Awkward! The Vatican Knew Nothing About Discovery's New Exorcism Series

vatican had no idea about exorcist show on discovery

Umm…we WERE intrigued by this when it seemed like it was real.

Last week, we reported that Discovery Channel was partnering with The Vatican for The Exorcist Files, a show which would recreate documented stories of real-life hauntings and demonic possession, based on cases found in the Vatican’s exclusive case files.

The Vatican doesn't seem to be on the same page as Discovery though. Here's what Monsignor Paul Tighe had to say about it:

"They (Discovery) may have had contact with some individual, but we've had no contact with Discovery here."

Vatican officials have said that the Church has "no official involvement with the series," and that the Vatican "does not even have a group of exorcists."

Here's what a rep from Discovery had to say in response:

“[We are] working with Catholic priests at parishes all over the world for the show and look forward to telling their stories.”

So, no more Vatican AT ALL? What's the deal, Discovery?

The Vatican denied pedophile priests also, but it has continued throughout the years. Did you know that the Catholic Church in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, allows their parishioners and priests to perform blood sacrifices? The large Mayan population cannot grasp "the blood of Christ" without sacrificing a living entity; in this case, a chicken.

of COURSE there are exorcists in the Catholic church! The Catholics love keeping so much shiz on the downlow, I swear.

And, if anyone, really understood about demonic possession, it is far more subtle and common than the great one in a million drama that everyone loves because putting on a show turns us on! Wake up people!

The Vatican has always kept its distance from this sort of thing. Maybe they're like the C..I..A.. and prefer to pretend that this arm doesn't exist. Individual priests likely help parishioners out out of empathy, even if to offer a placebo pill to help, and to keep frightened people in the fold, and maybe to drive out whatever should it actually be there. It's an intangible and iffy business.
