was sensual, not sexual, and she didn't have to sell her soul in order to be noticed. She could out-sing probably all of the top 10 most successful female artists of all time. She could have been more successful had she crossed over and made more pop-friendly hits, but she wasn't interested in any of that. She stayed true to herself, and that is why the ones who do know who she is love and respect her. The original shorty, Casper, Lil' Bit, Vanilla Child…RIP Teena.
