Reggie Bush Confused About Homophobia On Twitter

reggie-bush-confused-about-homophobia-on-twitter.jpg

Here we go again.

Another celeb has used Twitter to display some pretty ignorant and, in our opinion, homophobic remarks.

New Orleans Saints NFL player Reggie Bush posted this question on his Twitter:

If someone says "no homo," is that offensive towards gay people?

Really?! REALLY?!

He then went on to add:

And only reason I asked was because it's become a pretty popular phrase. I just wondered what the general feeling was from people about it

I'm offending people by asking? Lol! C'Mon Son! Missed me with that one! People way too sensitive these days. SMH!

It's not unreasonable for people to be "sensitive" to a clearly homophobic remark such as "no homo."

Come on, Reggie, please tell us you know better than that.

      you are TOO DAMN SENSITIVE!!!

    2. 8904 says – reply to this

      2

he was just asking a question?
not everything people say has to be taken so seriously
out of everyone you should know that

    3. 3

He's right, people are way too sensitive. If you make any religious, race, gender, or class jokes/slurs/comments then you have absolutely no room to talk. I think that just about cancels everyone out, including the LGBT community.

    4. 4

I don't understand how that is him being homophobic. I agree, some people are too sensitive and constantly just looking for an excuse to attack people. Ridiculous.

    5. 5

Cmon Perez. R U serious? He was being honest and asking a question. It is a very common phrase in the urban/hip-hop community, made popular by the likes of Kanye West. Go start on him for perpetuating the ignorance,

Reggie didn't come from a place of disrespect so get over it!! It is just a phrase used by insecure straight men to compliment another man's physical appearance but still asserting his hetero sexual orientation. Silly and ignorant, yes, but it's not offensive IMO. My gay friends are NOT bothered by that at all. There are worse things to be angry about.

    6. 6

Are you an idiot? He never said it was unreasonable to be offended by the phrase "no homo" he said it was unreasonable to be offended by someone asking if it offensive to say it.

Perez, you are single handedly setting back the gay community by at least 10 years.

    7. 7

ugh gay people are more than homos. the word homo does not need to be an adjective to describe gay people. when two straight men compliament eachother it is always evident that they are straight. people don't confuse that, there is no need for a nohomo.

    8. 8

okay now this is going to far. how is that offensive? when people say "no homo" they mean that what they are saying shouldnt be taken sexually, especially between two males. perez you are fucking ridiculous if you think that is offensive. thats about as offensive as a gay guy saying "I AM NOT STRAIGHT" but of course, according to you that would be okay. that is not offensive unless they clearly make it a point to be offensive. grow up.

    9. 9

what the hell does it mean

    10. 10

Really Perez?! REALLY?! Yes "No Homo" is offensive, but he was honestly just asking a question. He didnt intentionally mean to offend anyone. So take a chill pill. People are allowed to be curious.

    11. 11

WOW. people like you are part of the problem. He's clearly asking because he doesn't want to say something that is offensive. There is nothing wrong about wanting to know what's wrong and what's right

    12. 12

They guy dated Kim Kardashian so he obviously isn't too bright.

    13. 13

Oh for Gods sake, he right, everyone is so stupidly sensitive these day. And I have to say it maining dumbass Americans who can make something so innocently said into some great scandal. No wonder there are anti gays out there…. thay cant say anything without it being twisted into something its not.

    14. Dunny says – reply to this

      14

The term "No Homo" is NOT offensive and the dude just asked a question so chill out. And I AM gay, "No Homo" is a slang, you say it after a sentence that may be misconstrued as gay.

    15. 15

No he wasn't Perez! Your such an over sensitive idiot! He wasn't trying to be rude, he was just asking a question.

    16. 16

He was only asking. He is clearly not gay so he doesn't know if it is offensive or not. I think it shows he is mature because he probably doesn't know if he says it if he is offending anyone. So maybe he asked because he wants to make sure he doesnt offend anyone. I think the gay media is taking things way to far.

    17. 17

Reggie : "Is "Ni*ger" offensive to black people?"
It is obviously true that Reggie was admitted to USC for his athletic ability and not his brains. Oh yeah that's right he fucked up in football and had to give back the Heisman trophy as well.

