Controversy! J. Lo's New Song Sounds An Awful Lot Like….

| Filed under: Music MinuteJennifer Lopez

We're going to let U decide!

Here we have for you a comparison of two songs: Jennifer Lopez's latest jam, On The Floor and Kat Deluna's Party O'Clock.

There are those who suggest that JLo copied this song's melody and lyrics for her new single. As they both worked with the same producer, RedOne, on each of their tracks, the accusation may not be that far off.

But give it a listen (above) and tell us if you can hear the similarities.

Is JLo a musical thief or what?

Why are you pointing the finger at J.LO? If anything, you should comment about Red One's ability to diversify his sound. Yes, there are some obvious similarities, which is common when songs share the same producer. Don't forget that Kat DeLuna's song is only being released in Europe, whereas J.LO's song is being released worldwide.

  2. 2

First of all JLO doesn't write music or for that matter come up with the melody. She lends her voice or better yet lack there of to the music producers…..they are at fault, in her defense she doesn't steal anything she probably never heard of the melody until she sang for the track.

  3. 3

Let me point out the obvious: when two different singers work with the same producer, the outcome is going to be the SAME. It`s happened countless times with other artists without their own intent. It`s the job of the producer to keep an open ear for things like this. I don`t care for either song but I have to say they could be smashed together as one long party fest lol.

  4. 4

they're so ingrate big pun would at least shift

  5. 5

the musics not the same but the lyrics are sooo similar, uh oh

  7. 7

See, what she's done there is she's taken Kat's song and pissed all over it.

  8. 8

Sounds more like "Lambada" by Kaoma to me

  9. 9

Jay Lo's big ass gets her out of all kinds of trouble, but not this time!

  10. 10

    SHE'S SAMPLING A CUMBIA FROM THE 80'S

  11. 11

Ugh. J-lo is such a no talent has been. I will not watch a single episode of american idol so I can avoid listening to her dumb ass.

  12. 12

well here in America …who ever is the richest and more Famous will Win the case….Go USA…Yep We SUCK

  13. 13

seeing as Jlo probably didnt write the song, can you really say Jlo copied her? no. it would be RedOne.
i see your hate train has moved on to Jlo now.

  14. 14

PLEASE, EVERY ARTISTS AND PRODUCERS COPY FROM EACH OTHERS, AND IT'S NOT JLO FAULT, THE PRODUCER PRODUCED BOTH SONGS..INTERESTING YOU DON'T SAY JACK WHEN GAGA COPY MADONNA FROM HEAD TO TOE, UH MY BAD, GAGA IS THE GREATEST. GET A LIFE PEREZ

  15. 15

No. Two different songs with some similarities in the theme. That's it.

  16. 16

i think that yes it sound the same.

  17. 17

totally! it's too much of a coincidence for her to say "to africa" and all the lalalalas, total ripoff. but i doubt it was JLo, it was prob her song writers. still, it sucks. she needs to give it up, anyways… seeing her on AI with that crazy new facelift pulling her face so gross and tight is just TOO MUCH! she looks like a 50 y/o trying to look 30 and she's, what? 40 at the most? yeah… ew.

  18. 18

You are using weasel words to call her a thief. Pay back for not letting you on the show?

  19. 19

Okay I think both songs suck so who cares if they copied each others crappy songs! Lol

  20. 20

I was'nt even paying attention to the video showing who was singing when, becuase i just figured it would sound differnt. I left the window open while I read my email..i totally did not realize it was two differnt songs. I was like "damn how long is this sample of Jennifer?" I had no idea it was going back and forth until the very end.

    21

Yes, she is a muscial thief ! This is OLD NEWS, J-HO, Irv Gotti and Tommy Matolla teamed up and stole several song from Mariah Carey during the Glitter era. Once a thief always a thief !!!!!

  22. 22

HONESTLY Perez! Leave J.Lo alone . why you hate her so much?
i have respect for you Man, and please don make me hate you with your negativity . This is a new year

  23. GG78 says – reply to this

    23

J-Ho is one untalented, rude kunt !

  24. Fosca says – reply to this

    24

    it's simply LAMBADA!!!!

