Natalie Portman Producing To Create Better Roles For Women

| Filed under: Film FlickersNatalie Portman

Wowsa! That's amazing!

Natalie Portman is finally tackling a genre she has always avoided - the romantic comedy! In her new film, No Strings Attached, she had found a rom-com that doesn't offend her.

She said:

“I’ve always wanted to do one. But the girls are always in fashion, and it’s always about their clothes. They always want to get married at the end. There’s some kind of makeover scene. That stuff offends me.

[Screenwriter] Liz Meriwether writes women so specifically and smartly. My character is a woman who’s working, who’s trying to create her own construct for relationships, who’s funny herself — and isn’t just the girlfriend of a funny guy."

And Natalie isn't going to stoop!

The actress is developing female friendly comedies through her production company, Handsomecharlie Films. She's producing, Best Buds, a stoner roadtrip comedy, and BYO, which has been described as a female Superbad.

Portman’s producing partner Annette Savitch said:

“Natalie wants to build something that’s different from your usual production company. We want to do movies that are female driven, from a fresher perspective. So if it’s a comedy, it’s not just about women out to find husbands. I think that’s really lacking today.”

Amen! You go, girl.

She is right. I never watch romantic comedies cause all are about falling in love with a guy or about a retarded wedding.

How absolutely wonderful! Helping to bring some integrity and brain power back to American entertainment. It has become so awful and so contrived over the past decade (reality people are STARS - especially the most inane? Madness!). Throw out the superficial Jimmy Choo/spray tan/clothing as a status symbol/consumption and greed are good/self-absorbed mentality. Yucko. We love you Natalie! Not all women want to teeter in Louboutins and become brainless droids. Thank you.

Because a woman finding a decent husband with a brain simply doesn't exist in real life so why waste the public's time on unbelievable garbage anyway. She has a great idea.

Normally I would agree with this whole-heartedly, but I find it soooooo difficult to support her in this when she ALSO SIGNED THAT PETITION IN FAVOR OF ROMAN POLANSKI- WHO RAPED A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL.

Please- don't act like you REALLY care about better film roles for women.

But she's okay with movies that make women look like sex toys? I really dislike her now. She stole a man, got knocked up super quick, and is proving that she isn't the good girl everyone thinks she is. You go girl, go ahead and produce more perverted movies.
