And we hope it passes!
As Gov. Lincoln Chafee takes office, gay rights advocates will reintroduce a bill in Rhode Island’s House on Thursday to legalize marriage equality.
According to Rep. Arthur Handy, he has already lined up 27 co-sponsors and hopes to get get more. But the bill will be reintroduced on Thursday no matter how many supporters are on board
Openly gay House Speaker Gordon D. Fox is the bill’s other lead sponsor. The reason for the House's early vote is to do it before budget concerns become an issue.
“When marriage equality is the law in Rhode Island, we honor our forefathers who risked their lives and fortune in the pursuit of human equality,” said Chafee, during his speech after being sworn in.
Amazing! Just what we like to hear!
