History Channel Pulls The Kennedys

Poor Katie!

A&E Television Network has pulled the plug on their new miniseries, The Kennedys, claiming the series was "not a fit" for The History Channel.

The miniseries, which stars Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes as JFK and Jackie O., was the most expensive program ever for the network and was highly-anticipated. However, it was also embroiled in controversy after it was considered inaccurate by Kennedy historians.

A rep for the network said:

"Upon completion of the production of The Kennedys, History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries on the network. While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.

We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series, but ultimately deem this as the right programming decision for our network."

The project may not be dead yet as other cable networks, such as Showtime, may still pick up the miniseries.

Do U think this was the right move from The History Channel?? Or bad idea?

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS IS THERE WAS WAAAY TOO MUCH EMBELLISHMENT FOR THE HISTORY CHANNEL, LMAO!! SOUNDS LIKE THEY DINT STICK TO THE FACTS. MORONS.

  2. 2

If kennedy historians said it is inaccurate than it's probably for the best that it doesn't air. I'm a history major and if I watched something historically inaccurate on the History Channel than i would lose respect for the people running the channel and it would probably lose credibility

  3. 3

stupid of the H channel, it probably told some truth they didnt want to get shit for…Im dying to see Katie as Jackie O!!! i hope they put it on another channel, and fast!!!

  4. 4

It kind of sucks. I was looking forward to seeing it, but I could never find out when it was going to air so it made me wonder.

  5. 5

Their explanation makes perfect sense - it's a fictional retelling, so it's not a strictly historical representation. Not History Channel standards, because it's fiction.

  6. 6

Sounds pretty fishy if you ask me. I'm sure that Republican party influence $$$ has nothing to do with this.

  7. 7

nope that's not true, it was the kennedy family that wanted them to stop the show. because they said too much… they stopped it only in the US, we will let you know as soon as it airs in my Country.

  8. 8

Yeah… like everything the History Channel airs is 100% historically accurate. I bet Showtime picks it up.

  9. 9

oh good, this series belongs in Bravo or Lifetime or OWN anyway! :-) Go Katie!

  10. 10

It's probably because it showed futuristic moments of Sarah Palin humping Dick Cheney's shriveled, herpes-infested, flaccid "member of congress."

  11. 11

Katies career has really gone to shit since she turned The Dark Knight…..

  12. 12

the report on it was flaky, like the kennedys had some say, BUT, the kennedys have lost their power, so, not it, and as for the republican party as one poster says ??????? Yes, the History C, not 100% acurate, but it sounded like HOLLYWOOD TOOK the Miniseries WAY TO THE LAND OF FICTION. Because, if it is about affairs, the mob, Marilyn, etc. its been all said. Got to be SOO OFF BASE, too off base to air as acurate.

  13. 13

They stuck to the facts. People were upset that it contained facts about his numerous affairs. Its probably 10 times more realistic than Oliver stones movie about Bush and showtime's movie about Reagan

  14. 14

i think it was both the kennedys and kennedy historians who said many facts were inaccurate. probably a good idea that the history channel doesn't air it. i must say though, since she married tom cruise, whatever was left of katie's career has officially gone down the crapper.

Come on. The History Channel isn't known for their historically accurate programming. They show shit like Ice Truckers. THAT'S NOT FUCKING HISTORY.

  16. 16

Kennedy? Wasn't that the name of one of the original Peyton Place families?

  17. 17

Wow, I'm impressed! If only all forms of media were willing to take a stand and command honesty and ethics.

  18. 18

Re: Kate – that's not the point that is being made here. Two different issues. OBVIOUSLY Ice Road Truckers isn't a historical show. They have the right to air things that aren't "histroy".

  19. 19

Have you read any of this script? Omg.

This doesn't belong on the History Channel, it belongs on the Soap network. It is absolute trash.

    Excerpts:

Jack: What do you do when you're horny? I mean, how can you stand the boredom?

    Bobby: I love Ethel.

Jack: I love lobster, but not every night. If I don't have some strange ass every couple of days, I get migraines.

    —–

    Yes, that's really in there.

    Among other things.

This isn't history, this is shit, and if they wanted to make a mockumentary on the Kennedy's sex life, there are better venues for that.

Just the fact that the History Channel's own statement said, "HISTORICAL FICTION" tells me I don't want to watch it. How can fiction be historical?

I have no interest in watching something that is "HISTORICAL" but is filled with made up bullshit to make the movie sell or get people to watch.

  21. 21

Re: Kelly Ohl – Yes, Kelly . . . Thanks for sharing that. Documentaries belong on the history channel, not reenactments!

    22

The History Channel should be presenting historically accurate and factual information. I'm surprised they didn't have the script reviewed by reputable historians before they shot it.

Straight to DVD. Once I watch the thing, I hope to see why they rejected it as too much fiction.

  24. 24

There is a God. No Katie Holmes or Tom Cruise to deal with.

    25

the history channel shows some real crap too. ww2 obsessed- and some loud american yapping on about ancient egypt. sounds like the kennedys are not happy about this!

  26. 26

It will come out sometimes this year on DVD.

    Not history channel material.

  27. 27

    Why is it not accurate??
    Who f*cked up??
I was really looking forward to it.

  28. 28

It's up to them whether they air it or not. I'm sure it'll be on dvd one day. No worries.

  29. 29

Re: Demode – You're an idiot.

  30. 30

    Re: Pacific Ocean Gal

Um… historical fiction is legitimate. Think of BBC/HBO's Rome. The story is based on real people and events, but there are non-existent characters in it.

  31. 31

Why did they go into it, then?

  32. Gaz says – reply to this

Can't the producers include a disclaimer that says "for entertainment purposes only? " LOLz.
