While President Obama gave his address from the Arizona Memorial Service on Wednesday, 30.8 million people tuned in!

That is up 29.23 million who watched the address on Iraq in August.

According to the Nielsen ratings, the speech averaged 30,773,369 on seven networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox, Fox News and MSNBC) when it aired live at 8:45pm.

We love that everyone comes together in a time of need!

Sadly, I think half that audience was hoping to catch Obama in a gaffe. This kumbaya (spell) will last like a snowball in hell.

  2. 2

they listened to him hijack a tragedy and use the crises to score political points.

  3. 3

they listened to him hijack a tragedy and use the crisis to score political points.

  4. 4

I was watching because it was the Memorial Service NOT for Obama

  5. 5

This is all smoke and mirrors followed by more loss of freedom. If thinking outside what the government dictates makes me a conspiracy theorist then bring it on. When they start messing with nature and weather you know things are in grave danger.

  6. 6

I think that most Americans — right or left — would like their president to represent the county well in a time of crisis and to reflect the nation's sadness at what has happened. In some ways, I think Obama did that. That being said, the cheering and chanting, etc., seemed really out of place and disrespectful at a memorial service. There are people whose lives have been literally blown apart by this — cheering isn't appropriate. Obama could have stopped it, but didn't.

  7. 7

They behaved like they were at a pep rally. This was a memorial not a political rally for his next campaign. Disgusting.

Re: pghamy – I think you missed the point. They weren't cheering at a funeral, it was more of a comforting cheer. i swear, ppl will complain about anything. they were honoring the survivors and remembering the fallen. but, hey, i guess i want attend your funeral.

  9. 9

They were just waiting for Modern Family to start.

  10. 10

Not me, I changed the channel as quickly as I could.

  11. 11

Why is Obama a hero simply for aknowledging a tragedy???? And I am not suprised that Obama supporters would cheer at a memorial, clearly inappropriate.

  12. 12

Who shouts and claps at a memorial service. To me, seeing the people in campaign looking tshirts and cheering Obama, was just a bit strange for a memorial service. I like Obama less now than I did last week and so do many others that I have spoken with.

Why did Obama go to this? There are children murdered every day and he does not go to their memorial services.

My fellow Americans are suffering with $3.30 per gallon of gas and $4.00 gallons of milk. Why couldn't he and his frigging teleprompter stay home and save the money?

  13. 13

It was hijacked to become a political rally.

  14. 14

They are listening and are appalled. They are no longer charmed by him.

  15. 15

Who are any of us to comment if the cheering was right or wrong?? The people in that arena had lived with the tragedy for days. It was a memorial service for them. The right is so filled with hatred. If Jesus and the Founding Fathers appeared today, they would be disgusted by the Teabaggers and their distorted belief systems.

    Re: FlossieBangcock
Your ugliness and depravity is reflected in your wildly inappropriate comment you are offensive to ALL GOOD AMERICANS who want what is best for our country.

Your comment does NOT reflect the best of America Right or Left. Mr. Obama is our President we want him to represent the Country well at a memorial service. I don't like or agree with his politics–I may question the content of his character at times this has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN.

This was NOT A POLITICAL rally it was a memorial service–it wasn't about Mr. Obama. He did a good job representing all Americans but should have shut the cheering and shout outs down immediately. It wasn't about him–those shouting "we love you" well really do you think that was the time or place?

  17. 17

lol "Everyone comes together". You have over 300 million in your country.

  18. 18

Obama is so beyond superior to Sarah Palin, that it's like comparing caviar to cow shit.

  19. 19

I was just waiting for Modern Family to start. So were a lot of people.