  25. 25

I see you have your eye on JLO now, good! I guess you have added her to your ever increasing HIT LIST.

You passive aggresive BULLY…Nothing has changed you are still the same jealous fat chick trapped in an ugly man's body. :)

  26. 26

so…by pointing the finger at J.Lo…u mean RedOne? or r u afraid to blame RedOne since he's ur Gaga's producer?

  27. 27

It's a dance track - they ALL sound the same - just like DISCO (Disco died because the drummer passed away…..)

  28. 28

OH MY GOSH PEREZ, I SWEAR ONCE YOU GET AN OBSESSION YOU CAN'T PHENE IT OFF…KAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS? REMEMBER THAT ONE GUY SEE I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER , YOU TRY TO GO OFF ON PUBLICIST RANT, TREVOR SOMETHING..ANYWAY..LET THE PROS HANDLE AND CRITIQUE. STICK WHAT YOU KNOW BEST…BEING A BITCH. AND STOP WITH REPETIVE MASH UP…CELEBRITY NEWS ARE MORE RELEVANT!

  29. 29

the only similarities i hear is that they both suck. the only dis worth listening to from jennifer lopez was On the 6, her first cd. Everything else was bad.

  30. 30

Just like Brit-Brit copied those Florida Rednecks. Pop Divas are dumm.

  31. ju' says – reply to this

    31

    Type "lambada" on youtube…

  32. 32

Sounds like someones been sampling too much from "Lambada" by Kaoma to me

  33. 33

JLo's sounds way more like "Lambada" than anything else!

  34. 34

they both sound like Lambada, like excatly the same… total rip off

  35. 35

Re: Cosmic2k – I agree!! When I first heard JLo's song I thought the same thing but its only the background music.

Now how many people have done this? The rappers keep doing it to nursery rhymes. No biggie!!!!!!!!

  36. 36

Perez I u retarded! a million and one songs could be made to "sound familiar" cop on!

  37. 37

If you listen to the lyrics in Jennifer Lopez's song there's a part where she sings "Straight to Ibiza/Straight To Morrocco/blah blah.. this is "EXACTLY" similar to KAT DELUNA's "Party O'Clock" verses whereas Kat sings "Party in Miami/Party In Ibiza/ blah blah.. and the "oh's" as well..that ALL Kat DeLuna. RedOne is suspect for this, he's a douchebag*

  38. 38

Re: JeremyLN – I did, and thought, the exact same thing as you.

  39. 39

    I'd be blaming RedOne personally….
You've been bitchy and spiteful towards J.LO ever since she started on AI.
    Jealously is an ugly thing.

  40. 40

Either both fucking songs suck!!! I think jlos singing days are over. she just stick to being Marc anthonys bitch!!!! lol KAT de Luna who is that?

  41. 41

They sound the same.. but then again all the songs are starting to sound the same these days.. puke…

  42. 42

NOT AT ALL, J Lo is doing a newer version of the Lambada, not at all like Kat DeLuna's song.

  43. 43

and this years winner of the eurovision song contest goes to…

  44. 44

I think they have many things in common!!

  45. 45

fist off, the melody comes from a very old song… so it can't be copied. and the only thing the same is that they both share the words LA and Africa.

  46. 46

Then both are thieves because that´s a sample from the 80s!!! I used to listen to that song when I was a little girl.

  47. 47

I agree with the people who said it sounds like Lambada by Kaoma. Glad I'm not the only one.

  48. 48

wtf, why would it be j los fault it would be red ones hes the producer!!
its like another kelly clarkson copys beyonce controversy

  49. 49

J.lo's song is a rip of yes, but of the LAMBADA not Kat. Perez im surprised you didn't catch that. This song was very popular in the 80's or early 90's i think. youtube it!!!!

  50. 50

who can really tell? most of this shitty dance music sounds the same anyway.

  51. 51

No, even though there are similarities J.Lo's sounds more like Lambada, famous in the late 80's and early 90's.

  52. 52

both songs sound like crap to me, so what?:-D

and yes, J.Lo's chorus is Kaoma's Lambada!

