YES! It is seriously about effing time!

The Austrian version of the hit reality competition Dancing With The Stars will be the next edition to feature same-sex dance partners, as gay TV celebrity Alfons Haider - which many believe to have inspired Sacha Baron Cohen's Brüno character - will be dancing with castmember Balazs Ekker!

He revealed:

"I am going to dance with a heterosexual. This is not about being gay. I do not want my appearance on the show to be reduced to homosexuality. This is about the show, about entertainment. I am not the gay Joan of Arc."

Absolutely amazing! And the exact attitude that we like to hear!

Ekker also revealed that neither men will be comprising their masculinity to conform to the male/female roles as partners, and explains:

"There is no 100 percent answer to this because no one has done this before. But there is no way I am going to don a skirt and stockings to give the impression we're normal."

You guys are making history here! It's about time that this happened in US - and STAT!

We're so thrilled for you both, and cannot wait to see you how do in the competition!

Congratulations!

do you know if Lindsay will turn up there? I mean in "Dancing with the stars"?

I'm really sorry.. But I find it really wired if two men or two women are dancing a tango or a salsa.. It looks wrong..
Nothing against gays or anything.. But it's not everything that should be made a gay version of..
Even Ellen thinks it shouldn't be done.. Cause it's pointless and will look wired and everything will change.. I mean in a samba or salsa they should really shake those hips. And it's different how the guy does it and how the girl does it. and now it will look totally wrong and not how the dance is actually created or is..

I'm sorry but some things HAVE to remain male/female and ballroom dancing is one of them. There are somethings that gays can't do, period!!!! I hope they never do that here.

  4. 4

So he is just doing it because of the 'entertainment'? Well, I guess some egomaniac Austrian TV presenter in his midlife-crisis wants to get self PR - and thats what he got. Even in the States.

perhaps the world would have more tolerance for homosexuals if the cause wasn't constantly thrust in our faces every single day. they're doing this for controversy and viewing figures, not for awareness.
if homosexuality is not the issue here, then it shouldn't matter if the gay contestant danced with a female partner. by dancing with a male, he's drawing attention to it and making a point of it.
ballroom dancing works because the male and female bodies complement one another. its nothing to do with sexuality. its to do with form and fluidity. this idea is just plain stupid and is only being used to get better ratings.

THAT'S JUST FUCKED UP. DANCING IS AN ART FORM NOT A STATEMENT ON WHO IS FUCKING WHO. IF THEY'RE GOING TO DO IT I HOPE THEY GO FULL OUT LIKE BLADES OF GLORY AND DO THE CROTCH SHOT SO THEY'LL REALLY FUCK THE ART FORM UP.

not everything needs a gay version, for goodness sake. men can't pick up men and put them over their head quite like they can a woman…hey, I have a great idea!!! Let's do a gay version of childbirth! that would be epic! equal rights for all!!!!!!!!

  8. 8

i am not homophopic but that is a no. if they start shaking there as like a girl it's going to look stupid and gross. men can't dance like women face it.

Re: chiro – If one dancer is gay, one dancer is straight then there is nothing sexual about this partnership. It's called ballroom dancing, not ballroom f*cking. Kindly keep your opinions about dance in your small mind.

Re: The princess of pop – YES you are homophobic and your words prove it.

  11. 11

I love a gay man but NO NO NO that is just corny.

  12. 12

Guess it had to come sooner or later. Don't think they will last longer than two episodes. It will be too radical for most people.

  13. 13

What a shocker, Europe more advanced than the US =O

  14. 14

    Sounds revolting.

  15. 15

That is absolutely silly! Ballroom dancing regardless of straight or gay has always been the partnering of a man and a woman. I feel that this is not about equal rights or breaking ground, it is just about trying to change tradition. If they put two men or two women together on the U.S. version I would not watch it anymore!!!!

  16. 16

Except he's NOT the first to do it. The really hot blond Israeli lesbian already did this a few months ago.

  17. 17

THE SHOW HAS BECOME A CIRCUS. THIS IS RIDUCULOUS.IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN HERE. BY THE WAY,IM GAY AND WOULD NOT WATCH .MAYBE IT BELONGS ON THE ELLEN SHOW,SHE WOULD DO SOMETHING SILLY LIKE THAT.

  18. 18

So sick of all your homo propaganda. I hope you get AIDS.

  19. 19

Don't know if America is ready to watch a cocl to cock bump and grind during the Rumba or Lambada. (LOL)

  20. 20

Stupid. I am gay and a fan of ballroom dancing, but this is something that requires a man AND a woman.

In Québec (Canada) they did that YEARS ago in our own version we had of Dancing with the stars. It was with a famous stand up comic duet. They did a tango. They said that when the young men had no ladies toget trained to dance tango, men dance together.

One of my best friend does ballroom dancing and during competition, sometimes, a lady does the man's part if they are short on men.

I don't see what the big deal is. Come on, we're in 2011!

I'm gay and a ballroom dancer. I would have no problem with this for a show piece or something, like the "Mango" that was performed on the U.S. version a few years ago between Steve something and Jonathon. That was fun. It was different. It happened once. For an actual competition, I don't agree with it. Ballroom is for a man and a woman. As much as I love dancing with my boyfriend, I wouldn't ever want to perform with him, because that's not how ballroom works. I am a man, and I dance with a woman. I'm all for being progressive, but this is taking it too far.

Re: b a t k i s s – how? Seems to me you're the one with the problem if you really think that two men dancing together, regardless of their sexual preference, on national television is ok. Ballroom dancing has never ever been done by two people of the same gender. Ballroom dancing is an art form that works because it is a play of emotions and feeling between a man and a woman. The Pasa doble is a purely sexual dance with lips 2 inches away from each other, and you think two men dancing this, just because one is straight won't detract from the symoblism of the dance. Get real!!

Re: Allison St. Pierre – Prove the following: "Ballroom dancing has *never*ever* been done by two people of the same gender." You might want to discuss your answer with Re: La Souris – and Re: Mr. Gable

  27. 27

Don't see how this is a step for gay rights. A big step for TV ratings maybe.

  28. 28

It is ballroom dancing for crying out loud. It is a guy and a girl that is it period end of sentence. The pure mechanics and beauty of it all is having that difference. I don’t have a problem with people who are gay but serious this is going way too far. Blades of Glory was a funny movie but that it FUNNY not meant to happen in real life. Let some things stay the way they are unless this guy thinks girls have cooties I don’t see why he can’t just dance with a female and stick to the art form that is ballroom.