  20. 20

NO THEY DON"T…you Jack Wagon….Christ he was on every friggen channel including the cable ones, so your choices other than watching the mouth that roared was Pawn Stars repeats (much better than him anyway) a movie if you subscribe or some bullshit reality show on MTV….he was just gearing up for future campiagn speeches and stumps…and if you watched all you saw mostly was his holier than thou look, chin sticking up, mouth in perpetual smirk…..and as many have said here the T-Shirts, cheering and venue in total was not right for a memorial service…..then again remember the Wellstone memorial

  21. 21

    Re: sanitywins – Agreed.
    -
Anyone watching objectively and paying attention to those who matter the most- Mark West, the survivors and the heroes, and the residents of Tuscon in the audience both Democrat and Republican, could plainly see how inspiring and uplifting the speech was to them-as it was to me.
    -
Even Glenn Beck (really?) kind of praised Obama for the Tuscon speech. REALLY. As did many other prominant Republicans such as AZ Governor Jan Brewer (of course), NJ Governor Chris Christie, GOP strategist Pat Buchanan, W's speech writer David Frum and many more. The narrow minded haters posting negative remarks about this have no class, no imagination and no objectivity.
Let them-all they are doing is displaying their selfishness and painfully low IQs.

  22. 22

How is turning on your TV "coming to together" Americans don't come together if it means actually physically doing something offline.

  23. 23

Re: LCFB – I think YOU miss the point cheering and chanting is INAPPROPRIATE AT A FUNNERAL!!!!!! doesn't matter what the cheer or chant is. IT'S TACKY and shows disrespect for the families. I'm sure you wouldn't want cheering at you mother's/ Daughter funneral

  24. 24

No, I think most people had their DVRs set to tape something and that was on instead.

  25. 25

We all know that Bush brought the country together. lol. I wonder if Bush or Palin or McClain would have given a speech like that. Doubt it. Haters going to hate. Obama keep doing your thing!!!

Funny thing is that Bush 1, Regan, and Clinton speech writer praise Obama for his speech, delivery, and tone but some of the dumba$$es on this board have issue with it. lol

    26

Every one comes together? The liberal media and talking heads have demonstrated their unfounded, completely baseless viciousness to all of America. They are rabid haters, with more calls for murder, torture and limitless evil upon those who disagree with them. They immediately blamed Sarah Palin for what the insane guy did, even though the Dems have been using crosshairs since the 1960s! They have repeatedly put crosshairs on Palin herself! The hatred on the left is getting out of hand. Don't think Obama isn't taking advantage of the crisis in spite of his speech. I do applaud him for that speech, it was one of the good ones.

Re: sanitywins – Leave to the lewd liberals to continue to call patriotic Americans teabaggers. You robot loonies would shit a brick if a conservative would have the nerve to use a sexually insulting term. i never knew what it meant until the nasty liberals used it repeatedly. Insults are all the morally dead libs have. common sense and truth are foreign to them.

  28. uyeah says – reply to this

    28

Re: La Vaquera – Talk is cheap you typically nasty lib. What do you know of either's background? You ignorant libs can never use facts, just insults.

  29. uyeah says – reply to this

    29

Re: La Vaquera – Why are the libs so obsessed with Sarah Palin? It's getting old. Cheap shots may make you mouth breathers happy but the world sees you as empty trolls.

  30. 30

Perez you are an A1 asshole. Yes they tuned in to hear Rothschild's choice LIE to them again and hop e for HOPE. While he lets wall street banks loot the united states. This will be the year that California (first) will cut all programs and people will really feel the contraction to which there is no recovery. Perez why don't you look up the true economic s of the situation (derivatives) and stop spinning this pencil neck phony president handpicked by Brzezinski and the ROTHSCHILDS!

  31. 31

Uyeah….amen….well explained points and thought out comments something the likes of La Vacuum and trakstar5 could not in their wildest dreams…as for trakstar they are written prose by skilled people on staff and reviewed prior to giving…this guy could not even think of saying something like that without major help…during the campaign did he not say "Words, nothing but words….just words, just speeches"

  32. 32

He is BUSH 43 repackaged. Wait until you see the NEXT president. Most likely a hege fund manager (Romney) to scoop up the majority of under water property that is either REO, foreclosure, repo, etc and that president will NATIONALIZE all the distressed property (at least 50-60% of it). OR, you will get a military general as president before after they find a way to declare marshall law in the US. Here's to your future, and I am POSITIVE that LA and NY residents will flee the scene (the country) before it gets bad.