    18. 18

      Everyone all together now… and a 1 and a 2 and a 3… NO HOMO!

    19. 19

It's insensitive if you are saying purely to offend people. If you're simply asking so you can avoid offending people, well then you're just ignorant.

    20. 20

      how about cocksucker?

    21. 21

I jerked off to his pic before. He's one of the only black people I find sexually attractive.

    22. 22

i'm with reggie on this one… lighten up! no homo is simply a phrase that is used in the rap world. lil wayne says it all the time. i am in no way shape or form homophobic. some of my best friends are gay and lesbian… they dont find the phrase no homo offesnive so why should you. chill out people. get in the know.

    23. 23

Hi Perez. You are my favorite blogger and always will be. However, I really do not feel that Reggie Bush's question was a "homophobic remark". I think he was simply asking a question in order to get the opinions of others.

For example, I have many friends who are of a different religion from myself and I am able to learn more about their religion by simply asking them.

Another thing, you did not post his tweet in its entirety. Before posting those last two tweets he said, "I think if the "no homo" comment offends anybody then it's most likely better left unsaid along with other degrading words…thanks guys!".

Perez, you should always post someone's entire tweet because the manner in which you posted it would make people think of Reggie Bush as being ignorant and lacking sensitivity for the LGBT community, but he is sensitive to this particular community (as clearly evident in his tweet).

Sometimes the best way for others to be educated on such a sensitive topic is to ask questions, as Reggie Bush did. Wouldn't you prefer for someone to ask you if a certain remark is offensive instead of assuming that it is not? I respect Reggie for posting this question so those who reads his tweets can see that people find it offensive. Hopefully, this will make people think twice before making such a comment.

    24. 24

He was not directing that comment at any one. He was asking a question because he has heard many people use it and thought it was weird cause no one has made a bid deal….Sorry Perez but the whole world does not revolve around the gay community…he was just asking…why are you trying to make everybody homophobic….damn calm down…

    25. 25

Perez please calm down its not that serious its just a question, he's asking for opinions so now the correct response to that; instead of being over dramatic, is too let him know how you feel with out being rude or insulting. just say yes it offends me it may not offend everyone but it offends me. so have some patients please

    26. 26

how is he being homophobic???? you are too sensitive stop thinking everyone is homophobic!

    27. LxMxO says – reply to this

      27

People need to grow a thicker skin. I am so annoyed with all of the crybabies out there. What the hell? Grow a pair and suck it up. It was a simple question. Even if it wasn’t, it’s his right to say whatever he wants. It doesn’t have to make you feel good about yourself. If you don’t like something, don’t look at it. It’s not that hard.

    28. 28

Perez, get over yourself already. He was ASKING A QUESTION!

      Yeesh

    29. 29

      whatta dumbass.

    30. 30

      Dear Perez,

      STOP BITCHING OVER LITTLE THINGS!

I'm gay and I dont find this offensive!

    31. 31

I LOVE how you purposely left out what else he said…
"I think if the "no homo" comment offends anybody then it's most likely better left unsaid along with other degrading words…thanks guys!"
You are the start of many unnecessary dramatic situations.

    32. 32

I've never felt the need to comment on anything on this site. But, I have to on this one. Reggie Bush was clearly just being respectful by asking. Somewhat how you, Perez, post polls on different celebrities asking our opinion that some, sensitive, people could find offensive. He did nothing wrong in the least bit.

    33. 33

It is offensive to you to say "no coloreds"

    34. 34

Every hear the saying, " the only stupid question is the one you don't ask".
He was asking a question, that's all. At least he is concerned about offending people by using a term that has become common for some people.

    35. 35

perez, i understand what you're saying, but you need to be a little less sensitive… his remarks were in no way meant to be offensive

    36. 36

At least he cared to ask. He honestly didn't know, and you shouldn't punish him for that. Rather, you should be thankful that he is humbling himself and giving an earnest attempt to be respectful to the gay community. I'm sorry everyone isn't psychic, knowing exactly what does and doesn't offend. I'd even wager to say there are members of the gay community who aren't offended at all by the statement "no homo", but that's beside the point.

    37. 37

Saying no homo makes you extra homo.

    38. 38

I'm so tired of everyone being so oversensitive. He was just asking a question. stop crying wolf!