  53. 53

You've really got it in for J Lo at the moment? You're a douche

When Kelly Clarkson's My December came out, you put it down so badly and everyone I recommended the album too went…"oh she's fat now and that albums supposed to be really crap"…"what where have you heard that?"…"Perez"..blurgh! Be a gossip site and gossip, stop trying to think you're a music mogul, you're better being a tacky journalist talking about nip-slips and such….It's RedOne….his production is always similar =/

  54. 54

    its both really crap..

  55. 55

They also ripped of Edward Maya's Stereo Love in the same track.

  56. 56

J.LO's song may "sound like" Kat Deluna's…..but J.LO's song sound exactly like the artist Kaoma's song LAMBADA! EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen to J.LO's song at the 20 second mark and listen to the LAMBADA song…the tune is EXACT! Someone may want to question why J.Lo sounds like Kaoma!!!!

  57. 57

ever heard the lambada you knob?

  58. 58

The producer should be fired, not the performers. Just like Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce, they probably had NO idea how similar their songs were. Other than that, yeah, it's the same damn song reworded a bit0 like Googling your finally and changing all the verbs.

  59. GG78 says – reply to this

    59

J-Ho is famous for stealing other people's music. She did it to Mariah Carey 11 years ago !

  60. 60

these both sound like a piece of shit

  61. 61

same shit as when beyonce and kelly clarkson did the same song

  62. 62

JLO Ripped of KAT! im tired of Jlo.
Im not fooled by the rocks that shes got.

  63. vony says – reply to this

    63

it sounds similar. I am sure J lo knows but Kat's song was only released in Europe. And Red One does that all the time, he is a piece of shit, he got his start with kat deluna. Whine up by kat deluna sounds the same as Just Dance. he is smart for doing that, use the same style and sound with a lesser known artist and give it back to a bigger artist. Listen to Calling you by kat Deluna and listen to unstoppable. sound alot like poker face and fire burning by sean kingston to me. oh well! kat needs to get away from him

  64. 64

Jlos chorus sounds just like Lambada. I used to love that song until she went and effed it up. Why cant "artists" create new songs and leave originals alone?

RedOne is to blame, but so is Jlo. She IS the singer and she shouldve checked her sh*t before putting it out there.

Bottom line: Jlo just do us, and by us I mean people who can actual hear, a favor and Stop singing. Its so autotune, its not even funny.

  65. 65

QUESTION… IS BEYAAAWNCE'S NAME ANYWHERE IN THE CREDITS?? IF SO, THAT EXPLAINS THE SWAGGER JACKING. NEXT.

  66. 66

Oh my GOD my ears are bleeding. They both suck. They both suck REALLY bad. I guess they do sound similar, but my brain was really trying to block out the SHIT the speakers we blasting at me. Ugh. I don't understand why Jennifer Lopez gets so much attention - she is very pretty, but she can't sing, and she sure as hell can't act…

  67. Jaxmo says – reply to this

    67

2 versions of the same song.. ay yi yi

  68. 68

All I'm hearing is the "sample" (i.e. THEFT) of the riff from the LAMBADA tune. Other than that, I don't think they sound any more alike than the bulk of the crap that is pouring out of the music industry like vomit from a 16 year old punk after a hard night of pub crawling.

  69. 69

two different tracks. although the tempo seems similar… but datz it. if there's a song you should compare, it should be
Katy Perry 'Circle The Drain' and Ysa Ferrer 'Last Zoom'… for example.

  70. 70

They are both in the same key. Similar dance grooves. Melodies, which are what is copyrightable, are not the same. So no… no plagiarism here.

  71. 71

I don't found any similirities in any of those songs besides J.lo is cool I love her…

  72. 72

That's what happens when you work with overrated producers like RedOne

  73. 73

sounds very similar but i think the one that's to blame is RedOne

  74. 74

    umm no

  75. 75

also sounds like "You're my sunshine by Domino Dancing" in some parts of the music… I love it anyways.

