So, What Was Up With Robert DeNiro's Awkward Speech At The Globes??? He Speaks!

Eh, give the guy a break! They can't all be good, you know.

Last night, Robert De Niro received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long line of amazing work, Unfortunately, his acceptance speech was just as memorable as his classic flicks, but not in a good way.

Rob tried his hand a little, shall we say, schtick while accepting his award, but ended up making some rather controversial remarks that didn't go over so well. (We personally didn't appreciate the jab at the waiters and Javier Bardem.)

When he headed back to the press room, he was immediately asked why he tried to be "funny." He replied:

“I thought this would be more fun for this kind of evening.”

Thought wrong, bb.

Still, nothing he said compares to what Ricky Gervais said. Bet he's in WAY more trouble than Rob right now.

I wish you would fucking proof read.

  2. 2

Perez: you are way too sensitive

  3. 3

I'm sure people don't appreciate your "jabs" at them Perez. Who cares, Robert is amazing and deserved this award.

  4. 4

That was very awkward and he has a terrible time reading a teleprompter. Also why in the hell did Matt Damon present him the award?? NO Scorcese, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel???

  5. 5

He was just making a comment on the fact our country is wanting to crack down in immigration, etc. It just came out wrong.

i thought Ricky was HILARIOUS!!! how is him making cracks at stars different than when you do it? he had the balls to say it right to their faces! thats the difference. If the stars cant take a little jab, then too fucking bad. go home and cry in your millions of dollars in your enormous houses. nobody cares!

Waaaaaaaaaaah! He poked fun at the waiters.
Waaaaaaaaaaah! He poked fun at Bardem.

Awkward at times….Mr DeNiro was funny. No harm….no foul.
Christ! Everyone is so worried about being PC it's killing free speech.
Lighten up Perez. Remember YOU'RE AN ONLINE GOSSIP COLUMNIST and nothing more or nothing less.

De Niro is a living legend.

Love DeNiro… I thought his jokes went really good with Gervais' humor. I love how everyone gets offended. His jokes about "deportation" was mocking the US government… you know how it is all about illegal immigration and the BS, he was poking fun at it (at least that is how I took it). I swear, people need thicker skin.

  11. 11

people need to chill the f*ck out! take the sticks out of your asses & learn to start laughing again, a society that forgets to laugh it off is doomed!!!

  12. 12

I am totally missing why DeNiro was so controversial. He seemed like he was having a good time along with several other people in the room. I think he was attempting to knock the government for their excessive intrusion into our everyday lives such as indiscreet TSA body searches, threatening deportations if you have dark skin and your paperwork is not in order etc…I think people are way too sensitive and reading too much into his comments. He's a nice guy, great actor and philanthropist leave him alone.

  13. 13

He's Robert fucking DeNiro. He gets to say what wants, when he wants!

  14. 14

Hmmm…I think that racist jokes aimed at the citizenship of waiters is more offensive than making fun of super rich celebs. I mean, the celebs get it all the time, but why would someone pick on the help? It's like the bully at school that beats up the janitor as opposed to the little guy that stands up to the mean, popular crowd.

  15. 15

He's a cranky old Jew. Let him be.

  16. 16

I heard it wondered who wrote it. It was insulting and ignorant. For such a shy guy he put on an act of a comedian and he BOMBED. Hopefully the waiter served him a little something that he didn't know about.

  17. 17

Perez since when did you get boring and self rightous?

  18. 18

He's a racist. According to him, you should be a waiter, Mario.

  19. 19

There is nothing you can say about De Niro.. Sorry he is the best!

  20. 20

He's a great actor for sure! :D but as I latin, I found the joke tasteless. Not for me, but for the latins that are in REAL NEED! No one will ever want to be a waiter, they just have to be…

Re: maxie pad – LMAO! Deniro's Italian, silly!

  22. 22

Robert Dinero can do no wrong in my eyes!!

  23. 23

his acting WAS good…to hell with this Italian trash..he should have said along with his Italian family who are immigrants too…and mutts!!!!!

  24. 24

It obviously had to do with his role in Machete…Duhhh

  25. 25

Oh that was great off the cuff Deniro. My guess is that Deniro privately is very funny, non PC and funny as hell off camera. He was attacking homeland security (in an odd way). The best part of that speech (on vicodin clearly), was the reaction of the glib glee no talent libs in the audience that could not hold a CANDLE to the filmography of Deniro, but….COULD in fact hold a mold of Deniro's dick and well…lick it all day. Fuck you Hollywood.

  26. 26

Re: maxie pad – HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Funniest thing I heard all week!

  27. 27

Re: Mad Dog – But Mario should be a waiter.

  28. 28

As a Mexican American, nee Tejano, I LMFAO at the waiter/ Javier joke. Probably because as a college student I was a waiter in a well known Mexican restaurant in Texas where most of the staff WAS Latino. I'm smart enough to tell the difference between a joke and a slur. Considering he is an Italian American, I'm sure he can too. Not everything is racist.

  29. 29

get a sense of humour, i thought de niro was very funny!