    39. 39

If I said "Ecce Homo!" would that upset you too Mario?

    40. 40

um this is ridiculous. too damn sensitive is right on this one..

    41. 41

Sometimes people JUST DON'T KNOW. Instead of getting mad, EDUCATE.

    42. 42

i love when straight people think we dont have a right to be offended. thanks for nothing.

    43. 43

Good thing your opinion doesn't matter. No homo means "not in a gay way" not "no gays allowed". He's not homophobic, you're just a shit stirrer.

    44. 44

Thanks Perez, I'm gonna say no homo more often. You've done your part!

    45. 45

ARE YOU KIDDING. if anything he was being the opposite of ignorant and homophobic by asking an honest question to start a dialogue. wow, perez, you can't even hear any word that relates to the gay community without branding someone "homophobic" for saying it. It is you who is ignorant.

    46. 46

wow! those sensitive ppl need to grow up. He's asking a question, if you're offended then say so and then I'm sure he would take the measures necessary to make sure he doesnt use that phrase. See how simple that is??

    47. 47

Oh my Fckin God, Reggie Bush is hot for his own good. Yes Homo!
Ahem…On topic: He's right, People are a little too sensitive and he only asked a question.

    48. vaaka says – reply to this

      48

      Perez, you are severely retarded.

    49. 49

To all the inefficacious people above me: what gives you a right to tell a gay person what's offensive and what isn't offensive to them? With that being said, it doesn't sound homophobic to me personally– just stupid.

    50. 50

      He asked a question.

That isn't homophobic. Not in the least.

    51. 51

At least he was asking about the phrase and hopefully he will not use it.

    52. 52

This post is RIDICULOUS! I'm not sure how you think he was being homophobic. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you posted about this, because you are always playing the victim! I made a username just to comment on this post and given the chance that you see this to tell you to balls up. Quit trying to make something out of nothing on a slow news day.

    53. 53

Re: unknownactor1975 – Haha. Took the words right out of my mouth.

    54. 54

Re: Dunny – So when Pumpkinhead Mario called Will.I.Am a f*cking f*ggot, should he have then added "No homo."?

    55. 55

perez he was asking a question
and i agree people are way too sensitive
i think everyone needs to man up

    56. 56

words are offensive and powerful because people make them that way
      calm down silly

    57. 57

ugh i gotta stop reading this crap again. im gonna go upstairs and take my homo shower and eat my homo dinner and go to my homo new years eve party. #yeshomo.

    58. 58

      Re: unknownactor1975 – There's a difference, Jackass.
'No homo' isn't homophobic. Its not used to put down gays in any way. Its used by straight guys to make clear that there comments shouldn't be taken as a pass. For example, One guy may say to another "Nice outfit, you look really good. No homo." No harm done.

Not to mention, Perez left out the most important part. "I think if the 'no homo' comment offends anybody then it's most likely better left unsaid along with other degrading words…thanks guys!"-Reggie

How did I know someone would RUSH to throw the N-word into the conversation. Typical lol

    59. 59

and btw ive never once been offended by the phrase not gay. no homo hits me differently. go figure.

    60. 60

I think you are being way too sensitive about this. He was asking because it is a common phrase. He wasn't being overly homophobic or anything like that. Its ridiculous to think that he is some kind of homophobe because of a question that seems to be a honest question.

    61. 61

its just a question… he wasnt being intentionally or outright homophobic.

    62. VGirl says – reply to this

      62

I guess some people may think/ feel that it is homophobic…but please he was just asking, maybe he really didn't know. Hey I didn't know it was offensive. Plus, I´ve heard gay people say things like (to people of other sex) I'm not straight but you look hot7 beautiful whatever…. so I it could be something like that, no offensive.

    63. 63

Wow Perez, because someone wants to be educated on a word, makes this homophobic? Isn't that what everyone is wanting, equality? In order to obtain equality, you need UNDERSTANDING. Thats like a white woman asking if 'Porch Monkey' is racist. Just because some general people know, doesn't mean everyone knows. If you think this remark is homophobic, I really suggest taking a look in the mirror, because it seems like you want to make EVERYONE homophobic.

