The Reason Showtime Turned Down The Kennedys

It had nothing to do with the quality of the project!

Although a few networks have turned down The Kennedys miniseries with an all-star cast, Showtime Networks president of entertainment David Nevins claims that it had nothing to do with how good the movie was.

He said:

“It wasn’t Showtime. I looked seriously at it, and thought it was well acted, well made and very watchable. What it really came down to was that it didn’t feel Showtime. It didn’t feel like premium cable. I have great respect and love for [Kennedys creator] Joel Surnow. He’s got a great cast. It didn’t fundamentally feel us. My vow coming in was to focus on renewable resources, and series are renewable resources.

I was hired to be the steward of this brand and bring the brand to the next phase of its existence. I felt it was not Showtime.”

Wow. We heard it the first time! Guess it wasn't A LOT of networks!

It either sucks, or pissed of the DEM and they pressed to get it off the air. Those are the two answers, this answers is pure bullshit

  2. 2

My guess is that it is Lifetime Movie quality, which means David Nevins was being verrrrry polite

  3. 3

Translation: There wasn't a lot of gratuitous nudity and violence and that is what our viewers are looking for.

  4. 4

Translation- A B flick made for television. Yawn.

  5. 5

I'm thinking it's a combination of the first 3 comments. There wasn't any willing or attractive castmembers to strip down to give a requisite nude scene. If you're not going to get a good nude scene AND piss off the "American Royal Family", why air it? It sounds like Lifetime quality but I am sure they will pass on it too. Maybe Oprah should throw it on OWN? Yeah, right. Hallmark or Oxygen, here it comes.

From WHAT I heard, it is a piece 'o crap. Katie Holmes did not exactly channel her inner Jackie…terrible performance. Even the Scientologists can't save this dreadful piece of work. Ya know it is bad when the History Channel turns ya down !

  7. 7

Think Lindsay Lohan made-for-t.v. movie…that should say it all !

  8. 8

They shoulda left the 'scat' scene in…..HBO woulda taken it on !

    In other words…it BLEW!

First and foremost it has Katie Holmes in it - that's a guarantee FAIL, IMO! NEXT!

This is causing a lot of buzz and controversy that some network will eventually air the miniseries… and if there are new scandals about the Kennedys, I won't be surprised if Fox or a Fox affiliated network picks it up.

Re: gerry in sf – It's airing outside of the U.S. everywhere else no problemo. Interesting, what? Smells like censorship.

  13. 13

Katie Holmes has no business playing Jackie O.

  14. 14

i wonder if they feel the boot in the azz when people are sick of the censoring and greed

If they wanted to Air this production, all they would do is put up a disclaimer before the show: "The Opinions Expressed in this Production do not Necessarily… Blah, blah." Therefore, the argument that this production is in some way being held from the public because it is 'historically inaccurate' is a weak argument. The disclaimer also shoots down any theory that the Kennedys paid people off not to air this (People love their conspiracy theories.) The Kennedys would probably do what any famous person does when someone writes a book or a movie about them, deny, deny, deny. Easy enough. Clearly, it wasn't a very good production. It happens. ALL THE TIME.

nobody cares about this damned show. get over it perez, we have.

  17. 17

I don't why they picked Katie Holmes to play as Jackie. It was a mistake from the start. Katie doesn't have the charisma, she is not a good actress anyway. She is not the same class as Nicole Kidman, sorry!!!!

    Oops!!!! I meant I don't know why…….etc.
