Pope John Paul II Gets Closer To Sainthood

pope john paul II gets closer to sainthood

Looks like the current Pope's going to have a lot to live up to!

Today, the Vatican announced that Pope John Paul II will be beatified on May 1st.

The late Pope will be referred to as "the Blessed John Paul II" following the beatification ceremony, and he'll be much closer to becoming a saint.

For one to be "beatified," a post-death miracle must be proven "through the scrutiny of medical and theological experts."

Looks like John Paul should be all set to be beatified, as he's been credited for healing Sister Marie-Simon-Pierre who prayed to him, following his death. According to "experts," her prayers to the late Pope cured her of Parkinson's disease, and it was deemed "a miracle."

For John Paul II to actually reach saint status, he'll need a second miracle to be confirmed.

Guess we'll see what happens. We'll be sure to keep an ear out for any miracle reports.

Do U think John Paul II deserves recognition as a saint? Do U think it will happen?

Biggest bunch of BS I have ever heard. A bunch of child-molesting old farts claiming each other to be Saints. How about the Catholic Church lets a NON-biased entity make those decisions. I love how they don't have to PUBLICLY show proof of what THEY say was a miricle. Load of rubbish anyway, "god" does not play favorites - with ANYONE! Whether they like that or not. I wish only to live long enough to see them collapse under the weight of thier own crap!

  2. 2

YES, HE DOES!. FOR ME, HE WAS A SAINT A LONG TIME AGO…

  3. 3

HAH!, sainthood. What a fucking joke. The pope was in some village somewhere and waved his hand and a lady was cured. suuuure, that happened. I love this sky fairy shit, it cracks me up. If only people could form their own thoughts, there would be no religion.

  4. 4

yes he does, yes it will, but I think it is too soon. also, i think it was a mistake to dissolve the Devil's Advocate office. that was an important part of the process and they should bring it back if only to quiet the noise coming from those like 7kimba8 and hoochpit.

@Tricia00 I agree with you. For me he's already a saint

Religion is a sham! Anyone who thinks that they know what will happen when we die is full of shit! No one has the answer! "If you want to get your soul to heaven. trust in me now don't you judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you just do everything I tell you to do" - Maynard James Keenan

  7. 7

    SILLY.

  8. 8

Not that God is silly but rather these child-molesting, thieving clowns who claim to be on God's level.

  9. 9

    omarie- you are so deluded.

  10. 10

i thought only god can called someone a saint like mary no human being can be a saint no woman or man are without sins how can the pope call himself a saint he not pure no human being is pure .

  11. 11

    Re: surfergal5 – lol.

  14. 14

Re: surfergal5 – Try "beatification" from the word beatitude.

  15. 15

Re: surfergal5 – No, you're wrong. It's called beatified. Beautified is another word entirely having nothing to do with sainthood.

  16. 16

I personaly son't think we need to add more saints… Although he was a VERY good man.

  17. 17

All Christians are saints. At least according to MY bible…

  18. 18

This is another example how polytheism is hidden behind monotheism. God is one, but saints are multiple gods/idols. If everyone is equal in face of god why should my prayers be more powerful when I turn to some church-approved "saint" than to my dead grandpa?
It's all about power. It's easier to manipulate stupid people, that's why church never supported high quality education.
People need religion because they are afraid of death and what comes after, many of them believe that religion is necessary to accomplish something. I see religion as feather in Dumbo - he believed it was the feather that makes him fly - believe in Yourselves people !
I sincerly hope to live long enough to see religions fall down.

  19. 19

SHE IS JUST AN OLD LADY IN AN UGLY DRESS……

Ps: I "adore" all those "devoted" catholics throwing "f#%ks" at everyone who disagrees with their opinion - it' so "Love thy neighbour as thyself" :/

Sorry for double posting. My internet connection is messed up tonight :]
So many people in Poland say they believe in god but not in church. Interesting, isn't it?

  22. 22

Exactly how many died following his no condom policy? Thousands? Dozens of thousands? I mean the guy must have been well meaning but what a criminal record! O.J. Simpsons should be beatified too me thinks :-/

    23

you people are sick to think that this man shouldn't become a saint… listen to yourselves.

  24. 24

    this made me throw up.

I have lovely imaginings about what humans could be like without religion.

    25

Apparently the current pope is unhappy because too many people name their children after Hollywood celebrities instead of after saints. I propose he fast-track everyone in Hollywood into sainthood!

  26. 26

he does. even if i am atheist i can admit that he was really SOMEONE. Benedict XVI isnt even close to that, what was achieved by John Paul II.
Even if i didnt have same opinions with Wojtyla on many cases i believe he did a lot for tolerance between religions and countries. He was a good man.

  27. 27

    This is ridiculous!
Before anybody jumps all over me I do believe in God - but - just because someone was fortunate enough to be cured while praying to Pope John Paul II it doesn't mean he performed a miracle.

  28. 28

you fools! It's about a miracle he performed AFTER his death. He is saintly. Had any of you known anything of his entire life you'd know that. This man changed what it meant to be a Pope. From staying in a stuffy Italian CASTLE to traveling across the world to see people of all walks of life. Surviving an assassination attempt and visiting the man who tried to kill him several times, actually getting to know him. Not to mention the work he and Mother Teresa and also being an instrumental part in the fall of COMMUNISM!!!! Read your history you lame ducks. He also visited the wailing wall and improved relations between Catholics and Jews, something important to him, as he had protected Polish Jews during WWII. All of you jump to the image of a hunched over, near-death John Paul who could barely get up from his chair, but even then, he was praying for all US!

