They certainly are committed, aren't they?

Despite injuries to four different cast members, the cast of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is standing by the musical and firing back at the show's critics.

Tony Award-winning Alice Ripley recently said that the production is "embarrassing to working actors everywhere…Does someone have to die?"

However, one of the stars of the show, Reeve Carney says that the production "appreciates everyone's concern for our safety" and adds:

"It's an athletic event so you know that there's a certain amount of risk involved. The people on are crew are amazing; they care for our safety every day … we do trust them."

Ha. That doesn't sound very convincing.

Patrick Page, another star, says though that he wishes "they could be in the building with us and see the care [director Julie Taymor] takes and the care that our producer Michael Cole takes. I think they'd feel a lot better." He also says that the Actors' Equity Association is on set "virtually all the time."

Even Christopher Tierney, the stunt man who suffered from four broken ribs and three cracked vertebrae after falling 30 feet into the pit, says that he hopes to return to the show once he recovers. "The moment I feel I am good, I am back in that show," he said. "I can't wait."

Wow. Well, obviously the cast believes in the show and their production crew and is willing to go the extra mile.

We're not sure if we'd be so brave.

Julie Taymor can do no wrong (only on occasion).

It's obvious all the actors in this play are amateurs and has never been in the spotlight at all. Responding to critics/Taking what they say to hard? LOL yeah. They don't know what their doing. They will drive themselves crazy going on to google themselves to read all the bad stuff thats said.

I saw the show yesterday. FANTASTIC visuals. Music/Lyrics are nothing to write home about but as a whole it is a great show. Nothing but applause for the acrobatics. I was least impressed with Reeve's vocals. Why Alice Ripley would want her 'daughter' from Next to Normal Jen Damiano (Mary Jane) to be unemployed is beyond me. Do some crew members need to be fired/remediated? Absolutely. But should the show be shut down because stuntmen get hurt? I think not.

I think they should have gotten some of the Cirque Du Soleil people to work with them, because those are REAL trained acrobats, and they have a WHOLE lot more injuries during some of their rehearsals than this show does. They really could have helped Julie and the rest of the cast out in designing the stunts and acrobats so it could have been a lot safer