  76. 76

    It's TOTALLY "Lambada" by Kaoma

  77. 77

Although I will agree that both songs sound similar, J. Lo's version flows better and just works. The chemistry is there for her and not Kat. So what do you do if you already gave a song to an artist but another comes along and it works better? Why not change it up a little and suck money out of both lol!

  78. vsl83 says – reply to this

    78

So… RedOne's JLo song is similar to RedOne's Kat Deluna song… Wow! How intuitive. This is really stupid.

  79. 79

the only controversy is the mainstream producers recycling their songs.

  80. 80

I don't think JLo is to blame here ! First of all, if RedOne is the producer he should know what is doing and if he can't diversify his work, then it's his fault ! Two : Jennifer's doing a new version of the Lambada. Three : JLo's song is waaaaaaay better than Kat DeLuna's.I don't think it sounds too much a like.

  81. 81

the songs are hardly alike, other than the ibiza africa thing.

  82. 82

how can J.Lo copy her if Lambada theme is 100 years old?? I think Perez Hilton needs some professional help,he should be put into rehab, jail or be killed

  83. 83

This isn't JLo's issue. it's RedOnes. he produced the song and gave it that sound. JLo is totally innocent. You also failed to mention that Kat deLuna released a statement saying "it's an honored that my music inspires other artists, I love Jlo"….again Perez do your research!

  84. 84

I don't think JLo's to blame considering RedOne is in charge of so much of that sound. Seems, to me, that he's the one lacking creative abilities here. It's no different than movie-making - they're all the same nowadays, why shouldn't music all sound the same? People line up for it anyways because they're so pathetic.

  85. 85

Not only are the words similar… The music is taking from someone else too.

Just like her song Jenny From the Block…

It's killing me how I can remember what the song name was… (!!) arg…. Will let you know…

  86. 86

Yes I got it…. this song sounds just like the hit summer song from the 90's La Lambada!!!!!!

  87. 87

JLO totally ripped off the lyrics in the chorus "from ibiza to africa…" whatever she says. Can't remember the lyrics at this moment. They're not the "best" lyrics written", but it's literally the same from word to word. Not a coincidence.

JLO needs to check her songs before releasing it. She has been through this kind of controversy before. You would think she would learn.

  88. adn23 says – reply to this

    88

why are you always bothering J.Lo???? Leave her ALONE!!!

  89. 89

Of course she copied it. She can't sing, why would anyone think she could write?

  90. 90

Re: Fosca – it is the part where they say chorando se foi qeum dia fechorar or how ever it it goes

  91. 91

these suck, just like most of the "dance" songs i hear suck. these sound the same.. as do the rest of the "dance" songs out there.

  92. 92

this sounds like a red one's issues. not either of the singers. just like what happened with beyonce and kelly… and theirs were both by that one republic guy….

  93. 93

J.Lo is a far better music artist than Kat Deluna. Also, what song now-a-days doesn't sound like this or the same as everyone else?

  94. 94

I know where they got the melody from, there is a movie called Lambada, about the forbidden dance and they sing a song about the Lambada in the movie, that is where the melody comes from.

  95. 95

    it is definitely LAMBADA!!!

  96. 96

the songs are actually very different other than that slight similarity of the chorus. but in terms of the singers. please Kat blows that fake-ass (no her ass really is fake lol) out of the water. J-Lo is a no-talent hasbeen. prefer Kat's song though 20 times better.

  97. 97

First of all….Jennifer Lopez is VERY TALENTED. So they gave Jenny the latin Taste of using La LAMBADA beat. SO WHAT? I mean it hasn't been used in over 20 years, so what's the problem? Kat de Luna is Corny, and she will NEVER get paid what Jennifer Does, and Will never get the attention Jennifer Lopez does. Kat needs to stop bitching and realize she's a ONE HIT WONDER while Jennifer has always been NUMBER ONE in Numerous TIMES!

  98. 98

JLO's song is similar only because they worked with the SAME producer. had JLO worked with another producer and made a song inspired by RedOne's sound; she might of accomplished making her mark again.

  99. 99

So NOT a J-Lo fan! And is it me, or does she have the ugliest kids on earth? Bring on your nasty rebuttals, kiddies, I'm from NYC, I can handle them!

  100. 100