  29. 29

Something like this should take years and years to do! Though I do believe that it is to happen…I think that we are jumping the gun here. It's too soon!

  30. 30

Um, I thought that only God could perform miracles, not just any random dead guy. These people need to get over themselves. I find Catholicism very funny. Pray to Mary for your sins, repeat the sins, pray again, etc. Sure, God lets you do the same shit over and over again, as long as you light a candle and say you're sorry after every time. Sorry, don't buy it.

  31. 31

Oops, wrong pope….whatever, they are all idiots who believe in magical fairies that live in the sky.

  32. 32

Maybe he can be the patron saint, along with Bishop Neinstedt, of homosexuality.

  33. 33

TO those of you call the Catholic church nothing but child-molestors I would like to let you in a secret. The only reason why the Catholics are so targeted in the whole child molestation thing is because they used to have money. Bankrupt churchs of other faiths have done the exact same thing to children but we don't hear about it because their churches were never as rich as the Catholics. Also, miracles happen everyday whether you believe in them or not. I pity those who on this page are too pessimistic to witness the everyday miracle of life. John Paul II had a rough life and he did devote it God, making sacrifices that some of us can only imagine. Pretty soon people will say Mother Teresa shouldn't be a saint when in all actuality she would be a perfect saint. Oh, and one more thing, saints are not idols, they are the people who we look up to to give us strength when we need it. Sometimes believing in God is tough especially in today's word but by reading the stories of a saints faith, it inspires us to reconnect with God.

Team Pope John Paul II. If they deign themselves empowered to hand out saint hoods, this man certainly deserves one.

  35. 35

    Re: kaylinth

and where and how did they get their money? If I remember, the poor had to pay the church a massive proportion of their income for a chance to go to "heaven"

  36. 36

a miracle isn't something magical! he changed the catholic church in some many ways, saint, sainthood, beatified? he is more than those human words!
JOHN PAUL II WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBER FOREVER AND EVER!

    Re: martyna
People have right not to believe in miracles or saints.
I suggest You FIRST start to show that you are christian by the way you live and act, behave in a way that proves that you believe in God and what Jesus taught because now you are a "fine" example of catholic only by name - aggressive person which offends everyone who disagrees with your opinion by screaming and using crude language.
Other suggestion - use proper English - buy a dictionary and learn correct grammar because the way you express yourself is as poor as your manners.

  40. 40

Re: martyna – ok so you call our opinions 'shitty' but want is to respect yours? brilliant logic

  41. 41

First of all, saying bad things about someone who passed away is not appropriate. If you had any dignity or manners you would know that. Secondly, it's easy to judge people because you heard some stories on television or radio. If you really want to judge someone start with yourself! Pope John Paul II brought peace and love everywhere he was. He also brought hope to people, showed what's important in life. Of course you don't know that because you'd never heard his words or the history of his life. So please, next time you want to comment on something THINK first rather than DO!

  42. 42

To Martyna… ahhh are you on glue? Did you miss the part of the post where the public was asked "Do U think John Paul II deserves recognition as a saint? Do U think it will happen?" That automatically gives people the right to provide their opinions on the subject!! Im so tired of people like you who can give their opinion on whatever subject that they please but cannot take a second to hear the opinions of anyone else. Just like a true Catholic.

  43. 43

Hate this practice of making people saint over and over . It's too much !

  44. 44

    GREAT!!!!!

  45. 45

JPII oversaw the Vatican when the child rape cases were at their worst. He did NOTHING. Cardinal Ratzinger a.k.a. Pope Benny was in charge of the office called the CDF and he did nothing except stall the authorities. Now they want the world to forget about 3 Billion in damages and 'gag' orders so we'll be seeing a lot of the 'saint'. This is a criminal enterprise that knows how to use spectacle to change the focus. Currently the Vatican PR dep't is advertising for catholics to return to the church. Oh yeah, they're asking the folks in the pews to pay for the air time. Gets sicker by the minute.

Re: audrey_heRe: NizatalieRe: kaylinth – Good, solid comments, nice to hear from educated people!
John Paul II is already a saint in my book. This guy did amazing things in his life! All the haters GROW UP!!

  47. 47

Uhhh…yeah… I'm sorry (but not really) God said to not worship any other/idol but Him. Therefore…why the F would you pray to a human being? Really? People are so brain washed and stooooopid…

  48. 48

And by the by… I do not wish any ill will on ANYONE regardless of what my opinion is on that particular person, he died, and that's sad. But truth be told, GOD is the only one with the POWER. thankyouverymuch

  49. 49

Re: Big Ethel – Hey have you tried praying to God? Or even the Holy Spirit…they're waaaaay up there on the ranking…. way past john paul II…

  50. 50

He went to see the guy who tried to kill him in jail and not only forgave him but spent a long time speaking to him, he was a very good man, yes the Catholic Church has a lot of problems but not all priests are bad people, there's some really good men and women in that organisation who do so much and really care about people, I'd like to know what the 'haters' do on this blog for other people .. sweet FA I would think …

  51. 51

I can't believe there are people who are so ignorant, yes there are child molesters in the catholic religion but that doesn't make all priests child molesters just like there are murderers in our society and that doesn't mean we are all murderers, I mean think about it, why do you have to be so hateful all the time?this pope respected every single religion and even got together with different religious leaders, all he wanted was peace for every1, he wasn't trying to change religions, he was trying to change the world with peace and love, why are there people criticizing him then? This is why the world is the way it is, if we were to act peaceful instead of hateful, we would make a difference, but if we aren't doing it then at least leave the people at are do it

Re: GlitzThis – I never said JPII was above God, or did
I?? The fact remains the is a Holy man, a true example of what MAN can do and be.
