Good!

NYC Mayor Bloomberg made $35 million in cuts recently and that money was taken away from several homeless youth organizations including the Ali Forney Center, which specifically caters to LGBT youth.

Thanks to several organizations around the country, in addition to Lew Fidler, Speaker Christine Quinn and the New York City Council, the funds have been restored!

Carl Siciliano, Executive Director of the Ali Forney Center, said:

"This news comes just a few days after Mayor Bloomberg released what many saw as a hypocritical video message to LGBT teens telling them that 'it gets better.'

These cuts would absolutely not have been restored were it not for the hundreds who have stood up and told their story. So, congratulations to all of you who have stood up and spoken up about who you are. This is a victory for all of us."

Amazing! Equality for all!

"…which specifically caters to LGBT youth."

How is that equality? Sounds like SPECIAL treatment, not EQUAL treatment.

    Re: ba-buttons

Very good point. Will they turn away kids who are not LGBT?

  4. 4

How about the OTHER youth homeless centers, did they get back their money?

…I sure hope that ALL the funds were returned to ALL the groups. Just because you belong to the LGBT community doesn't mean you should get "special treatment." Because that is what this is. Equality is making sure that ALL of these kids get help. Not JUST the LGBT. Sad Sad world we live in. :(

you people have selective hearing. The article says REFUND, that the mayor took money FROM the LGBT. There's no "special" treatment they RETURNED the money that was TAKEN from the LGBT Youth. quit acting like your stupid parents!!!!!

    Re: Spanishphly

YOU have selective hearing! The money was taken away from several different youth centers and was only refunded to the center "specially catering" to LGBT youth. That's special treatment - NOT equality.

YOU have selective hearing. Money was taken away from several centers and the only one that got money back was the one "specially catering" to LGBT youth. Thats NOT equality, that's special treatment.

Taking the funds away equalled 'it gets better', for THEM. So what else is new.
Glad they got them back, but I wonder where they're going to come from. Fire up the printing press.