    64. 64

He asked before he began using the term, which shows he's sensitive to the "plight" of homosexuals and DOESN'T want to offend.
I asked my gay best friend today is "mangina" was offensive because of the transgendered guy's video about Ke$ha from the other day, and he said he found the term to be quite hilarious. Guess it just depends who you're asking, though.

    65. 65

What a stupid question showing he's a hypocrite. Imagine if someone asked him, "Is it okay if I say No N***er?" He'd go ballistic!

    66. GG78 says – reply to this

      66

is saying "no n*****" racist ??

    67. 67

Gosh, one can't even honestly ask a question anymore? If someone had come at him with an intelligent, "Yes, it is offensive because A and B," maybe he would have stopped using the term. Now, not only has everyone missed their chance to educate a man when he WANTED to be educated, now this guy who wanted to learn has got everyone whining at him because he asked an honest question.

    68. 68

You need to calm the fuck down
he didnt insult anyone he asked a question.
You will turn people off of gays so much if you continue this.

    69. 69

As a gay man, I am personally not offended by "no homo." I actually thought it was hilarious when I first heard it. Now, I know that its my opinion…and others may share, but there is definitely others that do not. We need to stop being too sensitive to others words, he simply asked a question…the same questions when I first heard of it. I understand Perez is bringing awareness to Gay rights, and spotlighting negative comments made by celebrities…but something like this unnecessary. Especially coming from the man that outs celebrities, and post nude photos of them as well. He is a worse representation of the gay community, then the negative connotations of "no homo." Living in Los Angeles and frequenting events and or clubs that Perez frequents…I've witnessed first hand the backlash this man receives. So once and for all, I wish he would just STOP.

    70. 70

Re: Kariiiiiinaaa – you will turn people off of gays if you continue this? i'm sorry but is that not a bit bitchy on your part?

    71. 71

IM not sure how he would feel about this… its just a question so dont get mad! Reggie, does no Ni**er, offend you?? I was just wondering

    72. 72

obvi you ”forget” to mention that he also tweeted:

I think if the "no homo" comment offends anybody then it's most likely better left unsaid along with other degrading words…thanks guys!

      clearly NOT homophobic…

    73. 73

Re: JasonDiggy – I bet you won't say it to his face….ahhahaha!

    74. 74

Would that dumbass ask if "no coons" is insensitive?

    75. 75

      just a pretty face

    76. 76

Re: unknownactor1975 – you're so friggin stupid. i agree with everything the other people already responded to you.
you're too stupid for words. and should remain that way: UNKNOWN.

    77. 77

Yeah, don't think he'd be so down if it was a race issue.

    78. 78

perez, why don't you answer your comments when you KNOW you're wrong? 99.9% of the comments here are defending the guy. i think you own reggie an apology. for real.

    79. 79

WOW. No homo is not offensive at all! You're ridiculous! All this stuff about being politically correct just separates people MORE. Saying what you can and can't joke about just continues to DIVIDE us. I'm sure no gay people make fun of straight people….yeah right. To people that are offended by 'no homo' I say get over yourself. Perez, you really need to take a look at this before getting upset and posting things like the article above.

    80. 80

i'm gay…but he was just asking a damn question..? WHO CARES?!

    81. 81

Jesus Christ Perez, do you need a box of kleenex? All you fucking do is cry about how homophobic the world is. You can never take anything light-heartedly, you always have to look at things the wrong way. Not all homosexuals have the same feelings as you. It's self-righteous homos like you that piss me off, thank God for Will.I.Am.

    82. 82

How the hell is what he said homophobic? How is saying "no homo" homophobic either? I have gay family members and close friends. I support gay rights, but really… he's right, people are FAR too sensitive.
By saying "no homo" its just letting someone know, hey I'm not hitting on you, I'm giving you a compliment. What is so wrong with that? Ive heard gay people use that term!!!

He was simply asking a question.
You need some serious mental help Perez, you seem to hate yourself deep down for being gay it sounds like. You are VERY insecure with it. WHO gives a shit, why should you care who is a 'homophobe" if you are happy with yourself! I wouldn't! I'd be like "least I'm happy".

This shit needs to change, I dont have any problems with gays… but I'm tired of hearing about gay discrimination everyday, everywhere. Shut the fuck up about it already, quit being whinny bitches and live your life, stop worrying about what other people think. No one needs to know who is fucking who. Straight or gay.