  33. 33

    Bravo President Obama!
Watcing you was a very healing experience.
You stepped up & became Father of a nation.
    Thank you.

  34. 34

who are any of you right wingers to say what was or wasn't appropriate at the memorial in tucson. it was attended by the friends and family members of the victims, the people who were affected by this tragedy who actually live in tucson. if they wanted to cheer and applaud for the people who were shot or the positive and hopeful messages President Obama spoke of then that was their prerogative. nice to see you disgusting conservative freaks sticking to your guns and continuing with the hateful comments. you must all be so proud of yourselves. by the way did any of you notice your new cry baby, i mean speaker of the house at the memorial? oh thats right, he couldn't make it. he had a cocktail party to attend. nice.

  35. 35

House Speaker John Boehner is taking heat from some after skipping out on Wednesday's memorial service for the shooting victims in Arizona and instead hosting a cocktail party for the Republican National Committee.

The Ohio Republican turned down President Obama's invitation to travel on Air Force One to Tucson, Politico reported.

"It is disrespectful for Speaker Boehner to skip joining the President's and bipartisan congressional delegation to the Tucson Memorial so he could host a Washington D.C. cocktail party for RNC members," a Democratic leadership aide told the political website.

Boehner held a 7 p.m. cocktail reception for 168 RNC members who are in Washington for an annual meeting. The event, which took place at a Maryland resort, was sponsored by the Ohio Republican's political action committee

The cocktail party coincided with the 8 p.m. EST memorial ceremony at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where a lone gunman killed six people and injured more than a dozen, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Saturday.

The memorial was attended by a number of figureheads, including President Obama, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Republican Gov. Jan Brewer.

  36. 36

For all the liberals calling conservatives names, did you not listen to his message? I don't get it you praise the guy but you don't listen to him. Funny.

  37. 37

THIS YEAR HAS ONLY JUST BEGAN! Seriously you would think these victims will be the only ones of the year. Hell no. Chill the fuck out losers and be prepared it'll get worst from here.

  38. 38

Re: AttFinch – Are you seriously calling Obama a left winger? Have you paid attention to ANY of the actions taken by his admin or the banks that he works for? Time to get past the paradigm and see that both aisles work for the same people and they are not people who are American.

  39. 39

Re: uyeah – #30: You ask a good question, namely, Why are people so "obsessed with" and vehemently against Sarah Palin? I think it's because when someone so uneducated, inarticulate, insensitive, and given to shallow thinking attracts so many, it is indicative of a country whose standards are in rapid descent. It's not so much about Sarah Palin as it is about the hordes of gun-toting, ill-bred, clods who harbor her in their mosh pit. She's the Jimmy Baker of politics.

  40. 40

Re: uyeah – …and everyone on this blog sees you as an angry, hateful, misinformed prick. What, nobody will fuck you? ??
    -
If Palin showed leadership and spoke about the victims and their families in an uplifting way instead of delivering a narcissistic, defensive statement, which added an anti Semitic slur and again referred to GUNS I would have acknowledged it and her in a positive way-same as Beck did with Obama's address. Get it now?

Re: supersongbird – *post 22-MY BAD-wtf is Mark West lol-
    should say Mark KELLY.

  41. 41

I certainly wouldn't have missed President Obama's speech for all the money in the world. He did not disappoint me, I admire him more and more with each passing day.
P.S. Sarah Palin IS INDEED responsible for the shooting in Tucson, her hate speeches have gotten the response she was seeking. Every wacko in the US will listen and admire that kind of vitriol. Go straight to hell ugly Palin.

  42. 42

It's not as if people had a choice…it was shown in almost all the major network and cable stations. The true measure would be if it was shown only by one major network…would he have that many viewers? How many memorial services have you attended with that much applause and screaming? And they were selling Obama t-shirts outside the stadium. The service was respectful and somber up until he spoke and it turned into a campaign rally. One thing he could have done was after the first applause and cheering, he could have asked the people to tone it down and reminded them that it was a memorial service but he didn't and seemed to enjoy the moment. FYI…I'm a Democrat and I thought he could have handled the situation better.

