america watches more tv in 2010 than ever before

Congratulations, America!

According to Nielsen, more Americans watched TV in 2010 than ever before.

Looks like, as a whole, we're watching 34 hours per person per week.

During 2010, we went crazy over Hawaii Five-O, Glee, and Fox News (yes, we watched way more Fox News than CNN or MSNBC).

Aside from all of that, we've also started watching "trash-into-treasure" reality shows, such as Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Auction Kings, Auction Hunters, AND Storage Wars.

Guess we'll see if we watch EVEN more TV in 2011 OR maybe we'll go outside a little more often if we can get the TV cable to reach outside.

How much TV do U watch per week? Less than the average? More?

that's not a reason to feel proud!!! a reason to feel proud is that the people of the united states would read more!!! damn…the tv can fry your brains unless you watch discovery channel and shit like that.

Only a couple of hours if that for a movie here and there, I'm afraid, along with the evening news the odd day and a peek at the weather channel. The computer rules in my world.

And that's WHY Americans are FAT FAT pigs!! Get away from the TV and get your asses outside for some exercise!! PERIOD!!

Just two things: I´m peruvian and since I´m from southAMERICA I think I´m american too. America is not a country, it´s a freaking continent!. Second, watching 34 hours per person per week is NOT something to be proud of!

    Not much at all.
I got rid of my cable and keep netflix. Even then I don't watch it that much.

34 HOURS A WEEK!!! That is only 6 hours away from a full time job! No wonder this country gets fatter, lazier and dumber every year. I almost want to question the legitimacy of this study. It's unbelievable.

Re: 6one9 – Not ALL Americans. The obesity rate in the U.S. is 30.6 percent, Mexico 24.2 %, and 14.3 % in Canada.
    Re: jazzlima93 – Peru - Males - 17.5% Females 31.5%.

  11. 11

What is he congratulating? The fact that more and more americans are sitting on their asses? No wonder this country is full of fatties!

  12. 12

How is this happening? TV sucks these days.

  13. 13

I think people are watching more tv because that's all that they can afford to do. Cable is cheaper then say going to the movies or taking the family bowling. Just a thought.

Re: MsJules – Pretty sure that is sarcasm, dummy.

  15. 15

    This is a good thing?
I don't watch much TV. I'm more of an computer person.

  16. 16

I've actually given up TV completely in the last few months, it just happened totally organically, and I feel so much more content with what I have, and am evolving much less of a "consumer mindset." Of course I still need to keep up with pop culture (waste time) so I'm on the computer a lot more now.

  17. 17

This is one reason half of America is obese. Too much sitting. Sitting and watching TV and sitting in front of the computer!

  18. 18

Haha, no wonder why you're all so fat

  19. 19

Wow sad, I rarely ever watch tv and if I do I'll wath animal
Planet, but that's about it haha

Re: 6one9 – obesity will still exist, Msg and High Fructose corn syrup will still be in the majority of everything we eat.

  21. 21

How is that even possible? Mind you, I spend a lot of time at the computer surfing the net….

  22. 22

I don't believe this poll for one minute, If anything its thee complete opposite, the internet is destroying television, and so is 100 dollar cable bills in a crap economy and people are sick of lamestream media lying to them.

  23. 23

That's because more people are unemployed and has nothing else to do.

  24. 24

This is not something people should be proud of, it's why Americans are obese!

  25. 25

i don't get how we're watching more tv than ever when the highest rated tv shows now compared to 15-20 years ago are low.

there was a time when ER averaged way over 20 million when it was the #1 hospital drama (actually it was the #1 show period). Grey's Anatomy is averaging this season like 11-13 million….

Re: jazzlima93 – There is no other word to describe people from the US. People from Canada are called Canadian and people from Mexico are called Mexican, but there isn't a specific word for the US. You are PERUVIAN. Just because they use the word American does not mean they are referring to the continent, there is just no other word. What should we call them, "United Statesians"? It's not that fucking hard to understand.