    83. 83

Re: JasonDiggyRe: rufusaRe: GG78Re: sindin42 – are you all stupid????????????? the expression "no homo" isn't as in "no homosexuals allowed" but saying that when two people same sex exchange some words of affection it isn't in a homosexual way. like if i tell my chick friend "damn girl, you're looking hot…no homo!". you people must be really stupid. always having to put the race in the middle. what if he was white, what would be your excuse? fucking bitches.

    84. 84

your such a loser perez. same with E! news

    85. 85

So, the gay guy who once called a straight man a f** in order to insult him is now angry at a different straight male because he asked what "no homo" means? Hmm, someone's a little hypocritical. At least Reggie is making sure he knows if it's an insult or not before using it in order to not offend someone. I consider that a good thing. Also, I do not take offense to this saying, and I happen to be gay as well. Stop getting pissed off at every little thing, Perez.

    86. 86

While I'm usually on the same page as you, Perez I completely disagree on this one. He was simply asking a question (one that I'm actually curious about, as well). He wasn't being a jerk, douche, etc. Genuine questions deserve genuine answers. Period.

    87. 87

      I'm gay and not offended… I just don't get it…

    88. 88

Not a stupid question. I don't see it as homophobic to ask. Stop it, Perez.

    89. 89

He was just curious what others reactions may be the phrase. Quit being so fucking sensitive.

    90. 90

i don't know–the way i read it, he seemed like he was actually asking what everyone's viewpoint on it was. i don't think it's homophobic to question something that you might not be sure of? people could enlighten him instead of calling him a homophobe.

    91. 91

Re: carolhellton – It shows how coked up you are. Saying "No Homo" implies there's something wrong with being…uh…homo…not to mention the term "homo" is insulting. If the person was OK with gays, they wouldn't give a damn if someone thought they were "homo." Dumb-ass!

    92. 92

People ARE WAY too sensitive about this.

    93. 93

There used to be a lot of popular "phrases" said by many around the 50's and 60's with regards to African Americans like Reggie Bush. Perhaps he isn't sensitive to those "phrases" anymore. Let's ask him…

    94. 94

Wow. Seriously. Lets not all be so sensitive, Come on Perez. Now if you can say you get offended from the 'No homo' because you're a homosexual, then using that same thinking every single human being could draw offense, since human beings are taxonomically called Homo Sapiens. Just because you're gay doesn't mean you're the only "homo" in the universe.

    95. 95

Certain people are way too sensitive, but that has to be one the dumbest phrases to become popular. Guys who use it sound like idiots. It just sounds stupid.

    96. barb says – reply to this

      96

shut up perez you are a pervert pig and he's just askin a question. You are so so so child like senitive now. You can bully but can't take it.

    97. 97

Lighten up, man whats so wrong with that asking a question. You should be glad that he brought up a subject and opened up a discussion whether it is offensive or not. Clearly its becoming quite popular and people are using the phrase nonchalantly.

    98. 98

For someone who talks so much ish about people, you are such a cry baby!!! You act like a high school GIRL, bully and then get mad at someone asking if "no homo" is offensive. Absolutely ridiculous. Just wondering, do you and your gay friends say "No hetero"??? Like if you give a girl a compliment that sounds like you might be straight? That would be hilarious. You should start. I bet the heteros won't be offended.

    99. 99

Re: JasonDiggy – oh please. are YOU gay? no, you must be. either that or you're one of those extremely sensitive, annoying people that no one wants to be around. no, really. look at all the comments. you really, REALLY think you're right? please. PLEASE. you need to look at yourself in the mirror before you call someone a dumb ass. dumb ass.

    100. 100

Re: pienadoRe: unknownactor1975 – Lighten up. He was just asking a question, he wasn't trying offend anyone. And you cannot compare "no homo" to the "N" word. No homo isn't an attack to gays, all it means is that, for example, if I told a girl she looks hot tonight, I'll say *no homo* to let her know I'm straight, I don't mean it like that. Whereas the "N" word, is used as an derogatory term for people of African American descent. I'll say F***** is more comparable to the "N" word because they're both derogatory terms towards two groups of people. No homo? Hardly.