  43. 43

Poeple tuned in for the funeral - not him. Looking forward to 2012 when we can get a REAL President into office!

  44. 44

Obama did nothing to honor the victims of the Ft Hood massacre. Because that might have offended Muslims.

  45. 45

Re: lalalala – I'm so sick of people being so PC they are afraid to offend Muslims. I was shopping earlier today at Target, and two little muslim girls with towel's on their heads came by and all I wanted to do was grab those rags off their heads, fix their hair, but I knew when they got home, their Dad would probably rape and then stone them to death. People need to wake up to what this "religion" really is. It's NOT peaceful. Muslim's main goal is to implement SHARIA LAW all over the world.

  46. 46

Yea, nothing more inspirational than seeing a funeral/memorial service shifted away from the families and refocused into a partisan political rally. Havent seen one of those since Sen. Paul Wellstone's funeral.

  47. 47

Re: LazaroSi3333 – For all the money in the world you wouldn't have missed dumb ass obama's speech? YOU ARE A FOOL. Also, I don't support Sarah Palin, but to blame any person for that idiots killing spree shows just how fucked up your little brain is. It's people like you that should super-glue a razor-blade to the tip of your dildo before you start masturbating.

  48. 48

I turned the channel immediately when they hijacked the program I was watching. What an opportunist BO is. And yes, why wasn't there a televised memorial for the Ft. Hood shootings, or as someone else said, the children that killed everyday, especially Christian children like Adam, who walked around that church in Iraq begging the mooslums killers to stop until they turned their guns on him and silenced this 3-year-old boy. Where is BO in speaking out against all the killing of Christians in pisslam these days? Every day it seems there's another masacre, but he remains silent. The Pope finally speaks up and he gets more death sentences put on his head!

Yes, I couldn't turn the channel fast enough.

Love the level-headedness displayed by some of the comments here!

  49. 49

    Re: lalalala
as per your comment #45 why do you feel the need to perpetrate lies. if you don't like Obama thats fine. but to make things up just shows your ignorance.
    *
FORT HOOD, Texas — One by one, President Barack Obama spoke the names and told the stories Tuesday of the 13 people slain in the Fort Hood shooting rampage, honoring their memories even as he denounced the "twisted logic" that led to their deaths.
As for the victims and the soldiers who rushed to help them, Obama said, "We need not look to the past for greatness, because it is before our very eyes." He spoke at a memorial service before a crowd estimated at 15,000 on this enormous Army post.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama began an afternoon of consolation by meeting privately with family members of those killed last week and with those wounded in the attack and their families.
The president spoke to loved ones left behind, saying: "Here is what you must also know: Your loved ones endure through the life of our nation."
Later, the president and first lady went to a military hospital to meet with those still recovering from wounds incurred during the attack.

  50. 50

    Re: womenareprey
well i guess someone who goes by the name "womenareprey" shouldn't be expected to tell the truth but just in case anyone was stupid to believe any part of comment #49
*This afternoon, the memorial service was held in Fort Hood, Texas to remember those who were killed in the shootings last week.
Here’s how it looked across the cable nets as everyone waited for the official start:
MSNBC simulcasts the NBC broadcast, which began at 2pmET and is anchored by Brian Williams. Fox Business Network is also carrying the memorial.
CBS’ Katie Couric and ABC’s Charlie Gibson anchor special reports for their respective networks at 2:53pmET to carry President Obama’s remarks. Some FOX stations also carry the remarks. HLN not carrying the service live, but providing updates.
Obama names each of the victims and gives a little background.
CBS returns to programming at 3:10pmET and ABC does the same shortly thereafter. NBC stays with the service through the roll call, 21 gun salute, and final farewells.

Re: FlossieBangcock – Congratulations on your elegant and refined language. So impressive if somewhat full of hate. Get well soon or go back to jail.

  52. 52

Re: LCFB – i know right. I am a bit embarrassed for these people who want to complain. I don't know how people can find fault in almost everything. When you have a crowd of people they have a tendency to rally up for good or bad..mostly good and this was a time to just mourn and you can't tell people how to mourn!! morons.
